Spyder Headlights - Whoa.

I was scrolling through this site and stumbled across this pre-order:

if this fits like oem, this makes jdm headlights look stupid lol. 2k for a set lol.

Beware the DRL is on the bottom tho, top is turn signal.

If it is easy to disassemble them, I'm gonna try to change the LED color and wiring.

topazsparrow 09-25-2013 01:58 PM

I'd buy these in a heartbeat. are the high-beams integrated into the projector? I wonder what modifications would be needed to make that work on an FR-S which uses halogens for the High-beams by default.

vividracing 09-25-2013 02:00 PM

I'm sure they will look good but i just can't imagine it on the car right now. Maybe it depends on the color of the car.

tennisfreak 09-25-2013 02:02 PM

They do look pretty sweet.

Absolutely!! We are definitely not trying to deceive anyone. We are collecting pre-order deposits for those interested in reserving their own set of these when they are first released; we are an Authorized Spyder Dealer and are super excited for these to drop! Speculation is that the retail price of these will be roughly 600-$750, but it could be more or less than this. We will not know for certain until we receive the official details.

In the meantime, for anyone wishing to reserve their set, we are accepting deposits of $200 at the link above; if you wish to reserve a set with a smaller deposit (we will accept as low as $50), you may do so as well by contacting us! Any deposit amount placed will be credited towards the retail price, and an invoice for the balance due will be emailed once they are released and ready for the public! :D

it seems little busy to me..

Vicious LED 09-25-2013 02:18 PM

Update: We actually just lowered the pre-order deposit price on our website to $50. :)

I personally think these look terrible. They are not clean at all. If they just had the gt86 style led strip I'd buy it. I feel like people these days are trying way too hard to make audi style lights. Keep it simple

It could violate the copyrighted design issues.

SpeedyJay 09-25-2013 02:36 PM

Not a huge fan personally, they kind of remind me of the cheap ebay civic headlights with the LED strips in them.. maybe I'm just getting old.

SunkenFRS 09-25-2013 02:39 PM

I could maybe see that but i doubt it. You use different LEDs, materials and slightly different dimensions and your safe. Not to mention by getting rid of the extra LEDs it minimizes their cost to produce so they can sell it cheaper or sell it for the same price and get more profit

Kids Heart 09-25-2013 03:44 PM

What are the challenges of producing jdm replicas?

jadewbj 09-25-2013 03:51 PM

Here is a pic on a car.

I know that I shouldn't quote pictures, but some of the LED's are blown/out.

Pre Production model.

STV3 09-25-2013 04:16 PM

I'm more concerned about the output of the projectors in there and if they will work well with hids

Ammonia 09-25-2013 04:27 PM

Why cant the led strip be a smooth tube? Like in the BRZ boomerang or the Audi strip? A chain of individual bulbs looks unfinished to me. Just an observation.

i would expect the same of the final production model. most spyder housings like that use 5mm led's, and well, for that exact reason i don't trust a 5mm led for anything that actually serves a semi-serious purpose..

it was that consistent shoddy quality that drive me to make my own tail lights on my last car...

Exactly, just look at some of the tail lights that are out.

You just know that these will be terrible in terms of usable light output and they will likely come as halogen only (or you could use a cheapo Chinese made rebased HID kit...).

Yeah that's I am assuming they are going to be like

eddieEndo 09-27-2013 01:57 AM

Now correct me if I'm wrong... in the past all the other automobiles I've owned I've learned that aftermarket headlights (specifically ebay ones) are terrible chinese knockoffs that haze over in a year, and condensate like crazy!!! Is the aftermarket market for the frs different because it's upmarket?? Can someone clarify please

soundman98 09-29-2013 06:02 PM

i don't believe it's any different, as shown by the valenti tail led failure thread..
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41426

but i must say--kudo's to the resellers that those guys are dealing with for replacing the sets, and trying to get people back on the road as quickly as possible, but when the resellers are given a low quality product in the first place, there's only so much they can do..
