HELP!!! Need series 10 input before 6 today!
All,
As some of you may know, I purchased a AT firestorm FR-S this past weekend. The dealership gives me a 72 hour no question asked refund ... but I like the car. The dealership filled the tank with 86 octane gas and it has been running like crap (and developed chirping)! I burned out the gas ... filled with 93 octane ... and it is running better (no more chirping) ... but still not 100% (my opinion). The car now has 500 miles on it. The have agreed to get me a new car ... but they only have a series 10 in AT on the lot. They have offered it to me for an additional $1500 ... is it worth it? I like the red color the best, but I guess I could live with the silver. Money is not really a problem ... I just do not know if it is worth the increase or if I should just have them find me another red car ... Thoughts? |
I'm not fully updated with the 10 series, but you get cool illuminated knob, HID, LED, "Special scion silver", and probably additional little perks.
If I were you, I would go for it. All that extra for $1500 isn't bad. |
I think it's worth the additional $1500 for the headlights and push button start, etc.
|
Feature wise, I think it's totally worth it. Unless you don't like the features. Take the 10 for a spin to see. Sounds like you want a red car so it seems pretty clear to me what to do.
|
Keep the Firestorm - if you switch to silver, every time you walk out to your car, you'll shed a man tear cuz it's not red.

I would. You get HIDs, keyless entry/ignition, and nicer climate control. That's worth $1500 in my book if you're ok with silver.
|
The red is very nice ... in fact I had to order it. The silver is not bad ... and I like the upgrades, especially the push button start and HID ... really torn here!
|
unfortunately they want me to make up my mind tonight by 6 or my 72 hour thingy is gone!
|
@rskdsk I went from an FRS to a BRZ; and although I didn't have your color dilemma, I would still say the extra features are definitely worth the $1500. Just the JDM/EDM headlights alone from the GT86 are $2,000
And the smart key access is incredibly nice to have - not having to pull out my key every time I need to open the trunk or get in the car. Didn't even think I cared until I had it lol Plus, you get to include the red TRD button in your mod list if you so choose ;) |
If you are really into the lights, push button, and the color then yes. If none of that matters then go with red because it is an awesome color.
|
Put it this way ... I almost bought the red BRZ just to have all the other option with the color. The Subaru dealership jacked the price when I went to close by 4k over the FR-Z, so I told him to pound sand and bought the Red FR-Z with the Bespoke.
Again, not that the money was an issue ... but to tell me one price and then try to screw me with another price ... questionable integrity. |
don't like how it drives?
What are you trying to accomplish here? You don't like how the red FR-S drives and so you think going to the silver one will be better? It's the exact same drive train, engine, etc. They should drive exactly the same. Now if the limited was a MT, I'd say go drive it there will be a difference in how they drive. Perhaps an MT would be more fun for you.
If you're worried about losing money and you don't like the car... it's too late in general as you've already bought it. Unless you think you can sell the silver one for more than $1500 for the red, stick with what you have. I love my FR-S... it's not the perfect car but as a daily driver, it's awesome. That said, others find the power lacking and favor other cars. It's your choice. |
For 1500 it's totally worth it, the HID headlights are 2K alone, the Dual climate gives the interior a more upclass look, and the 2014 radio is awesome.
|
Still $1500 more than you originally paid and not the color you want. I would say no.
|
I work at a Toyota Dealership. I waited until the 10 series came out before I purchased one. I absolutely love it. The Smart Key System with Push Button Start will spoil you. You will grow to love the color. You're getting a good deal if you go with the 10 Series for just $1500 more. Good Luck
|
u put 500 miles on a car in 72 hrs... holy wtf
btw - get the 10 series, yolo |
like everyone else has said, for the 1500 extra, it is worth it. those headlights alone cost more than that.
|
How does this dealer do this? They are going to take a big hit on the value of your used car, and give you a 10 for 1500 bucks.
|
Not 100% sure, but, one of our members in our area has the Series 10 and they seem to think that the suspension tuning is different (read softer) than the regular FR-S more similar to the GT86. The glowing bits can be decision point for a lot of people, but, the climate control and push button start are pretty sweet. However, more than anything, if you aren't set on the Firestorm colour, everyone loves the HID headlights with the LED DRL's.
|
I would just for the features and the fact that it's a "limited" edition
|
I would do the 10 series for the headlights alone. Those and the push button start are crazy expensive to try and add afterwords.
|
Totally worth it. Go and check it out urself
|
We have an auto 10 series at my dealership and it is super nice. For 1500 it is a no brainer. Get it!!
|
For the features, absolutely. The HIDs, push-button start, and keyless entry and exit are more than worth $1500.
If you are dead set on red though, then you are dead set on red. Only reason I can see then about making the switch to the 10 series is if you really wanted the features and were thinking of adding them separately. It would probably be cheaper to paint the 10 Series red than do those add-ons by yourself. |
U can wrap it red if u really wanted to
|
Thanks for the input ... I am leaning toward buying the series 10.
BTW, my current red car has chirping, weird engine tap, and low on power ... either way I need a new one ... and it is free! Except if I upgrade to the series 10 ... then 1500. BTW2: My red car had 200 miles on it before I even bought it because it was delivered to me by someone driving it from another dealership ... 195 miles away. They used a full tank of 86 octane then as well as filling it up for me with another tank of 86 .... |
|
It might be harder to live with a color you don't care for than to
Lose a few gadgets that you don't really need. Just sayin.. This is more of a minimalist sports car that doesn't really need auto Climate, keyless start... The HIDs would be nice.. But the car is fun as hell without that stuff. But if red makes the car for you.. Then think twice before you do it.. I like the less is more approach in this kind of car.. Quote:

