Al Futtaim Motors' licence plate bumper holes

Hey guys,

Been thinking about relocating my licence plate and buying the grimmspeed relocation kit. Well, before buying that, I decided to take off the factory's licence plate bracket (Al Futtaim Motors in United Arab Emirates) for the sake of knowing how un-noticeable the holes will be when looked from a far distance and guess what I found!

Not quite sure I'd call them holes, maybe holes on steroids :bellyroll:. What's the point of that! I don't think the word "Aluminum" or "light-weight" licence plates were in their minds when they were drilling holes on the bumpers, more like the word "steel" and "heavy-weight" were.

To all Al Futtaim motors cars, beware about thinking to relocate your licence plate, guess we have to replace the bumper or fab the crap out of the bumper to make it work.

Big bummer.

Jertronic 09-19-2013 11:52 AM

Sorry to see that. Sucks bro.

bdanisi 09-19-2013 02:55 PM

holy SHIT! Whoever's job it is to drill those holes should be shot!

Skurge 09-19-2013 03:21 PM

and i thought i was being dumb because the plate frame made two little "dents" in my bumper and scratched the paint off......damn man that sucks

Yamajee 09-19-2013 04:24 PM

Might just replace the bumper with a new undrilled one and get the kit, got used to their crap from all of the yota's I had.

Have you guys got slimline plates in Dubai?

Basically like a normal plate, just a bit slimmer. Maybe you guys even have "sticker" plates that are legal over there? That could work as well :P

Hardrock4445 09-19-2013 05:00 PM

Is it just me or do those holes look to "factory" to be a tech a dealerships job. I haven't seen many euro spec 86's maybe factory made on those?

mush 09-19-2013 05:02 PM

Wow that suks. I would just mount the plates back on

ZionsWrath 09-19-2013 05:13 PM

Yes I am about 100% sure the holes in your picture are factory. Look at some other GT 86 and you will see eerily similar holes.

philstar 09-19-2013 05:21 PM

They are factory

Ryuu0u 09-19-2013 05:24 PM

I would hate to see what the bumper of something like a ferrari or lambo looks like.

Yeah we do, they're not given away easily since some have abused them as in you'd see a car with a really huge place for a number plate and in the end you'd see just a small sticker lmao.

That's weird, my friend has an 86 but from another dealership and he doesn't have these holes! surprised to see they come from the factory like this.

CircuitJerk 09-19-2013 08:34 PM

I was gonna say it's not factory but the holes look cleaner than my mess, and mine were done at the dealership.
That's a real ****-move if it's coming like that from the factory... EDIT: Orly? I can't say d-ick? What a bitch. My father's name was D_I_C_K! FFS!

My ugliness...

Omg those are terrible I would demand a new bumper ASAP

Yours are pretty simple to cover up, I don't know what it would be called in English but they use fiber to cover up the holes then sand it down and paint it to make it look like new.

To be honest the size of your holes are what I expected to have on mine yet I was surprised with half of the bumper gone .

ChristosG 09-19-2013 10:55 PM

I asked my dealership for no holes and I didn't have any. I don't think this is from the factory, but might be done at the port depending on your location.

lazyluka 09-19-2013 11:42 PM

Had mine off today, looks like the above.

Yes, I've heard of a few cases like yours, they do it at the port usually but when someone said it's from the factory it got me confused.

ZionsWrath 09-20-2013 07:19 AM

Drilling the front plate is part of vehicle delivery. Unless you ask specifically not to do it, they will do it if a front plate is required in your state.

NoChance 09-20-2013 08:36 AM

Yeah, I have the same problem here in America. I bought my car in Virginia where they require font plates. But I live in North Carolina, no front plate required. I took the plate bracket off and found giant holes. Very pissed.

In my province, front plates are mandatory as well. However, they still went through with my request. As long as you ask they won't do it.

Same thing for us too but to get a sticker number or a rather smaller size plate number you would have to show the car registration dept. that there is no way of mounting a normal sized licence plate in there.

damn that sucks:confused0068:, someone's gotta pay :paddle:

on the bright side, you have an excuse to get a TRD front lip kit now:party0030:

ftc~brz 09-20-2013 08:42 PM

Maybe I should get this covered by the warranty and have them replace it with a TRD :bonk:

Damn and I was planning on getting the relocation kit too, now I'm afraid to pull my plate off.

lickitysplit 09-23-2013 01:31 AM

That was a deal breaker for me. Told them if they drilled into my bumper for the plate I would walk out the door. Needless to say I don't have why holes drilled into my bumper.

campy 09-23-2013 01:59 AM

Yeah it's annoying. You have to remember to tell them not to drill holes before you sign the contract. Make sure they write it on the receipt too. I told them not to put any dealership stickers on mine, but forgot to say anything about front license plates.

bkblitzed 09-23-2013 02:11 AM

dam i guess im lucky. My dealer just drilled 2 holes in the black mesh area. Pretty hard to see the holes
