Waze phone app, everyone should use this

Anyone else use the Waze phone app? It's pretty cool for finding friends and people under certain groups. I made an FR-S/BRZ group, if people joined we could see where everyone's driving around.

Sounds stalker-ish, but it's actually pretty cool, would be fun when everyone's at an event like the FT-86 bash!

Makes me think of Need for Speed or something. You can always see where people are and you could find people to RACE ... I do not condone illegal racing >.>

FR-S Matt 10-02-2013 05:03 PM

I have the app but I have never used it yet. Just read fun stuff about it.

Cross 10-02-2013 06:07 PM

Hmm I will look into it.

Tillman32 10-02-2013 07:20 PM

This just saved me from a speeding ticket! :)

I was about to pass someone on the 202, and as soon as I downshifted, it told me there was a cop up ahead. Sure enough, there was the highway patrol right up the road.

Put your right hand up and swear. Downloading as we speak.

Tillman32 10-02-2013 08:03 PM

I swear!

It's only because another user reported it, I'd imagine there are a lot of people using it in Dallas like there is here in Phoenix, so you should be good.

Just downloaded and its pretty legit. Thanks.

RRnold 10-02-2013 08:34 PM

It's very useful on road trips.

Semprini 10-02-2013 08:59 PM

I've been using it for several years now. In the ATX area it's pretty widely used and 80% of reported hazards are accurate (the ones that are not, the broken car has been towed or the LEO has moved on). Highly recommended.

spyingwind 10-02-2013 09:43 PM

There is an "FT86 Dallas Club" group for well... Dallas.

I was hesitant. I am now going to download it. Thanks for the testimony

Moetivegt86 10-02-2013 11:33 PM

Downloaded

Jstunna 10-02-2013 11:59 PM

i also downloaded it, seems pretty cool! thanks!

Dustin 10-03-2013 12:00 AM

i've been using it for about a year now. It's also good, not all the time but a few times, about diverting you around bad traffic.

Techfl3x 10-03-2013 12:42 AM

I use it. It's fun and allows u to report the speed traps we all hate.

pleong 10-03-2013 01:05 AM

I use this too. Google just bought them out.. Will probably integrate to google maps soon

JDMwhiteboy 10-03-2013 09:37 AM

And I hate windows phone aftermarket... -____-

nalc 10-03-2013 09:44 AM

I use it, fairly happy with the reports. Don't care about finding other drivers, and I'm less than thrilled with the navigation. It usually fails to re-route me when there are delays ahead, and there's no way to add waypoints, so it doesn't really help me, since I have specific routes I like to take with specific detours I can use. That and I like to minimize tolls, which there doesn't seem to be a good logic for, in any GPS. It's either tell the navigation no tolls and the drive takes two hours longer, or I tell it tolls are OK and it ignores them. Too bad there's no threshold for that. I'll pay a $5 bridge toll to get across the Hudson river when the closest free crossing is 75 miles, but I'd rather not pay a $8 highway toll when there's a free highway next to it that takes 3 minutes longer.

This is what I'm hoping. I'd love to see it built on, like I'm about to explain.

I used to use Waze and I like the features. The one thing I don't like is that it promotes distracted driving to a degree. Driving becomes a game, and I can see people wanting to report everything so they can get more points.

If it was all reported with a single button press, and then via voice command, that's fine. But on my iPhone 4 I had to go through a couple of menus to properly report stuff, and I'm just not comfortable taking my eyes off of the road for that long to do it.

If it already does this because of an update, someone correct me. I'd like to give it a shot again.

I have been running this for maybe a month, and I like it. It learns your routes, which is part of the reason you may not always be routed around traffic. There has been 1-2 times where the app has asked me if I want to detour because of traffic ahead. Then again, I live in Cleveland, so traffic isn't exactly our #1 concern here. Speed trap reporting is fantastic.

As for distracted driving, I don't think its any worse than normal. The interface is good for driving--large buttons--and as soon as you hit the report button, it saves that location until you finish the report, or you hit the "report later" button if you want to wait until you are stopped. I've found I am actually paying more attention to the road around me, to note hazards and other notifications.

Now if I can only figure out the voice commands...some "Easter eggs" are only available through that method. ;)

On my iPhone5, the app learns the routes I like to take to get to work for example. Once it learns, it navigates me through my back roads and shortcuts.

If you just select report, and pick what it was ( a hazard, cop, etc ) it will save where you were and what it was. That way when you're done driving, you can fill in the details. Notice the little countdown next to the "Later" button once selecting report.

Yeah, that's what I did. I just don't like messing with my phone while driving unless I have to.

Moetivegt86 10-08-2013 04:31 PM

Bump! Everybody should use this! Especially in route to meets.

Xlr8 10-15-2013 02:54 AM

I like the app. I like to check traffic and for cops on my route before I set out. It's saved me from two major back-ups on trips although I had to reroute myself. But it's better than sitting in a backup for 45min to 1 hr. due to an earlier accident.

feedbag 10-15-2013 10:18 AM

I do, I'm on there as grey_brz.

edit: joined the FT86 Dallas group

While useful, they have to be reported...so it depends how many Wazers are in the area ;)

Fett4Real 12-02-2013 10:57 AM

Use is and theres about 120 wazers in the imediate area normally, they report traffic/cops etc. Great app, and the nzvi seems to work better then google maps as far as getting you there faster and better routes

Thats not a bad number, my commute is fairly well traveled, I probably end up seeing about 2/3 of the hazards/cops that occur, and I report the rest ;)

Also, I thought Google was purchasing Waze? Hopefully the two will start using the same maps, because google's traffic reporting is way better, but the other road hazards that Waze covers is invaluable.

Fett4Real 12-02-2013 01:08 PM

for sure, in hawaii googles traffic reporting saved me from an hour of traffic. But it seemed like in SLC google sent me out of the way where waze put me on the most direct route.

Do you mean the layout, or the App icon? It looks like a little ghost.

jaime3 12-02-2013 02:44 PM

the icon, but the layout would be helpful to know just so i dont download the wrong one

If you enter "Waze" in App Store or Google Play, it will be one of the first to come up. The icon looks like a little speech bubble with wheels and a smiley face, or a little smiley ghost, depending on how you view it. Also look for the number of downloads. The correct one will have many many more downloads.

Downloaded.
