I Test drove the BRZ today! Sexy Beast!

Tanks Gott, I ordered my BRZ this morning! With pricing like this I'm sure Subaru is going to be flooded with orders! Scion is so screwed, if you ask me. BRZ is more for the money and better looking front end, interior & standard options. Seats look better in the BRZ too...

I'm 6th on their order list. This particular dealership has only been allocated 9 for the year.

OH!, I almost forgot!, I got to test drive the demo BRZ they had! No lie! On the streets and through back roads, sales rep went with me. None of that parking lot only stuff! Coming for a BMW, i was really impressed with the BRZ steering and the engine growled nicely while climbing the gears into the 5k to 7k range! Sexy Beast are the only words that come to mind! Also, the car looks so much better in person!

The dealership is Farrish Subaru of Fairfax VA. Ask for Jackie Coogan! Great guy! The demo car will be there until Saturday. Pic of Demo Car below. (w/jersey Plates...)

Woot, Woot!,:happyanim:

Since you mentioned it, which BMW are you coming from? I have a '97 318i and curious how similar our car ownership backgrounds are.

Zgrinch 04-05-2012 06:38 PM

Yes indeed I am very proud of my color choice.

Sport-Tech 04-05-2012 06:41 PM

Really? That black (it's definitely NOT the DGM) is a complete snoozefest.

I chose WRB but we aren't really getting into a "No my favorite color is the best color" argument are we? :bonk:

To each their own :)

It's the (DGM), Asphalt. Must be the angle of the shot but the paint job has a serious metallic flake effect to it. I ordered the Galaxy Blue Silica... I went to Tysons Corner Subaru first, and they had a GBS there (for viewing only).

Looks DGM to me. How was ride quality?

I think it looks DGM, DGM is quite a dark shade of gray, the true black color looks like your typical deep shiny black with a lot of glittery stuff in it.

Ahem....you boys were saying what..???

I know my color, yes it does appear very dark, but that's no black.

Kimsey47 04-05-2012 06:54 PM

DGM for the win! Looks like Zgrinch and I can both be proud of our color selection... That looks sooooo good!

I had a 135i coupe. Ditched the runflats, got the Dinan ECU flash and suspension - stage 2. (387hp with 427ftp torque). It was an 08 model (first year) and the warrant was coming up so I sold it. Gets expensive after that...

I Looking forward to the BRZ. Handling was quick, immediate and well weighted. Car stayed flat no matter how sharp or quickly I turned. I was amazed.

Don't worry I know what's good, but I wanted to hear it straight from the horses mouth. Cause that didn't make any sense to me. :D

I like hearing about good steering feel. Could you be more descriptive pretty please? How was the on-center feel? How about the texture of the feedback during steady state cornering? Does it feel alive in your hand? An important perspective is, what BMW are you currently in?

Thanks. ...and congrats on your test drive!

The ride was firm but not annoyingly jarring. You feel the road on uneven pavement but the impacts are controlled well. Feels like an aftermarket suspension to me. I liked it. Enthusiasts will like it.

Wow, I was sure that was black (still not convinced it isn't) -- if its DGM, what a drag, I really liked the look of Asphalt in shots like the one below, and it was going to be my choice. If that pic above is what it really looks like outside I'll pass. Any comments from those who have seen it live?

I replied to another post'rs question, but here's more description. First off its a small steering wheel but it was perfect for the size of the ****pit. On center was tight and exact, no play, nicely weighted, but not really heavy. You could one-had-it during a u-turn, but it also felt tight and exact when tossing the steering wheel back and forth. The car immediately follows exactly to your input. Incredible, just incredible. The steering and handling were the seller for me. I didn't plan on ordering today but after the test drive I was sold. also you feel the road through the steering but it's not harsh, you won't find any jittering of the steering wheel when encountering rough pavement. Tight and communicative. Hope that made sense. :bonk:

Go to the nearest Subaru dealership and look. There should Foresters, WRXs of that color. To me it looks like dirty-black, unless freshly waxed, in which case you can see the spark in it. Hence, I passed on this color.

I think it is just where the light isn't able to actively hit the side of the car causing it to look extremely dark...

Kimsey47 04-05-2012 07:27 PM

BTW, Mango, thanks for the post! There are so many good reviews and things people have said about this car that have driven it that I don't see how I could be disapointed when I finally have my go.

I think the BRZ is worth the minimal price difference. I think a lot of pre-ordered Scions will be canceled when they see they can get more for their money with the BRZ. And it will impact Scion's bottom line because of their pricing. Just my opinion. dont flame me... :23:

The 135i is the other car im considering. Coming from a car with double the hp did you feel that it was sufficiently powered?

After doing a little more checking, I think you are wrong on the color in the op photo for 2 reasons. It's most likely black, not DGM.

The pic below is from the crystal black thread and as you can see there is lot of metallic flake in it as well, so flake does not preclude the car being black.

Second, if you look at the tires in your pic, which was clearly taken with a cellphone camera with poor white balance, you can see that the sidewalls have the same greyish-brown tint as the paint, when they should be solid black. This suggests to me that the reason the car does not appear as black as it should is due to a camera issue.

Wouldn't that be ironic if Toyota's move to save Scion with the FR-S was killed off by the same car it was trying to sell: The BRZ?

I've seen DGM on several Subies other than BRZ both inside under trade show lights and outside. While it is darker than what you posted, given the lighting, the pic in this thread is under part shade and not full sunlight.

From what I have seen, Hanzo's pics have come the closest to what I have seen on other Subies.

Could be my crappy cell phone camera. Trust me the car looks as good in person as the pic you posted. I have a Asphalt 2010 Highlander Sport and it looks different depending on the lighting, overcast, shade. Over all its an incredible color but as I said I already have that color so I went for the GBS, which is pure sex.

If its the same paint code I definitely will look before ordering, thanks for the tip.

Not at all. The power to weight ratio seems to be fine in the BRZ. I wouldn't argue that a turbo would be great. My BMW Hpower was sick... but it was also a fat little pig,(3208 curb weight). It felt heavy though, compared to the BRZ. I say its a personal preference. Both cars are good in their own way. I think the BRZ will be more track "fun".

Heres a pick of my car (BMW)

You are right that it is a dark color, and hence easy to confuse with black... My decision was made when I went to a dealer and saw the color in person, but dark colors are not for everyone, but I will say it is a much richer looking than black. Let us know your opinion when you get a chance to see the color.

I'll just go over there early tomorrow morning. What a huge bummer. Was it a manual or automatic?
