My car got broken into. Thieves not too bright...
You'll get a kick out of this one. Cops called my girlfriend at 2am saying they have reason to believe that her car was broken into. So we rush outside and the cops come(Real quick too, like 1-2 minutes tops, Props to Boston PD) and we look at our cars, windows aren't smashed, seems like everything's there. Cop shows up and says they found some kids with a GPS with our address in it. I look over at my window and notice that in fact my GPS was missing.
Here's the kicker. I have an old, badly beaten Garmin Nuvi 200. With maps so out of date that it's really not too useful anymore. Along side that, I had my 180 dollar Dash cam, 450 dollar Escort 9500ix, a 150 dollar Boluva Watch, about 40 bucks worth of cash, 150 dollar pair of ray bans, and a trunk FULL of tools... and they take the GPS(Without any cables or anything because its hardwired) which is worth probably about 5 dollars on the street, and an empty pack of cigs I had in the glove box. :bonk: Let's clap it up to the street savy kids that stole my stuff. I'm considering myself very lucky to have had such, uhm, intelligent, criminals break into my car. Fortunately(or unfortunately, depends how far they were willing to go) I don't have a smashed window as I accidentally left my car unlocked after bringing the groceries in. Lesson learned. Lock your cars out there everybody. |
Glad everything turned out alright for you. And luckily they didn't damage the car. :D
|
Yep, it sure was your luck day ....

Where in Boston was this?

Great story! You are very lucky!

Lucky. Need to bring valuables in and keep things out of sight

I used to hide everything. It gets annoying though. Usually as soon as criminals see the blue LED from the alarm they don't bother. Why rob my car with an alarm when chances are there's another up the block without one. I just so happen to leave it unlocked so the LED was never on. My fault. |
^ what (LazyZed) he said. Don't keep a pawn shop's display case in your car and maybe next time they move on to the next..

Which dash cam? and are you happy with it?

most thieves that break in to steal something of value will smash your window, grab what they want and be gone in 10 seconds.. just long enough for you to realize your car has been broken into and see nobody in sight by the time you check nobody gives any attention to a car alarm going off in this day and age.. in fact your more likely to annoy the general public with it moral of the story, don't leave anything of value in your car and your windows won't get smashed unless it just happens to be a random act of vanalism |

http://www.chinavasion.com/china/who...VR_Dual_Camera I have that. I like it quite a bit. The quality is not HD but it seems like it should be good enough if I ever need it. The mount that it comes with is... well trash imo. I just took the sticky snaps that come with the EZpass and glued the thing to my windshield. haven't had any problems. I have it hardwired, it turns on and records automatically as soon as I turn my car on. Every once in a while I get a weird "Sensor Error" screen on start up, but a quick restart fixes the issue. Other then that, I have no complaints about it. It does what I need it to, and fortunately I havent had to use it yet. If you would like, Ill go ahead and upload some driving footage to youtube to show you how it looks. Edit: It seems like they have a new HD model. Might be good to look into: http://www.chinavasion.com/china/who...utput_4x_Zoom/ |

If you unlock it and open the door, it shouldn't relock itself. If you unlock it and don't open a door I believe it will relock itself in 45 seconds or so.

Haha kids make the most comical thieves. I have a similar story...
My house got broken into last year. I'm not sure, but I think they may have gone through my kitchen window. Just inside the window is the dining room table, which had a brand new $400 Dewalt drill standing upright on it with the lithium battery in it and charged. Adjacent to that was my refrigerator that had my $380 Shoei RF 1100 helmet on top with a pair of $180 Alpinestars GP Plus gloves inside of it. They walked past all of this and squeezed into the tiny space (about 9") in between my 3 year old, ~8k miles, Yamaha R6S (that had the key in the ignition) and my shelf of video games... so they could steal the video games. At which time they proceeded to steal the video games. I ended up losing about $1,500 worth of electronics including the ridiculous amount of hours I had invested in my saved game files on the 360. It sucked real bad, but taught me some lessons about thieves. I know have a fully setup and monitored home security system. Getting passed all the serious stuff though, how retarded do you have to be to not simply put the helmet on your head to help conceal your identity at the very least? They could have done SOOOO much better than what they did, but I'm thankful they didn't. I can laugh about it now. Kids... |

Sorry this took so long. Had to wait for an adapter to come in from Amazon so I could plug the micro SD card in. But heres 3 videos from my dash cam. One of the videos is muted because apparently listening to Titanium by David Guetta while your dash cam is on can be considered copyright infringement.
Anyway: (Set it to 720p and that's the exact quality that comes out of the camera) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLDSbifoSUA"]Dash Cam 1 - YouTube[/ame] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDAdrbU97GU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfmb13w0v4Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT0m5nAsvJQ As you can see, the quality is not perfect. But I honestly don't think it needs to be. In the last video, you can actually see that as I get close enough to the E350 you can read his plate. So in the event someone backs into me for insurance fraud their plate will be readable from that distance. Overall I'm happy with the camera. It's got GPS so it tracks your speed if you ever want to use it to fight a ticket. It can also point out exactly where you are in the video using the GPS when you pull the videos up with the program they include. Starts recording as soon as it turns on, so if you hardwire it like I did you never have to worry about it. Overall, I'm happy with it. |
