no its not

Guff 04-05-2012 10:21 PM

It's not the best color.

There, I did it!!!

I love the red, but I would pick WRB, DGM, SWP, and probably GBS over it...

Ikaros 04-05-2012 10:29 PM

psh, everyone knows money butt red is the best colour ever xD

S2kphile 04-05-2012 10:31 PM

I already have mines pre-ordered in Red but debating SWP since I saw it in person and it was teh sex!

Turbowned 04-05-2012 10:43 PM

Scion rep was pretty knowledgeable. Not much I didn't already know, except that the roof is aluminum and there's no steering-wheel mounted audio controls because it would affect wheel size. Cool!

And red is ONE of the best colors ;)

TheRipler 04-05-2012 10:49 PM

Looks good, almost as good as the WR Blue. :)

SixSpeed 04-05-2012 11:34 PM

Red is the best color...to catch a cop's attention!

tripjammer 04-06-2012 12:36 AM

Wow this guy was just throwing out lies right and left. There was a BRZ shown with stereo controls on the wheel, scion just did not include it for cost reasons. The top of the car is not aluminum. It's steel. The only part that is aluminum is the hood.

U don't need control buttons on the wheel if the stereo is voice controlled.

This is true.

Haha, damn Scion rep...

That is actually a HUGE myth - researchers found no significant difference in ticketing rates for cars of different colours.

MRZ415 04-06-2012 03:19 AM

RED is indeed a good color if you want COPS to watch out for you,
I picked DGM to stay LOW profile off the cop radar.

not alot of cars are RED on the road(at least here where I live),
the majority of the RED cars I see are Ferrari ( like the 458 for example)

I've seen a few articles mention that the hood is aluminum, has anyone confirmed this either way?

Also, I can't find any BRZ pics with steering wheel controls, sure it wasn't a photoshop/prototype?

Well, you ARE spotted faster due to the fact that red travels the farthest of any color. Thus why stop signs are red.

I think it was just a prototype for CES, which was the only time the steering controls were ever shown and it doesn't seem to be the option as of now. Perhaps a one off? I dislike the steering controls, to me its stepping the boundaries of being a pure sports car love the naked steering wheel.

BTW swp is the best color :) Red is my second choice though.

Actually red light will travel less distance due to atmospheric absorption. The human eye is also less sensitive to red light then it is to green or yellow, and the Sun creates less red light than it does green or yellow light. But the human brain is hardwired to notice red because it is the color of blood and, by extension, danger.

Stop signs are red because stop lights are red. Before the 1950's stop signs were yellow w/ black writing, but were changed to match stoplights. And traffic lights are red=stop because they were invented by a railroad engineer and on railroad signals, red=stop.

Ikaros 04-06-2012 10:08 AM

Humans are also hard wired to spot red within crowds, for example early human scavengers will spot fruits and berries in forest judging by their colour, this also ties into the fact that some fruits and berries turns red when they are ready for consumption. Plus guys tends to dig the colour red cause it's also one of the signals we get from women who are showing they are sexually active. That's like 2 reasons why red is usually a colour that catches our attention the most for both males (the sex thing) and females (the scavenger thing).

NESW20 04-06-2012 12:25 PM

it's not my favorite color on the car. also, i already own two red vehicles. i used to have three. i don't need another red vehicle, haha.

You're always a cornucopia of knowledge. :happy0180:

The Red used on the Zx6 is a very nice red, with great saturation and excellent hue.

While you're on the subject, the human eye is a bit deceiving when observing objects. Red looks interesting due how much of it is used, leading to make it look like something is moving, hence my original post. Kind of like thinking a straight road is straight, when it's following the curvature of the earth in a straight line.

Interesting supposition but I have never seen any evidence to support it. It's equally plausible that red is noticed more (if in fact that is the case) simply because in the natural world it is a far rarer colour than brown, green, and blue. There's a lot of pop evolutionary psychology floating around here. Evolutionary psychology is a lot like Freudian psychology, its theories can be invoked post-hoc to explain just about everything - no proof needed.

I love Monkey ass red “Sports cars have to be red, but we wanted a new red,” said Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer, according to AutoWeek. “So we came up with shoujyouhi red, the traditional red color of a Japanese monkey’s backside.” http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009...r-ft-86-color/

I have a pearl white SC300 and although I really like white most people wouldn't realize I got a new car so Firestorm it is for me.

Would the OP confirm that his video is accurate on the shade of red as I'm worried that it will be the ugly orangy red some companies make? I want a deep Ferrari red. Also is it metallic or solid?

I was concerned about the orange that shows in photos. In person it is not. I think my photos just posted show more accurately than some precious postings but it still looks different in person. Firestorm is definitely not orange red. Its darker thaan that. I obviously didn't see them side by side but it looked like a close match to my 05 Mustang.

All in all, red has the longest light wavelength. Why the sunset looks orangy-red, due to the angle of the sun and its light traveling longer horizontally rather than more vertically @ noon; also this is why the sky is blue.

Pretty sure the trunk is aluminium.

I believe the hood (bonnet) is aluminum. I was feeling it and it seemed different than the rest of the car, but I'm not a metallurgist.

Sport-Tech 04-09-2012 06:39 PM

IIRC the hood but not the trunk is aluminum. (Makes sense from a weight balancing perspective, shifts weight rearwards.)
