Trade-in with Clint from HeubergerMotors

Has anyone bought a BRZ from Clint and did a trade-in? How was the trade in value(fair?) and the process?

Thanks!

I traded in my car with Clint without an issue. I sent him a few pictures and told him options/mileage/year/VIN/etc and he gave me a quote based on the details.

It was a cautionary quote (IE: if I didn't misrepresent it, there wasn't engine trouble, etc), but something to start with. The price he gave me was very reasonable and better than any of the stealerships around here. I probably could have sold it a bit more private market, but who couldn't?

Once I got to CO springs with the car, they inspected it and confirmed the quote he gave me originally and I was on my way. Super simple, no gimmicks. Clint doesn't screw around with you :)

Awesome! Do u mind sharing if your quote was better or worst than KBB?

Thanks.

For the 'trade in' value that KBB shows, it was relatively close. Given the benefits you get on tax with the trade-in, I lost only a few hundred dollars compared to selling it private party. For reference, my old car I traded in for nearly half the value of the BRZ.

I wish I got tax benefits for trading in. :(

Also remember I DO Not take KBB as that is a West Coast buying guide. we use NADA guides. Also to compare apples with apples your KBB for a BRZ is what you're paying in CA.

Best

No tax benefits? Don't most states allow you to deduct the trade-in value from the taxable amount? Unless there's no sales tax on your state for cars...

Overall, the hassle of trying to sell my car private party wasn't worth it to me. And, given I'd have to have sold it at an almost idealized price, I'd say I came out ahead :)

In CA, we definitely pay sales tax (8% in my county), but receive no tax benefit when trading in a car. They don't allow the trade in value to be deducted from the taxable amount. Rule of thumb here when purchasing a car is to add about 12% to the price of the car to determine the total purchase price.

Maryland does not tax the amount taken off the purchase price from the trade. You have presumably already paid taxes on the vehicle you are trading in, so you aren't double-taxed.

That's why Maryland is better. How's the job market out there? :D

I REALLY want to buy my BRZ in the Spring from Clint because I heard he's great to deal with, offers good prices, and the stealerships around me are complete assholes. But Im afraid of buying a car... across the country.

Out if 111 BRZS I've sold only 1 has been local,... Mostly all shipped to CA -- NY

Spc- some people fly in and pick it up and get the break in over with. If I went brz instead of frs I would of went with him. But didn't know about this forum at time of purchase and the only sub dealer was a complete **** and Toyota dealer was awesome

I was apprehensive at first, but I realised the situation is similar to how we felt when Amazon first started selling electronics. We kept visiting our local Radioshack or Best Buy out of habit but on Amazon there was no mark up, no waiting for a sale or coupon, no sales associates trying to sell you extended warranty on your new mouse.

My paper work with Clint took 2 days and I am 1500 miles away. My local dealer took 4 business days to give me a quote after my test drive...

spc2125 09-19-2013 09:32 AM

Stop it everyone! Your making it too easy for me! I convinced myself i was going to buy in the spring, but now I want it now! Ugh!

Clint, two questions. Do you think if i waited till next spring to get my BRZ that the price on the 2013 models will go down? Will it be harder to find a 2013 WRB limited manual next spring?

And this might be completely insane but you dont take trade-ins unless i drive my car out to you right?
I actually have two. 2005 Subaru Outback limited 2.5i. And 2006 Spec b.

nitewolfgtr 09-19-2013 09:43 AM

I'm also interested in how trade-in process works. I have a car I would like to trade-in. Also need to learn how to drive a manual before I buy one ;)

I can vouch for this. I'm currently doing the paperwork with Clint, and it's a breeze.

The finance lady is incredibly nice and honest, she explained everything, didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want, very fast and simple. It was literally a 7 minute call with finance.

They sent the papers overnight with an overnight return envelope, so basically it takes 2 days. It's very fast and simple.

I highly doubt I'd have any 13's to spare. ;-(

Grrr.

Are there any options that we could add on to the car before you ship?
Tint?
Clear bra?
Short throw shifter?

Or is there a link you could send me to that would better answer a lot of these questions so its easier for you :)

Yes to all but SS

spc2125 09-24-2013 12:12 AM

Clint, say I was to buy from you next spring... which is what im leaning towards, what would I do if I had problems with the car? Can I go to any Subaru dealership for warranty repairs and such?

Just curious because so many people are reporting different noises and problems.

Also, do you have pricing on the clear bra?

tonylop33 09-24-2013 12:27 AM

Warranty and service can be done at any Subaru Dealer.
