Is your car fast?

So, for the last 4 months since I have owned this car I have been asked this question a lot by random people. Is your car fast? Or what's the fastest you have been in this car?
How often you you guys asked this question and what is your response?

86_ZN6 10-06-2013 09:01 PM

"Im fast on corners"

alan.chalkley 10-06-2013 09:06 PM

I just say that it drives like a go kart.
According to my (camry driver) mrs it goes way too fast and she lectures me on the benefits of slow driving.

thill 10-06-2013 09:07 PM

I just say it is fast enough to get me in trouble...

chickdigger802 10-06-2013 09:16 PM

its faster than my ~100hp prizm.

all that matters for me!

I say the same thing.

There are benefits? Is it worth the boredom?

muffinz 10-06-2013 09:39 PM

A car is only as fast as its driver

Dipstik-sportech 10-06-2013 09:40 PM

Nope. Slower than my mini bike

ZionsWrath 10-06-2013 09:43 PM

Just say no and leave it at that. If they are asking that question it's not worth the explanation.

I'd agree with this. You can have a fast car but if the driver doesn't know how to handle it the power is worthless.

I tell themit holds its own.

I had a Lancer Ralliart driver approach me at a gas station the other day who asked me a slew of questions.

Thing thing looks expensive - how much was it?

It looks great - how fast does it go?

Are those wheels the OEM wheels?

I replied with: your car is more expensive, faster, and no those are aftermarket wheels.

Chee-Hu 10-06-2013 10:47 PM

Sadly, I've near Berne asked this question. Although I've been told stuff like, "it looks fast, etc."

Kwisak 10-06-2013 10:52 PM

Normally I get, is it as fun as it looks, which I answer yes to. But when people ask me is it fast I just say yes and move on. My general view is anything under 7 secs 0-60 is fast. Although there are different report I see 6.2 for Mt more often.

ZionsWrath 10-06-2013 10:52 PM

If I end up with a turbo, I'm still going to tell people its slow. And tell them its stock too

soundman98 10-07-2013 12:20 AM

it's faster than walking.

Khazzy 10-07-2013 12:23 AM

I get asked it all of the time. My response, "It is not fast, but it is quick."

"insert dirty joke here"

Off topic, lady at the gas station thought it was some new GTR. I laughed and said to her I had not heard that one yet. Picking ladies up at the gas station. Classy

ashtray 10-07-2013 12:32 AM

"It's pretty quick - carves through corners real quick."

Honestly - drive it like you stole it, you can maintain momentum through corners and have higher corner exit speeds than some more powerful cars - so you end up quicker/higher speed down the straights. And then the light weight allows later braking and again higher cornering speeds, so as long as you learn to preserve that momentum, the car has some guts. Just keep the engine on boil...

kakarot1657 10-07-2013 12:34 AM

It's not how fast it is it's how you use it... a thank you :party0030:

shiumai 10-07-2013 12:34 AM

sometimes i wonder if the people asking know about it already, and are just wondering what my answer is going to be, or are sincerely curious.

BlueDubbinTDI 10-07-2013 12:36 AM

Its my second fastest car, behind my 304whp mk4 Jetta. Ok lets just say way behind that car lol. But yeah I just say it drives as well as cars ten times its price...and technically I'm not too far off.

hotpanda1 10-07-2013 12:39 AM

slowest car i have owned!!, but i have more fun in it then my other cars

mike the snake 10-07-2013 12:41 AM

Mine's going to be fast in a couple weeks when I get my turbo kit and methanol injection. Should end up faster than my old BMW 135i.

Hanni_0176 10-07-2013 12:49 AM

It's not the size of of the horsepower that counts, but the motion during cornering.

Kostamojen 10-07-2013 02:11 AM

I just say yes.

Gaiakai 10-07-2013 02:16 AM

What I've found personally is that when I say "No." and smile, they take it as a "yes" anyway :bonk:

1slowbrz 10-07-2013 02:19 AM

I got sick of being asked,so I put a turbo kit on it. I still say no.

LeeMaster 10-07-2013 02:31 AM

I told them I beat a Vette at an autocross event, no brag intended.

Most people don't. They are just making small talk. Easy to just say 'reasonably fast' and move on.

If someone driving a GT 500 or a Corvette asks you if it fast, say 'not as quick as yours' and move on. I have a feeling that is what they want to hear.

I've only gotten The Question from non-car people. My parents, of course, imagine I am going to hit escape velocity and burn up on re-entry.

Anyone who asks you that question obviously knows little about cars and has little perspective about a fast car, so say "yes".

zc06_kisstherain 10-07-2013 11:24 AM

When people ask me that how fast?
i said, very slow. lol
yeah 2nd slowest car i ever owned.

thill 10-07-2013 11:25 AM

I will say that it was about 45 degrees this morning and my car was peppy as hell. Throttle response was better than usual and it felt like the car gained 20hp.

In know in Dezoris's dyno runs you could tell the ECU was really picky about temperature. Definitely noticing it today. Looks like this car loves the cold :)

Ganthrithor 10-07-2013 11:40 AM

I usually tell people it's not that fast and that it only makes ~200hp. Then they tell me I should have bought a Charger or a Camaro "for the same money." Then I till them it handles really well. Then they look puzzled.

I am really enjoying my car: it goes about as fast as I would want it to go, but only when you're really pushing the car pretty hard. It's perfect for the road.

Mustang driver at walmart:

Him: looks sleek, would it beat my stang? ( he actually said stang!)

Me (without hesitation): around a track, yup.

Not unless he's got the absolute base model mustang it wouldn't. A Mustang GT with the Track Pack would absolutely destroy a FR-S/BRZ around the track, and even a V-6 with the Performance Package would probably do the same (with a good driver). That's not really the point of this car though.

Did I specify how many corners this track had? ;)
