Waxing your FRS/BRZ?

Just wondering how many times a year you wax your FRS/BRZ?

Did mine a week after I got it and might do it again sometime near the end of the year.

Oh what brand/type do you use?

Jeong 09-14-2013 02:33 PM

every two to three weeks... LOL im not sure if thats the right way to do it but ive gotten in the habit of doing it and it keeps my car clean and it feels nice too :P

Lol, I don't think there's such thing as waxing the car too much. I would too if I had the time and not always feeling lazy.

mfbmike 09-14-2013 02:54 PM

I use adam's polishes. Typically clay, polish seal and wax twice a year.

Ive seen the Turtle Wax Ice at Target and thought about getting it. Hows that working out for you? I used Maguieres Gold for the first wax in August.

thebus 09-14-2013 03:39 PM

I just started using smart wax and I have to say much better than the McGuires and any other wax I've used, the wash, wax and detail spray are really good in my book

dem00n 09-14-2013 03:49 PM

There's a forum for this.

WITH TONS OF INFO TOO.

Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax, about once a month after a wash.

Barbarian 09-15-2013 07:04 PM

I try to wash weekly, wax every three weeks, and polish every 3 months during the spring summer and fall. I'll wash, polish, and use a longer lasting wax than carnauba at the end of fall and just run it through a touchless car wash every few weeks until it warms up again.

suaveflooder 09-15-2013 07:24 PM

All depends on what you use. I use collonite 845, so once a month for me. I wash it weekly so the whole process when I wax takes about an hour and a half. Normally, I wash the car in 30 minutes or so.

PT-BRZ 09-15-2013 07:59 PM

optimum car wax for me....i'm pretty lazy.

Suberman 09-15-2013 08:18 PM

Waxing is unnecessary with modern paints. Just wash and drive.

Is that a laxative?

I use Griot's polish and wax machine products, the polish step being the most important but only needed annually since my stuff is garaged.

In between quarterly waxing I use their Speed Shine for especially stubborn klag. Otherwise it's hand washing with a quality car shampoo and microfiber cloths using the two-bucket method.

I complete detail the exterior 3-4x per year (clay, polish, glaze, base sealant(klasse), sealant (blackfire wet diamond), topper (pinnacle signature series II). But I will re wax just the 1-2x per month.

Explain in more detail if you would.

I have never used it but my Dad bought it for the first time a few months ago and swears by it. He says it is better than any regular wax he has ever used.

As for me I use Mequires Gold class was and do it 2-3 times per year.

Then I use Meguires Quick wax after every single wash.

gzpermadi 09-16-2013 12:03 PM

Just use spray wax after each wash.
Love the 15 mins time to take to apply those.

Migero86 09-16-2013 12:09 PM

When I bought mine in August, I did a complete paint polish and Sealed it up with 2 coats of Collinite Insulator Wax. Since then I've used a spray wax everytime I wash as a final step and I just got back from a long road trip and the bugs just wiped off with some warm sudsy water. A nice slick paint is so awesome to maintain once its done right. I'll probably do 2 more coats of Collinite before the snow flies.

If you try it I think you'll like it. It's synthetic, so it's a little odd using it at first, but it goes on and wipes off real easily. Also, it seems to hold up pretty good in between applications. Tested it out on my daughter's Challenger before I got my FRS and I was sold on it and have been using it ever since.

You make a valid point.. Wax just smears over the clear coat.. It's not like the old days where you needed to feed the paint..
Use a polymer based wax.. It bonds to the clear coat surface..

I tried Turtle Wax Ice Liquid Wax for the first time a few weeks back after reading posts like this. It was the first wax for my FRS after about a month of ownership. I was very impressed in the ease of application and although it's only been a few weeks since, the protection is very obviously still in full force. Amazing stuff IMO.

Thanks to those in this thread on the heads-up on TW Ice products. Can't wait to use the Liquid Wax again. I've since purchased the Spray Wax based on really enthusiastic reviews. Looking forward to using that between Liquid Wax applications.

Best car wax ever ;)

Many say it's on par or outlasts traditional pastes (even highly rated ones). My experiences, the fingernail slickness, lasts at least a few months, maybe +3 months... much longer than each car wash interval (2wks-1month), and easily done after a wash. It's very easy to put off traditional waxing because of the effort/work/laziness..but not with OCW.

The ICE between wash detailer spray is great stuff as well. It doesn't seem to build up like some sprays can.

When looking into the Ice products, there was considerable confusion between the various "wax" products. In some cases, buyers criticized an Ice product for having "changed" but they actually were comparing two different products. You kinda have to use the product numbers to get it right.

I love the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KTINZI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Liquid Wax[/ame]

The highest rated Ice product is the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KTINWQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Spray Wax[/ame], of which there is more than one. This is the one that has a closely-related product, a "Synthetic" spray wax that is not as highly-rated.

Turtle Wax products sure have come a long way since the old days.

AncientCityFRS 01-12-2015 01:19 PM

A week after I bought my Release 1.0 I applied Blackfire Wet Diamond paint protection and then a few weeks later I used Chemical Guys XXX Hardcore Carnauba Paste Wax. I'm very happy with the results. Should be good until Spring.

I use menzerna powerlock with great results.

M23 01-12-2015 05:22 PM

I used to be a Meguair's user (good stuff too)...then I switched to Optimum (quality stuff that really works).

Now, Optimum is my fave brand..for almost everything - ONR, OPC, OCW, Hyper Polish/Compound, Leather Cleaner/Conditioner, etc.

I first started with ONR, loved it and was impressed... then tried, OCW, loved that too and was amazed by both of those products. Then, I tried one more of their diff products, a new one to me, one after the other, and it was always the same result - I always got surprised how each product I've newly tested, amazed me and impressed me. Very weird for a company to come out with not just 1 or 2 very good products, but almost all their products are impressive (their claybar alternative, however, sucks).

The only thing I get that's not Optimum is the Nanoskin Autoscrub sponges/towels. Probably the best claybar currently (for ease/quickness of use, tactile response and reusability).

That's all you need :)
