2012 is too long of a wait

Are any of you guys deciding on skipping this car because i am, i would have hoped for a 2011 (early) but this isn't going to happen.

I want a new car because my civic is done for this winter(beater).

I have decided to buy a Nissan 370z, a bit pricey and heavy but still a very nice car.

Good bye to all you guys and i hope you guys enjoy this car although a long wait.

I will still visit time to time, :bonk:

mockngbrd 03-03-2010 04:37 AM

2012s ok for me. means it'll be out by end 2011.
gives me some time to save up more $$$$$$

Matador 03-03-2010 08:18 AM

Mid 2011-early 2012 is fine for me. Just hope that no-one beats them to market to tempt me into buying something else.

fernan2 03-03-2010 10:04 AM

im going to wait a few month and then buy an 2004 or 2005 s2000, cuz i cant wait that long for a car!

ichitaka05 03-03-2010 10:12 AM

2012 is too long? Ha! I'm still waiting for Subie to make coupe Impreza... & last coupe they made was '01. Waiting for 1~2 yrs isn't pain at all. Like someone said, it gives me time to save up some time for money. Fat down payment & upgrade parts money~

verlumpt 03-03-2010 11:10 AM

good things come to those who wait.

e10rice 03-03-2010 11:10 AM

The two year wait isnt that bad. My problem is the time when it actually does come out. My current car will be paid off in june, so no car payments till then, but I will have been married for 5 years when i comes out and i told my wife we could start trying to have kids after 5 years. So now i'll look like a jerk to the family for: 1. Getting a new car when i should be saving for the baby. 2. For getting a coupe when i should be getting a four door. :mad0259: This is the only reason i'm second guessing getting the car but i really want it and will probably just get it anyways and tell the family to worry about themselves not my car choice.

At least the 86 has backseats! They're big enough for child seats and small children.

From one father to a prospective one, the FT-86 isn't for you. No matter how much you want it. practical it won't be. Even coupes are a pain w/ child seats. Trust me.

If you want a fun saloon/sedan. look at used BMW's, tons of options.

GL w/ father hood.

ack154 03-03-2010 12:34 PM

I really want to wait for more detail. Is it going to be a 2012 model with production in 2011 like originally rumored? Or are the starting production in 2012? That would make a big difference in my mind...

I can't make a decision yet on waiting.

Pardon me but I never understood these kinds of posts. You say good bye yet you say you are going to visit from time to time!?!

Which one is it? :23:

IMHO, 2 yrs is not a long time to wait and after 2012, the FT is only going to keep getting better and better with minor refinements and slight body changes.

well i have saved up $25,000 Canadian and was thinking of buying this car with one cheque but i have never had a new car, only used old cars and i am tired of driving them.

I was hoping a 2011 2Q production at the latest but it's not going to happen.

I will be putting a $25,000 down payment on the 2010 370z (financed)

OldSkoolToys 03-03-2010 03:24 PM

waiting is the easy part.

Saving money is the hard part.

My thoughts exactly.:)
I definitely want to put a sizable down payment on this car.

Midship Runabout 03-03-2010 04:24 PM

really so waiting 10+ years for toyota to come out with something cool, you cant wait another year and a half :sigh:

blacknbean 03-03-2010 04:42 PM

for me i need a car this yr. 2 yrs is way too long to wait. plus im not the type of person that pays a premium to be the first one one the block with the new model, so ill have to wait another 4-6 months for the hype and price to come down.

i dont think ive ever been so excited about a car thats coming out so far away tho. its almost cruel of toyota to push this out so long. ugh

LMAO!! Must be kidding on the Toyota is cruel to push it out so long. How bout GT-R R35. Nissan show the R35 concept car in '01 at the TAS (iirc), but took em another 6 yrs (for JP and 7 yrs for US) to actually bring out the official GT-R.

RRnold 03-03-2010 05:27 PM

^ I agree! 2 yrs is not a bad thing! They can take how ever long they want as long as they get it right.

Besides, the world is supposed to end on Dec 21, 2012 so we have to make sure we get one before then! ;)

Infernal 03-03-2010 06:02 PM

2 years is a bad thing for me :( ive currently got some piece of junk 2003 GM mobile... hoping to sell that and get a UK spec Twin turbo supra in the mean-time (if i get a nearby job) if my job is further away ill be getting a lexus is250

VenomRush 03-03-2010 06:30 PM

2012 is fine for me. I wont graduate college till May 2011 so it give me time to find a real job before hand

Gost 03-03-2010 10:22 PM

get a bike for now.

shaX 07 03-03-2010 11:49 PM

I kinda wish it was coming out Spring 2011, I will have my truck paid off sometime this year and will be able to save additional moneys along the way for an FT-86 down payment. I will continue to wait on making any moves until we see some official specs on the car. If turns out to be $25k and as slow as the Gen Coupe 2.0t than i'll buy something different but if it turns out to be what they claim it will than i'll keep waiting.

I_AM 03-04-2010 10:33 AM

and then...TOYOTA terminates the ft-86 project!!! then the world does end in 2012?!?!!?

kind of off topic here but the world will not end in 2012. stop being so naive and listening to whatever the internet tells you.

NASA already claimed that they see nothing ANYWHERE around earth thats coming toward us. If there was, they would have seen it LONG ago

Nemesis 03-05-2010 01:20 AM

Take some advise from a guy that waited 2 years for his sky redline (opel speedster for those across the pond). It won't be all sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the day. A year prior to the showroom date which is apparently in early 2012(I would assume january) we will all be scrambling for our local toyota dealerships to get on waiting lists to insure we don't miss out and get charged ridiculous fees. By then, they will have shown the final version of the FT-86 and "leaked out" interior options, exterior paint colors, optional packages and different versions. Toyota still has plenty of things to throw at us to keep us going over the next few years. So sit back, keep your typing hands warm, and enjoy.

yes off topic somewhat. I in no way believe that the world will end in 2012. they said the would would end a million times already and we're still here. but the world would end for many if they keep pushing back to production of the ft-86. i might go buy a mr2 while i wait.

Are you saying you'd buy the car without driving it first?

Not sure if I could do it, no matter how great it sounds.. I think i'd have to drive it first.. The only cars I ever bought without driving were inexpensive and of which I wasn't buying purely for the driving experience, but I would have to drive a car like this, especially something new, before dropping the $20k...

Well there are plenty of people who buy cars without test driving them. Say for example the new Civic Si released back in 2006, you couldn't even test drive them because they were all pre-ordered long back. Each manufacture has their own hardcore fans. They know what they are buying and the potential of the machine. (At least I hope so lol)

It doesn't work quite like that. When you get on a waiting list you put down a set amount (the sky redline required $1000). When your number comes up you have the option of ordering or passing. If you order, then you automatically forfeit your $1k. You can still reject the car when it gets to the dealership and test drive it, but you lose the $1k.

That'd be a tough decision. I'm not sure I even want the first year, I don't even upgrade my OS until they hammer out kinks and all.. buuuuuuut I really want this car.
