another texas front LP thread...

I'm curious, with the law changing last month (you now get a $200 ticket for no front LP) how many of you who previously did not have one, put it on? I've been meaning to order the Grimmspeed relocation kit, just haven't gotten around to it.

edj 10-04-2013 01:09 PM

i did. i've already been pulled over for no front plate a couple of times and
i figured the troopers would now be more than happy to write me a $200
ticket after finding nothing else to charge me. especially after not being
able to do anything the last two years...

i may take it off in a few months once the novelty dies down. ;)

FR-S Matt 10-04-2013 01:11 PM

Still haven't been pulled over, still don't plan on changing it.

Maybe Austin cops don't care? I've noticed most 86s I see around town don't have a front Lp....

Ramster 10-04-2013 01:22 PM

Perrin relocation kit for me. Didn't have one on previously.

Been driving around 6 years in Austin in a bright red 2002 Camaro SS with no front LP and my Ultramarine now for a year with no LP, still nothing. If anything, I get stared at like, "What is that???" Even cops at the car show in Leander go by it and don't say a thing.

Now, I did get pulled over in DF/W for no front LP when I was 17. They're a little more strict up there.

Foxman13 10-04-2013 01:43 PM

I got a speeding ticket in Irving two weeks ago and no mention of the front LP missing. I think most of them don't really care, but I'm sure it differs from cop-to-cop.

ziptiedae86 10-04-2013 01:50 PM

Running zipties until my tow hook relocation kit arrives from the $40 Massdrop groupbuy

JonAvalon 10-04-2013 02:43 PM

Meh i picked up the Grimmspeed kit before i got the car. I didn't want to even bother risking driving w/o the front plate.......even though most cops around here don't care.

Same here.

FR-S Matt 10-04-2013 02:51 PM

Honestly, I think state troopers are the ones that are the picky ones. I got pulled over 3 times in one trip from Dallas to Lubbock in my white Firebird Formula. I had to tell one cop his buddy already gave me the warning, then the same story to a THIRD cop. Yeah, needless to say I got a front license plate that time. They were out to get college kids on that road though.

Alexm_09 10-04-2013 06:09 PM

i still don't have a front license plate on my car after 6 months owning it and never been pulled over. within the last 2 weeks i've been pulled over 3 times for no LP but been given warnings all 3 times.

jdubious 10-04-2013 09:05 PM

no front plate...tossing around ideas. most of which at this point i do not care for:/

h4nh 10-04-2013 11:40 PM

the law says you only need it on a public highway :)

Dustin 10-05-2013 10:05 PM

Only reason I put mine on is because the f*cking dealer I bought my car from drilled into the front bumper. One day I'll replace it and get a relocation kit. But my past 3 or 4 cars never had a front lp and I've never been asked or harassed about it.

alex_86 10-05-2013 10:08 PM

no plate before, no plate after!:party0030:

marcosowns 10-09-2013 04:56 PM

Just as an fyi, we're trying to get another group buy going for the $40 license plate tow hook relocation kit.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46627

Just click on Massdrop's link and request on that page.

FR-S Matt 10-09-2013 05:08 PM

I got pulled over for no inspection sticker on my car since Round Rock Toyota didn't include one when I bought it. Not a single warning about a front license plate. I'll keep my front clean and not add that ugly crap.

marcosowns 10-10-2013 09:25 AM

I completely agree it's ugly crap... but I've been pulled over 4 times in the span of several years for no front plates. Never gotten a ticket, but not really worth the nuisance either. FWIW, it's only been in rural areas either by DPS or the local sheriff.

tennisfreak 10-10-2013 11:27 AM

No front plates for me still.

Have yet to be pulled over in either of my vehicles.

Crossover Auto 10-10-2013 11:37 PM

I have a handful of the Perrin towhook plate holder. I'm in DFW for local pickup and can ship as well.

Alexm_09 10-11-2013 02:53 AM

so i think i jinxed myself, i got a ticket today for no front license plate. the cop was a douche..now i need to actually buy relocation kit, fuck

tuckdaddy 10-11-2013 03:06 AM

Hadn't been harassed or stopped for it, don't plan on putting it on.

Yellow13 10-11-2013 04:57 AM

I am sure I could find it but I figured I would just ask here. Do you guys know of a kit (not the grimspeed) that would allow me to mount my license plate directly onto my tow hook? I have my hook torqued down and it would just be helpful if I could pop my plate in and out of the hooks hole so I do not have to keep popping out my hook and popping in the LP relocation kit.

I also would prefer not to zip tie because that means every time I remove it, I would have to rezip it up again.

Any thoughts? Maybe I could build one using some brackets that secure on the other side of the hook.

Well the Raceseng Kit is a bit pricey, it would do close to what you want. Except you just have remove the plate holder for the tow hook. So you still have to do some unscrewing.
http://ft86speedfactory.com/raceseng...ount-1068.html

You can swap it with their tow hooks that you can buy separately.
http://www.raceseng.com/tug-tow-hook

Otherwise if you can put something together i'd love to see what you come up with.

marcosowns 10-12-2013 06:54 PM

So we got the group buy going again for the $40 front plate tow hook relocation kit. In light of this law change it might be worth investing in this. We need 13 more guys to get the group buy officially going.

Is it a "fix-it" ticket? Or do you have to pay the fine regardless of fixing it?

Its an actual ticket. called court and it is a 200$ fine. My girlfriend works for a law firm and she told me to fix it asap and try to get ticket removed by showing pic and proof of kit purchased. Funny thing is I had already purchased the grimmspeed kit on amazon and had the receipt with me at time i got pulled over showing i was just waiting on the kit. i showed this to the cop and he just laughed and told me to sign on the X. He was a douche. Il let you guys know how it goes in case anyone needs more encouragement to buy a kit asap.

It's still active on their website. I'm guessing massdrop must have violated some vendor rules for these forums. I asked on their website discussion thread, but no response. I guess we'll see what happens..

Alexm_09 10-22-2013 05:28 PM

For the curious, went up to court today and got ticket for no front license plate dismissed. :-)

Here is what I have "heard" you can do.

1. Ziptie said license plate to front bumper.
2. Take picture of license plate on front.
3. Get ticket dismissed and win
4. Cut license plate off of front bumper after it is dismissed
5. Profit
