GrimmSpeed BRZ Measuring Session - Anyone need any random measurements?

Tuesday morning we are scheduled to have a BRZ for the day to do reverse engineering, data acquisition, etc. Since we will have all of our equipment set up already, are there any specific random measurements anyone needs?

We'd be more than happy to get them for you even if it is just out of curiosity.

Mr Grimm,
If you would be kind enough to find out the front brake rotor diameter it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
cs.

madfast 04-01-2012 02:55 AM

The distance between the block and the bottom of the hood, and the distance between the intake manifold and the bottom of hood. i want to see if there is any way someone can fit a Roots SC under the hood using a design like this:

please take plenty of pics of the car and things of interest to you and us as far as it relates to mods.

Ground clearance?

Here is a random measurement I am wondering, distance of bottom edge of door from ground when open. I have to park by some relatively high curbs and I have had the passenger door scrape on my car which is mildly lowered.

dookie11 04-01-2012 06:06 AM

Can you measure the distance between the floor and the underside of the carseats? I wanna know how high you can raise the seat. Cuz I remember my feet got smashed if I sat in the backseats. Not sure if the seat height was lowered or not though.

Thx! RANDOM, right? LOL

+1 on this. Interested in eventually Rallyxing the car and curious about any underbody features/attachment points for cladding/protection. Lots of under carriage pics in all sorts of angles please! (exhaust routing, drive shaft, suspension, etc.) Also, not sure if possible, measurement of wheel well inside diameter and/or suspension travel. Basically, how tall of a tire can I go (with the intent of adding some more ground clearance) with out scraping/bottoming out.

LUG Pattern 5x100 or 5x114

wow.. 5x100... confirmed... multiple times... like... really.

Future 04-01-2012 09:04 AM

Personally, I'd love to have the exact distance between the wheels and the fenders, hub and fender and suspension to fender.

neutron256 04-01-2012 09:31 AM

I'd like exact measurements for the small storage spot in the console under the HVAC controls between the start button and the AUX input. I have an idea for a phone holder mount that doesn't require drilling into anything.

You Australians are far too polite - move your country next to the US for a while and watch that change pretty quickly! :bellyroll:

Do we know the stock wheel weight?

Slartibartfast 04-01-2012 10:52 AM

+1 on the brake measurements. Front and rear please, and if possible, the weight of the whole system(rotors and calipers). I've been talking with Miguel at Wilwood, he said they are working on a BBK for the FR-S which is six piston front and four piston rear. I think this is a bit of overkill. My only concern with going with a BBK is unsprung weight.

Thanks in advance.

I know that this following request has nothing to do with measuring but I would love to know what electrical modifications have to be made to swap the headlights to the JDM GT86 headlights(fuses, wiring,etc.). I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it is zero.

Silverpike 04-01-2012 03:30 PM

If you could please determine if Impreza camber plates will fit the BRZ, I would be thrilled. The dimensions look the same from photos.

S2kphile 04-01-2012 03:35 PM

Ground clearance please? I wanna know if i'm gonna curb my front bumper, etc on these shitty San Frisko roads.

Evil86 04-01-2012 03:39 PM

wheel width, diameter and offset. Swaybar diameter. Spring rates. Overall vehicle weight and % front and rear. Engine torque curve. Center of gravity and roll center heights for front and rear.

Allch Chcar 04-01-2012 04:05 PM

If you could get the differential size,(I'm forgetting the measurement ATM, but I'm thinking of the axle(in MM) for durability purposes and not the diff housing), the rear axle diameter, and would you please confirm the transmission model(w/ pics if you can). I would very much appreciate it.:thanks:

alexmotrix 04-01-2012 07:09 PM

every specs for brakes, caliper mounting bracket on the Hub, wheel bearing mounting bolt pattern to the Hub, ABS speed sensor position

remove the inner tie-rod ends to see if we can fit some spacers on inner tie-rod ends like many companies sell for Nissan S models and AE86, that gives us more steering angle for drift purpose, for really cheap, you only have to remove one inner tie-rod end and move the steering rack for it to enter inside the steering rack, it should give an idea if a spacer can be fitted

thank you very much

FIREISFUN135 04-01-2012 07:40 PM

Overall size of the engine bay.

GrimmSpeed 04-02-2012 01:08 AM

Ok, will do guys. We will keep a list of these and anymore that get posted up. We will try to get to as many of them as possible.

+1 on wheel gap (tires to fender)

Sasquachulator 04-02-2012 03:22 AM

Another one for Ground clearance.

Hate getting my ass kicked by speedbumps. Plus to compare with my current ground clearance (which any lower and i wuld probably hate it)

Dave-ROR 04-02-2012 03:39 AM

5.9" for ground clearance I thought?

Getagrip 04-02-2012 04:58 AM

Would like the measurements of the inside of the front tire to the front spring/perch/strut (whatever is closest to the tire) and the measurement from the outside of the tire to the inside of the fender lip. Obviously i would like to calculate tire width and offset limits. Also could this be done for the rear?

Thought it was 4.9". Hoping it is 5.9" though.

Pablo 04-02-2012 06:20 AM

Thottle body size would be good to know, and standard exhaust diameter.

joe 04-02-2012 06:26 AM

Length of header tubes to their merges, please and thank you. Internal diameters, too, if you're allowed to take them off, otherwise OD and a rough guess at the wall thickness?

Thanks.

130 mm according to Subaru website at JP. That is 5.1".

最低地上高(mm) 130 <== minimum ground clearance.

S2kphile 04-02-2012 12:34 PM

Typical interior measurements. Need to know how many bitches I can take for a ride. ;)

I believe we've already got those. I know this because I remember seeing them and commenting on the rear leg room which is 29.3", as tight as a 240sx back seat.

I'm saying the rest of the measurements are around here...somewhere. :bellyroll:

Please throw your 12 WRX rims on the front and confirm if the 235/17's have any inside rub issues. I have a set lined up to mount DOT R's on. Thanks Justin. I will call you with a couple of other ideas

Cheers, Cullen
