Closed Topics

Does anybody know why forums have been getting closed? I started a thread that asks if Toyota will have an 86 in the US and it got closed. There is also some people talking about doing a group buy in California that got closed. It seems like these are on topic to me.

Simple: because these threads exist already.
Do a search, find them and add to them.
Rationalising/locking threads is the only way to keep from having a gazilion 12 post threads and instead have only 1000s of useful centralised threads.

ichitaka05 04-03-2012 06:41 PM

^Pretty much

We try to merge some of the stuff... but not always.

Also if there's a some dispute on moving/merging/deleting on the certain post, PM us and we can explain the reason it's been moved/merged/deleted.

Mr.Jay 04-03-2012 06:45 PM

also your question would of been answered if you looked at any article about the FRS ever

NA = SCION only NO Toyota

trackmagic 04-03-2012 07:02 PM

Thanks Mr. Jay, I finally got an answer to my question. By the way I did search for this topic. 11 pages and I did not find what I was looking for.

What exactly did you type in.

Most people don't type in the correct phrases to look for the right topics, and by doing so will not give you the results you want; therefore, having your thread locked.

Lots of new members say they do searches but when some of us search. It shows. Meaning the person searching did a very poor job.

trackmagic 04-03-2012 07:13 PM

I might be a new member, but this is not the first time I used a forum or a search function.

For your information I typed in "toyota", "toyota F86 US", and "toyota in the US".

I know why my thread got closed and I got my Toyota in the US question answered. There is no need to start a thread about how poor my search skills are, but I'll work on that for you Giccin.

Well, it's been over an yr since SCION announce that they gonna get FT86, so it might be very keep inside the forum ;)

I'm pretty sure you did. Yeah, SCION announce it lil before NYIAS yr or so back. Since then we had a ton of threads posted... also we have changed to new server too. We might be missing some of '09 posts too.

We're not tying to flame you by any means, just some noobs (not you) repost same things over & over without search first hand.

A lot of the time when old topics like why no Toyota version, why no turbo, why no AWD, will there be turbo, why no push start, why so expensive... are repeated after having extensive discussions/debates, when a new thread is opens it feels like that person is trolling.

GrimmSpeed 04-03-2012 09:03 PM

Don't take it personal mang...FT86 has had an over abundance of it lately. Moderators are just doing there job.

Wait so you mean if I want to find out something about say a tire's durometer test result then typing "boobs" into google isn't the best way to find that info...

Huh... I guess you do learn something everyday. :search:

Some forums close a thread after it gets to a certain number of pages (like 5) and a new thread has to be re-opened for further discussion. There might be a reason for this but I'm not sure exactly what it is.

Also, some threads/polls were started here before we had solid facts. If a thread is 20+ pages and half of it is speculation/misinformation, bumping it up for other members to re-read might spread misinformation (it's also a pain to sift thru for members old and new). In that case, it may be better to start a fresh new (more factual) thread, let it build on facts, and let the old (largely uninformed) threads die away.

It may sound like I'm stating the obvious but people do search the wrong keywords.

Then bitch about why their thread was locked/deleted.

In their collective defense, the search ignores words that are three letters or less without ever letting the user know. So the OP's searches were absolutely useless without him ever realizing it, because...

will all only turn up results for "toyota" without ever explaining why. Bearing that in mind, it's not at all surprising that the OP couldn't find the information he was looking for amid the dozens of totally unrelated search results.

Ahh, I wasn't aware about it not picking up words less than three characters.

Advance search? Not sure how many people use that feature.

Grimmspeed, I hope that 60 degrees showing on your taskbar isn't your CPU temp in C - if it is and you're not running something like Pi in the background you are going to have a nasty surprise some day! :D

Mr.Jay 04-04-2012 11:13 AM

trackmagic don't take all the heat to heart

a lot of us are just sick of new people making new threads about the most basic of questions

Sport-Tech 04-04-2012 11:26 AM

OK. That's enough. I'm closing this topic.

Longhorn248 04-04-2012 11:43 AM

Oh look, another thread about threads getting closed...

switchlanez 04-04-2012 12:11 PM

Yeah, 60C is quite warm even with stock cooling these days. Think mine goes up to 54 max load with Prime95 running on max heat settings with an i7-2700K with a cheap aftermarket fan and some thermal paste.
