Small Photo Shoot With My New BRZ

Hello all, for the last few months I've mostly lurked on this site while I researched what new car to buy. Now I've finally signed up because two weeks ago I said goodbye to my 2000 2.5rs Coupe and took delivery of my 2013 BRZ. This weekend I convinced my self to take a break from driving it long enough to do a small photo shoot and I thought a good way to sell hello to the forums would be to share the results rather than clog up the Say Hi thread with a bunch of photos. I am photographer by trade so being able to combine the two things I enjoy most is pretty awesome.

Yeah. I loved her very much. It was a really tough decision. But I've got a new job that requires much more travel and the car had up wards of 165K on the clock. Little things were starting to go, rust was becoming a constant battle and it was missing some comforts they just didn't have 13 years ago. I had plans do a wrx swap and fix everything I could... but that much money into a 13 year old car made me cringe. So, I decided to be more "adult" and look at new cars. One test drive in the BRZ and I was hooked.

I think it's a real testament to how good a car the BRZ is that I hardly miss my old RS.

Thanks! I shot all these with my Nikon d700 using my 50mm 1.4 and 14-24 2.8 lenses. Then I processed in CS6 with the help of some Nik Software plug-ins.

ftc~brz 09-18-2013 05:41 PM

nice. very nice. I've been interested in the HDR style photos. They just grab me. Nice to meet a brz/nikon-er.
I shoot with my d80. Too busy upgrading my car iso my camera and lenses. ;)
I'm very old school so the processing is bananas to me. But I sure can work an old b/w enlarger!

As my great grandma would say, "that shit's gangster as fuck." I love the contrast of textures between all the rough concrete jungleness and the supa smooth car.

Haha yeah. Being into photography and cars is tough on the bank account. I actually sold my old CRX to buy my camera and break into the business side. But, man props to you if you still have access to working B&W dark room, they are pretty rare around me. If you ever want to get into the digital side, check out Silver Efex Pro, its a plug in made for working with digital B&W conversions thats pretty awesome

Thanks so much man, and everyone for the good feed back. I must have waited around in that parking garage for almost an hour waiting for the sun to be in the right position for that shot. Totally worth it.

thanks much for the input. I don't do photog professionally anymore at least not for money. Mad props to those that can make a business out of it these days when every soccer mom with a dslr thinks they have an eye.
you sir definitely have a skill

Wow, those pictures are just stunning. I am no photographer, but I can appreciate the skill and patience involved with getting pictures like that, plus you do a great job of bringing out the beautiful lines on the car.

Oh and I love the GC too! :)

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks so much man, actually I am pretty sure the first mod I did to the GC years ago was a rear sway I picked up from you guys. Once I am ready to start buying parts for the BRZ I will have to repeat that.

Haha you guys are actually being optimistic, you don't want to know how often I hear "I shot this with my phone and I want to frame it, how big can you print this?"

Gary in NJ 09-20-2013 03:22 PM

Great photos. Like you, one day I'll have to stop driving and take a few photos.

Congrats!! But sad to see you sold a 2.5, I love those so much! It's hard to find a good one in my area though and I'm not experienced enough to completely fix one up.

I like those cool old brick buildings in the background with the old water tower.

Nice car.

practice practice practice. seriously.. that is 75% practice/skill, and 25% tools used(camera, editing software, etc)

this guy shoots only with an older canon point and shoot-- i don't think he spent more than $200 on the camera.