10 Series is worth the extra $1500.
The real question is: When buying a sports/fun car, you have to buy the car because you LIKE IT, not because it's a GOOD DEAL. Otherwise, eventually the "good deal" aspect will fade, and you will feel miserable driving something you didn't absolutely want. |
I had this same dilemma when I bought mine. I really wanted the Firestorm, but I liked the extra features of the 10 Series so much more. Ultimately, I went with the 10 Series, and here's why:
Limited Edition means the car is going to hold its value much better. Each one has a badge number, and there are 2500 in total. I totally lucked out that my dealership had a 10 Series MT when I went to buy my car. I hear there were only something like 700 of them made. I would have definitely got a base model MT over a 10 Series AT. Anyways, I'd definitely recommend getting the 10 Series. It's well worth the extra $1,500. And if you don't like the color... you can always paint it or get it vinyl-wrapped later on. |
Silver doesn't show dirt like any other color would, but I just love the Firestorm on the twins. If I didn't have a red jeep, I was taking a red FR-S (opted for black and kind of regret that some...). I had a silver prelude back in the day and even though I washed it massive amounts, it rarely ever "looked" like it needed it. The metallic silver was a B**** to color match when I got rear ended, though - just an additional point.
That being said, the HIDs, keyless ignition, and updated climate control would proooooobably be enough to sway me back to silver. Your choice, friend. Red in color or upgrades on silver! |

definitly worth it, its all about the little things love it more than a base frs
|
Would 83 or whatever octane you said really cause an issue that long lasting? I've never even heard of 83 octane. I didn't think it went lower than 87. Throw some 100+ in it... find it at any race shop or motorcycle store... that ought to give you some "boost"... lol.
Btw, hope you went for the 10 series. The 13 is going to be limited edition one day, but the 10 series is going to be even MORE limited edition! |
I love my 10. I use to pull out my pretend key and try to start my car. But now it's all about gundam action push start now! too awesome! The extra features make the car look alot more luxurious as well. DO IT. :burnrubber:

Think about it, which do you prefer, the color which is used to appeal to people from the outside? Or the interior, which is used to appeal to YOU. So for me, Series 10 is a better pick. This of course comes from the viewpoint that you would be inside the car most of the time driving it instead of staring at it. :)

DO IT.
