SWP headlight housings blacked out, please post pics if did it!

Trying to decide if this is a project to do this winter while my car is parked. Can't locate any good pics of the headlight housings being black on a SWP fr-s or BRZ.

If anyone has done this please post pics I'd love to see what it looks like!

Please no. You are gonna ruin the look. Wait for SEMA, there will be more aftermarket headlights announced soon.

How to determine would ruin look without seeing it? What exactly is coming out at sema, care to share?

Ghost 86 10-05-2013 12:41 AM

I'm planning on doing this soon. I don't think it will ruin the look. And most aftermarket ones with halos and other crazy lights will ruin the look. But everybody is into their own thing who am I to judge if the other guy wants under glows cause they were featured at sema.

OICU812 10-05-2013 12:55 AM

Ok cool please post. I think should look good to but do want to see it. I'm not a huge halo etc fan either.

Two examples in the first post. Prob more in the following pages as people usually post results.

Im doing it to my car as have countless others to not only this car but many cars. Its a nice, cheap mod that really changes the looks for sure.

OICU812 10-05-2013 01:40 AM

Ya seen that thread but seems majority doing it on asphalt or black.

Mrazn 10-05-2013 01:47 AM

I just blacked out the housings and retrofitted the projectors yesterday. I'll try to get some pictures for you.

kmbkk 10-05-2013 02:08 AM

Damn....I must have ruined my car ;) I get nothing but compliments on mine. It actually saved me the money I was about to blow on BRZ lights. Total cost was 5 hours or so, and $6 for paint.

JustBoostin 10-06-2013 04:39 PM

I'm stoked to see it on your car @OICU812! Just let me know when! Lol

slicktop 10-06-2013 05:25 PM

Just did mine last night. Definitely a recommended cheap mod for aggressive looks if you have access to the required tools (namely, an oven).

Be careful on the high beam inserts if you decide to do those as well. Either prep the area or don't do many coats. I had to redo my inserts because the paint peeled. Went to a higher temp paint and added a primer base coat that gave it a wrinkle look. I'll get pics up soon.

output has diminished ever so slightly. I've had this on the car since June of last year...my car was actually the test model for lamin-x.

Tint is not the way to go, another downside is that as the film and the headlight expand/contract due to temperature they are doing so at different rates and the headlights will begin to crack over long periods of time

OICU812 11-17-2013 05:38 PM

What paints should be voided and what's best? Krylon plastic type paint I suspect best, and are you guys prepping surface by sanding or just giving them a wipe with alcohol?
Don't want to have peeling etc from the heat..

SkAsphalt 11-26-2013 11:38 AM

Minovsky 11-27-2013 03:35 AM
