As we featured on our BLOG.

First spy video from the Nurburgring of the 086a in testing, as seen in these photos from earlier in the week.

Plus, an interior photo (though can't tell much cause it's all camoflaged).

Nice post. Can't hear the engine that well and it's kind of quiet. Can anyone tell anything from this car? :)

86Fan 10-17-2009 05:43 PM

Cool vid. That looks like a Z on the steering wheel. lol

VenomRush 10-17-2009 07:49 PM

umm is that a fact that its the ft86/086a??

udon! 10-17-2009 08:59 PM

don't worry its not going to look like that as a production model >_>

VAIF 10-17-2009 11:36 PM

That looks like a Corolla steering wheel, and the door handle seems to have the smart access button

that interior is an impreza interior with a/c vents tacked on the top.. the shape of the cluster area is distinctly an impreza.. its a boxy, round cluster area.. the steering wheel looks like one of these

this next pic doesn't give you a good angle of the area where the dash cluster is hidden, but you'll get the idea.. and oh yea you can see where the cd player goes and the a/c vents were hacked into the top of the dash
http://www.gotbroken.com/wp-content/...ew-588x422.jpgedit you can see the dash swoop in on the passenger side (the silver trim)

plus anyone notice how low the dash sits vs where the driver is? i LOVE IT!.. it sits down low so you can see over the dash, and you're not dug into a bath tub like in the z

One of my biggest gripes about the Z has always been its super low seating position. Not only is the seating low against the dash/hood, but the doors also. Sitting in a bathtub is a good description :)

1) LHD FTMFW!!
2) That sounds like a meaty little growl for a 2.0. Any boxer engine fans able to tell whether that's a 2.0 or 2.5? I like it's prowess through the turns, but I'd prefer to hear it winding out on the straightaway...

Agreed, that car is getting around the turns on the nurburgring pretty well! The end of the video when it leaves the track it sounds like a naturally aspirated four. Didn't sound like it had forced induction.

JDMinc 10-18-2009 02:52 PM

That thing is handling those turns really well!

MTD 10-18-2009 03:51 PM

Looks real small compared to the Golf its following at the end. Ive seen test mules of other Toyota vehicles before and they do look hideous. They use fake plastic fenders and door panels to totally alter the look of the vehicles.

Heres the lights compared to WRX. Think there's different lights underneath?

MR2fan 10-18-2009 08:11 PM

Anyone notice the IS-F? Maybe its out there for the Subaru 086a to be compared to during testing.

Ground N Pound 10-18-2009 10:40 PM

It looks lightweight and very nimble to me. Don't watch this video for styling or aesthetic evaluation but just watch it for its performance and you'll be happy.

White Comet 10-19-2009 02:32 AM

I'm just glad Toyota released photos of the prototype BEFORE the leak of this thing came out... or I don't think any of us would have been nearly as excited at the prospect of this car, had we thought it would turn out like this (shudder)

Black FT-86 10-19-2009 06:48 AM

One really good sign is that there doesn't appear to be much, if any, understeer.
In one of the clips it looks like he's fighting a bit of oversteer at the exit of the turn. They're definitely pushing it, and it looked like it was handling everything just fine, even cresting the banked turn didn't mess it up. Subaru knows how to do long-travel suspensions with all their work on WRC, looks like it will pay off here.

JDMinc 10-19-2009 02:59 PM

Sounds like she's running equal length headers.

mkxr 10-20-2009 05:58 PM

So this is a Subaru test car for testing purposes for the FT86 car? or is Subaru going to release their own version based on the same setup?

yep Subaru will release their own version. Although AWD is still not 100% confirmed and if the engine will be NA or turbo charged.
