Flushed Taillights
I did some searching, and waited for some time for an OEM styled tail light that doesn't protrude outwards. I'm sorry I don't have an illustration nor the photoshop to visually show what I'm talking about. I don't mind the OEM, but can't stand the bug eyed look from a side angle.
Not sure if its just me or if anyone else feels the same way.. edit Before http://imageshack.com/a/img534/7268/w680.jpg After http://imageshack.com/a/img69/3292/v8sk.jpg |
Yes. I think the tail lights are the biggest design flaw in our cars followed by the location of the third brake light.
|
The panel gaps would look weird as you'd have to make a filler panel that connects to the bumper.

The way that the back was designed I dont think something flat will look very good at all. I actually dont mind the design, but would've been great if the tails came in red instead of having to paint them

Mhmm. The car just isn't designed for it.
|
I would love flushed tails, I could be done using the stock shape just have them with a concave lens to match the rear body curves.
|
the STi concept tails look a little more flush.. but the chances of those making it to production are probably close to zero...
|
I just want the sti front bumper lol. take my money!

Could you make one where you keep the original style but with the clear light housing contouring/flat against the car? The lights don't bother me at all, it's just the fact that its sticking out too much. :sigh: @Hardrock4445 has got it spot on. Thanks! |
I think they tail lights are gorgeous. +1 just wished they came in all red

I also have the same gripe with the front headlight but that's for another topic, and it doesn't bother me as much. |
plus I hope you know the tail lights were designed like that with aerodynamics in mind

Here's what I came up with.. Tried my best with what I had.. Edit: if someone can make one that looks smoother please help out xD http://imageshack.com/a/img534/7268/w680.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img69/3292/v8sk.jpg |
^ first pic is 'unavailable', but the second pic works once i open it in a new tab.
i don't care for that at all.. makes the back end look too flat |

Also, could some of the brands like valenti or Toms make one with this housing design? |
I like my toms:D
The stock tails reminds me of aftermarket celica tails |

Does anyone know where I can start to get this sort of custom tail light made? |
No. Filler and then use a screw driver and poke holes for some LEDs

Plastidip? Seems to solve everyone's problems.
|
..added photos to original post.
Were you referring to some sort of drilling and filling to achieve that? |
I vote that the brakelight is worse from a design/functionality perspective. Why the hell wasn't it integrated into the trunk lid? As it is, it blocks some of the view out the rear windshield and frankly looks cheap.
|
roof spoiler + a little acrylic and some lumiled superflux's will fix that right up!.. it's on my (long) list of first mods...
|
I like the stock tail look better, The back of this car is unique, I wouldnt tamper with the basic lines.
|
I don't think even the retrofit guys would touch this since most of them use the stock lens. You'd be wasting a couple lights assuming you DIDN'T mess them up. One would have to be filled with filler, sculpted and then you'd have to vacuum form clear acrylic over it (after heating it up.) Just to make the lens. Then you'd have to rework all the lights and the chrome bits inside on a separate light to figure out how to arrange them followed by fiberglassing the inside in to something decent looking before painting/plating. After that you've probably wrecked your second set of lights. So you'll need a 3rd set to make your final version out of...
So in short it's never going to happen :) It may be easier to just paint the side of the light the color of your car and then clear the whole lens. |
