Beginner STX Build Whiteout FRS Build Thread

Hi, I just started getting into autocross and im hooked! , was very confused on what to build my frs into and I think an autocross car would be perfect for it. https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...31076596_n.jpg
here's what the car looked like when I first Got it

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...49659108_n.jpg
Blox Racing 490 Shift knob, lovng the weighted shift knob :)

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...23009433_n.jpg

next was the eibach lowering springs, loved the drop but the more I autocross the more I want to get some true coilovers, hopefully getting a feal 441 soon for the car :)

https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...57711411_n.jpg
245/40 kumho ecsta 4x

I went with the all season ultra high performance tires as of now, since i do have heavy snow here at Purdue University I want some tires that'l let me drive all year long. I will however get some summer tires after winter ends for next years season. and save these tires for the upcoming winter.

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...35550699_n.jpg
got some enkei rpf1 in limited edition matte bronze color 17x9 +35

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...67100709_n.jpg

https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...73935908_n.jpg

installed some SPC camber bolts since the rear waas at -2.5 camber after the drop while front stayed at -0.3 camber, the camber bolts should being tthe front to around -2 camber now

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...01627951_o.jpg

Got the painted red taillights from a fellow forum member, looks perfect imo should have came this way from factory.

oh and I am also a new member here! go easy on me.

I know that driver skill is 75% of autocross, but what mods do you guys think I should go next? was thinking of a strano front swaybar, then feal 441 coilovers then some BFG Rivals.
Hope to get some real good advice from the more experienced drivers here in the forum :)

Autocross is great fun. You should check the rules to see where you car is in classing with your current mods:

since I do have lowering springs, wider wheels and tires, ive been running in stx lately, and have been getting beaten pretty hard in that class :) but i do plan to stay in that class, and I have seen my times slowly getting closer to the usual guys in my class in my last two autocross's. so hopefully I can get around 4 more events before the season ends this year to improve even more.

It's good to hear you're enjoying autox. It sounds like you're going down the right path. Have you looked at some of the STX build threads here?

Welcome to the party! :)
My advice would be to sort out all your suspension and get tires, after that worry about power and weight reduction. Alignment is very important on these cars. Since I didn't have rear camber arms I used ride height to set rear camber and adjusted the front height accordingly. Good luck, there are plenty of people here willing to help. Also, do some reading around on tires. The RS3's and Z2's are also good tires depending on surface and temperatures.

Where did you buy the rpf1 in that size/color?

Hachi86Roku 10-01-2013 10:45 AM

thanks!, you guys are like those autox people, im always amazed how they're so friendly and always be willing to help out a newbie, cant say the same about the track day people ive been to.

still debating about tires, still a long way till I get them, and there is so much new realeases this year that Hopefully reviews come out by next season, or till some people in my local scca get some and have things to say about it. the new generation of autox tires are so confusing for me (Z2, RIVAL, RE-11A.etc)

powfrs 10-01-2013 02:14 PM

looking good man! good luck with the autox!

Berk Single Tip Muffler Delete came today!, bought it off a fellow forum member

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...05132877_o.jpg

The hangers were the worst part of taking off the stock muffler!.
I drove it up a ramp to get easier access to the muffler.

Review:
I am 100% happy with this purchase, it saved 23 lbs of weight off the back of the car and it sounds amazing. It is a little too loud for my taste at cold start but after that it is very bearable. In terms of drone, there is drone at lower rpm (2000-3000) but after that there is no drone, so at highway speeds at 75mph there is no drone. The look of the car was what I worried about a but when you look at the car it looks really nice, the single exit doesnt bother me as much as i thought it would and the larger tip is a vast improvement from stock.

Welcome to the Club! Enjoy your stay :w00t:

What region of Indiana are you in? I highly suggest making it out to Grissom AFB in Peru, IN if you have not been there before, they put on some great events. I am hoping I will make it to atleast one of the Divisional events there next season.

Nice build!

Seat time seat time seat time! Best gains come from experience.

And a good alignment. :)

Yup! thats my favourite place haha, been there twice.

2 weeks ago I got over 20+ runs there because we finished really early and only had 30 people, so it was fun runs over and over again, learnt a lot there.

Hey! I run STX on 255/35-18 Michelin PSS every now and then. My alignment specs are at -2 deg front and -2.8 rear. I don't have rear LCA yet, but when I get them I'll probably change the specs to -2.5ish F and -2 R. Should be a nice compromise, I daily drive about 50 miles a day on these specs and I'm reasonably competitive.

Aznsky 10-19-2013 11:11 PM

Boiler up! Recognize that parking structure :)

Hachi86Roku 10-29-2013 01:35 AM

Finally got some proper Coilovers and Lower control arms on, got a great deal on a set of Feal 441 Coilovers

Heres how it sits after the alignment, I think its a bit too low in the rear but Id adjust that another time.

Track day PREP!

I got a bunch of goodies for a track day last weekend but I didnt have time to install all of it before the day, I got

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...96320818_o.jpg

-3 Bottles of Motul RBF600 Fluid
- Stainless steel lines
- Hawk HP+ front Pads
- HPS rear pads
- Grimspeed Master Cylinder Brace
- Schroth Rallye 3 harness.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...72577808_o.jpg

I only got to install the pads before the track day, BUT im glad i didnt cook the brake fluid, it wouldve sucked to cut my day short for that.

I am glad I switched the pads, they were awesome on track and the coilovers felt flat through corners, I am impressed though on how well my all-season Kumho Ecsta 4x tires held up, although they were roughed up a bit, but they stuck pretty decent for all seasons.

It was at putnam park and It was my first time at the track (So I'm still very noob),
Best Lap times
Day 1- 1:29.5
Day 2 - 1:28.0

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...34478273_o.jpg

heres what the front tire looks like, it has less than 2000 miles on them

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...36549443_o.jpg

Post track wash
Brake dust was really bad for the hp+, I will be running them on the streets for a week or so and if it still dusts really bad I will switch them out for street and just save it for autocrosses or track time :)

Overall, track was an AWESOME experience and I learnt a lot, its always satisfying to see yourself improving, Putnam had so much run off area I felt safe ( I did spin off at turn 1, and had no problems at all). Highly reccomended for first timers.

I ran with 1010th Motorsport and they were VERY organized and I was impressed, there was an oil spill mixup on sunday and they managed to reschedule quickly and gave everyone good seat time.

I didnt realize there was a "build thread" section on this forum, how do I move this thing there?

I would not worry about it unless it bothers you. It seems like most people who are doing SCCA or tack builds have their build threads here and not in that forum.

Fitment

Hello I was looking into getting some Enkei RPF1 in 17x9 +35 with 245/40-17. I am also looking into getting -1.5 camber up front to hide the poke, and -1.00 camber in the rears. However, I am currently running white line camber bolts up front, SPC LCA in the rear, and Eibach Sportline Springs. I noticed in the forums that you were running a similar set-up, and I wanted to know if you have any issues on rubbing? Also, if I decided to go with 17x9 +45 would it rub? Thank you!!!
