I was able to change my pre-order.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say I was able to change my pre-order (March 6th is when I pre-ordered). I am second in line at a dealership in northeast Ohio. I originally ordered the premium WR-Blue BRZ. Once pricing came out I decided 2k extra for limited was def worth it. I called in today and was able to change my order to limited because Subaru hasn't built the vehicle yet. There were no pre-orders placed after mine so only two pre-orders have been made at that dealership. I'm not sure if this allowed my order to be altered without me losing my place. I just wanted to share this with some of the members and see if anyone else has tried to change their order once pricing was released.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to do the same, but there are 10 people lined up at my dealership and I was first in line.

If I changed my order to a premium I would have gone to the back of the line.

If you were #2 of 2, you didn't have a place in line to keep really. I assume that would mean anyone in a similar situation could change their order, but it likely wouldn't help someone that's ahead of several orders.

The dealer made it clear that they would still expect to see the vehicle around late May/early June even though my order was changed.

Correct. They fill them out by allocation to the dealer, when the pre order was placed compared to other dealers pre orders doesn't matter.

Do you know if the pre-orders arrive to each dealership one at a time, or is it a "batch" thing where multiple cars arrive at once?

They will be delivered prorata over the 7 months. I'm not sure how many truck loads a dealer normally gets a month, but if they get 14 cars over the first 7 months they'll get 2 per month, which I'd assume would just come together but it's possible they'd come in different loads. Not sure specifically how that will work though.

Cascade Subaru in Cuyahoga Falls. They are getting 5-6 vehicles this year and only 2 pre-orders have been made.

Hmm... that would be an issue for me, then. I was told in March that I'd "probably" be getting my car in late May or June, but considering I'm somewhere around #9 on the list (my salesman didn't make it clear) then I might not get my car until July or later, depending on how many cars per month. I'm relocating from Texas to California in July...

We need more definitive information on expected arrival date. Hopefully by the end of this month.

How many cars are they allocated? What I described is directly from Subaru to the dealers.

I changed my order from WRB to SSM and removed that autodim. The GM told me it wont affect my order or when I will get it unless they take more orders than their given allocation

My dealer (in SONE, not SOA) said that they should have detailed allocation information by the end of this week. Then we'll know exactly which cars (trim/trans) they're getting and, hopefully, in what order.

I don't think that is accurate. I spoke with them just after the allotment notices went out and I was told they were getting 2 cars for the May-Nov time period.

I was first in line there originally, but when I found out that VIP wouldn't be accepted I cancelled my order and got my deposit back. I wound up at Brunswick (#1 in line again) where they promised me VIP pricing regardless of what Subaru did.. so I got invoice after-all.

OrbitalEllipses 04-10-2012 02:56 PM

VIP is UNDER invoice. Getting the car at invoice is nothing special beyond some negotiation.

VIP is invoice for 95% of those who qualify. There is one partner program that I'm aware of that gets the VIP+ that gets you 2% under invoice. That an actual direct employees. Most everyone else (including supplier companies like the one I work for) get the standard VIP, which is invoice.

If you think getting invoice on the BRZ is nothing special, then I encourage you to go for it. As far as I know, I'm one of just 4 people who've been fortunate enough to do so.

When did you cancel because if this is true that mean I could possibly be number 1!?!? :) Also Chris the guy that does online orders told me when I met him that they were getting 5. So I guess we'll see when the times comes.

;) Already got it. It would be ridiculous to assume only 4 people in the entire country got invoice pricing. FYI, 4 people, including myself, received invoice pricing at my dealership.

I said "as far as I know" only 4 people.. My memory was that there was one dealer out on the east coast who had done invoice for 3 people prior to learning allocation numbers. I stand corrected.. you were one of 4, which would make me 5. There certainly could be others, so I didn't say there were absolutely only 4 people.. just as far as I knew..

I cancelled just before March 1st.. which is when the sales would have been entered as official orders. I worked with Pat Primm who was the dealer brand manager. He was very nice and I thought they were a classy dealership. But, clearly I got lucky with the other dealer and had to jump on that opportunity.

Ok that means I am still 2nd and they are probably getting 5 I am assuming since they might have received updated information since March 1st. But thats awesome you are gonna be one of the first people in Ohio with a BRZ. Jelly!

Does this mean they could give you a closer expected date of delivery for your car? I've got my order with Cityside and they're tight lipped about when they'll be getting any information like this.

That's the impression they've given me, but they've been careful to not come out and say it. I can see two scenarios:
1. They get a list of 25 specific vehicles without the order in which they'll arrive. Then I know which cars are in the allocation that match my preferences, but I don't know when exactly those few cars will arrive. So I wait some more to hear when one is actually on its way to the dealership, and then I can decide whether I want to take it.
2. They get a list of 25 specific vehicles with the order of arrival. So they know that their first monthly batch will contain these three cars, then the second month another three, etc. I'd then be able to choose which car I want based on color and when it arrives, and the only thing left uncertain would be exactly when it arrives during the month.

I honestly don't know which of these is closest to correct, and Patrick Subaru doesn't seem to know either. #2 makes more sense to me, but that may be why it's wrong. All they'll say for sure is that they'll get their annual allocation details later this week.

The sales rep told me 10 cars total, and when I pre-ordered he claimed there were 2 spots left, meaning I'm #9 I guess. But this list shows that Gillman Subaru North has only been allotted 9 cars, so who the hell knows?

If your dealer finds out this week, I assume all the dealerships will find out pretty soon. Fingers are crossed. If I can't get this car by end of June then it's game over... I'd probably have to settle for a GTI or something similar. Manual trans, backseat, decently sized trunk, good fuel economy all required. But I don't even want to think about any alternatives... must... have... BRZ!

Cool, thanks for the information. All I know through Cityside is that my order is made and that I'll get the car at some point, hopefully they'll share what they learn their detailed allocation.
