Look at this dealer option exhaust

May be old news but I was looking at a couple new cars that just came in on the lot and saw this:

vividracing 09-27-2013 08:28 PM

Borla nice, but i'd still like to have other options.

Tromatic 09-27-2013 08:34 PM

I didn't see a deduction for that stupid "wing".

Gaiseric 09-27-2013 08:36 PM

Rear spoiler 499

mush 09-27-2013 09:06 PM

It looks good. Wonder how it sounds

Calavera 09-27-2013 09:16 PM

My car had the Borla before I bought it. The sound was louder than the TRD that i have now. Not richer just little annoying louder for my taste. Still made the car feel more sporty.

Wes 09-27-2013 09:21 PM

It says catback, but I believe it's just axel back.

I have that borla on my frs. It's only axle back but it sounds decent. I thought it was a cat back when I bought the car, if I would have known it wasn't I would have asked them to delete the option off the car and I would have just spent the same amount on an actual cat back. All in all it does sound good for an exhaust from the factory.

twag4 09-27-2013 10:12 PM

That wing is the 2014 spoiler, also found on some 10 series cars. There are a few pictures of the 2014 cars that have come in and these spoilers were port installed. Borla only makes a cat back according to their site. The muffler is located under the middle of the car, unless this is locally fabricated.

TaddyDobbins 09-27-2013 10:35 PM

I have the same axle back exhaust. My FRS was an impulse buy and since I am not ready to modify anything yet it a nice little touch to make mine a bit different.

That wing was a dealer option for many '13 owners. It's not just a '14 or 10 series wing.

This, I have the spoiler on my 13:thanks:

Clembo 09-28-2013 06:36 AM

Under standard equipment it states "FULL TANK OF GAS". So where do they put the 6 gallons of gas shown in the distributor's options list? I'd bring an empty gas can with me to be sure I got it before taking delivery. :)

DarkSunrise 09-28-2013 08:26 AM

The Borla looks nice, but I generally hate crappy dealer add-ons.

meadowz06 09-28-2013 09:28 AM

The exhaust is a southeast toyota option, installed at port!

ZionsWrath 09-28-2013 09:30 AM

Honestly I would take it back and tell them to give you the missing pipes from the borla cat back if they only put axle back. That is really shady of them to do that.

tjohnson104 09-28-2013 10:44 AM

I was having my brz serviced and I looked the cars there.... and there adding MGP caliper covers on all brz.... its a 600 add on, and after looking it up there only 200 to buy lol

I agree with this. The sticker said catback, that is what they should have sold you.

In the S.E.T. southeast Toyota area they do install a Borla catback exhaust on the FR-S at port Look at this link.;)

KoralKrab125 09-28-2013 01:44 PM

That is the aftermarket borla system. Not the system that dealers install, which is actually axle back, unless the terrible looking factory mid pipe on my car is from borla, which I highly doubt

Well it comes from Southeast Toyota buddy and TRDSparks just resells them to customers that want this exhaust.;)

Look at the name on this building in the photo I know what I'm talking about....

That is not the Borla exhaust that the Southeast Toyota dealers sell in GA (source: my car). Mine has the dealer installed Borla "cat-back" system. I had them put it up on a lift about a month after I bought it to see if the mid-pipe was actually Borla or not (see if I could legitimately raise hell about them selling an axle-back system as a cat-back). Nothing conclusive though since the mid-pipe does look different from the pipe forward of the cat. No Borla labels either though. But the system installed is like the factory one in that the muffler is a big box at the back of the car.

KoralKrab125 09-28-2013 04:14 PM

What he said above. I have the exact same dealer installed "borla cat back" on my car from Florida and it has the muffler in the stock configuration.

OK then I'm stupid because 3 FR-S's came from port with the one I posted installed on them.;)

I guess your dealership is a better one then. I'm not saying I don't believe you, just that the dealers in the Atlanta area are not putting that Borla set-up in the FRS's down here. I could take pictures if you'd like.

I really wish I got the full-blown Borla cat-back set-up (like your dealership does). That is what I thought I was paying for when I bought the car.

yuicebox 09-28-2013 05:03 PM

I got this for free by saying that I didn't want it on the car, so I too have this factory option.

Anyone think theres any merit to adding a better midpipe to make the axleback into a real catback?

Also forgive my ignorance of exhaust systems, if I just said something stupid, please teach me so I don't sound dumb in the future

If you didn't get what you paid for the call Scion/USA and b!tch about it buddy.;)

Here's some pictures of what the folks on GA (and it seems like FL) got. I am writing up a complaint to Scion since Southeast Toyota has no contact form or e-mail.

You can see that the exhaust tips look the same, then you look underneath....

twag4 09-28-2013 06:23 PM

wow, that sure does look like the factory mid-pipe. it looks like they are buying components and building it themselves

TRD-X 09-28-2013 06:27 PM

Yeah you got screwed that doesn't look like the ones my dealer got from port.

I would ask for my money back or the parts I was suppose to get.;)

Exactly what I just sent Scion. Since there was no attachment bit though I told them I could supply pictures if desired.

TRD-X 09-28-2013 06:50 PM

@PSORngr it looks like southeast toyota stopped offering the Borla exhaust as I can't find the dealer link anymore. http://i1011.photobucket.com/albums/...fts/hmmmm2.gif

I was going to post a link for you showing the exhaust but it's not listed anymore.

I wonder if it's because of this axle-back vs cat-back business. I guess we'll see what Scion says. I'll report in when I hear from them (I assume Monday).

PSORngr 10-01-2013 05:11 PM

Ok, update time.

Scion got back to me yesterday saying sorry yada, yada, yada. I was contacted by the dealer today and told I'd be contacted by Southeast Toyota. My current understanding is that Southeast Toyota has acknowledged that it is in fact an axle-back, which is why it is no longer listed on their site, and will be removing the system and giving me my $699 back.

If that happens my current plan is to reject that and make sure I get $699+taxes I paid and I will be purchasing the Borla cat-back myself and telling them to install it for me free of charge for wasting my time.
Or @TRD-X I'll tell them to get the real cat-back exhaust from your dealership and replace my exhaust with it since your dealership is also Southeast Toyota.

Its a port installed option, installed by south east toyota, its really not a factory option. So it very easily could have been different between a couple of batches of cars if they ordered a different part number due to a shortage or and F-Up in shipping / ordering.

yuicebox 10-02-2013 12:13 PM

We should try to aggregate more information on this matter. Id really appreciate the full catback version, but I would need some solid evidence and photos of the other exhaust to convince dealers to make the swap

Your solid evidence is the picture of the exhaust on the Borla website and their official videos and then the exhaust under your car. Really can't get any more solid than that.

That said, it sounds like at this point SE Toyota will just be removing the axle-back system, installing the OEM exhaust, and refunding money. I plan on getting more out of them (get them to install the real Borla cat-back for free). You can buy the real Borla cat-back off amazon for the same price that the axle-back cost from the dealership (at least mine, $699).
