IF you wish to participate in this group buy, you MUST pm me your first and last name (so we can determine whos serious about this), and contact phone # AND EMAIL!!. Ill add your intiitals beside your username in the respective list.

Also, if you plan on buying this car within the next year or two, put your name down. Might be able to run future group buys from this thread too!

A bunch of members already benefitted from this. Deposits put down + Bills of Sale signed. If you want the deal as well, round two is now open. Since i got in on round one, i wont be as involved in round two, but rather just help you guys communicate.

If you're from somewhere farther than the GTA such as Ottawa OR Windsor, this still may be worth it for you.

HOW THIS WILL WORK
Again, borrowing from the SoCal Group buy thread, I'll have a savings code. When the deal is solidified, we'll be running different time frames to actually go in and lay down a deposit/sign papers so that we can show the dealership we have volume! When the time comes, Ill call or send out a text message to everyone along with a PM. Those who reply back to me will get the savings code. With that we can go and get our discouts $_$. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SAVINGS CODE, DO NOT GO AND PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT YET

Can i get servicing/warranty at a different dealership?
Yep. You can service your car where-ever you want, and get warranty work done by any dealership you want. This way if you're from northern ontario, you dont have to drive into toronto everytime :)

Is there financing?
Yep. Just confirmed if you need financing; they'll provide it.

Trade-ins?
Yep. Dealership(s) love old cars

If Scion Canada comes out with an incentive, does it apply to us?
All incentives passed down from Scion Canada apply to this deal as well!

When do the cars arrive?
Time is unknown and not guaranteed. However, the more preorders a dealership has, the faster they'll get their cars. Should be June - July through this group buy.

If we can get the 5% + $500 graduate discount then count me in!

ahquit 04-01-2012 09:15 PM

I like the idea, but have a few questions:

Which dealership is offering this?

How many people did they say they would need before offering a discount?

Do they know when actual orders can be placed? (rather than a list at the dealership)

If the group buy is at one dealership, wouldn't that burn through the dealer's inventory allotted for this year and mean it would actually take longer to deliver to the people in the group buy? (versus dispersing the orders among a few dealerships)

Ive spoken to four dealerships now. Only one General manager has denied me so far - wietzes toyota in vaughn due to them already having 5 deposits put down (out of a total of 19 cars allocated for this year).

One dealership, Don Valley North Scion, which is one of the biggest scion dealerships in the GTA, said that if we had the numbers; they would be able to order more than their allocation due to their high volume. They only had three preorders so far.

Another one (i think it was downtown toyota or toyota on front) just told me "dont worry about it, i'll get you the # of vehicles you need" lol.

Anyways, the dealership that is the most enthusiastic about this is Ken Shaw Lexus/toyota. They have 0 pre-orders so far (which is strange cus they're a pretty big dealership) and are pretty anxious about getting some scion customers. Their guy told me as soon as the release date is announced, we can order. We do need 10 people to get any kind of a significant discount from them though.

So far, from the looks of it; dealerships can ask for extra cars if there's demand for it. Those that have bigger pre-order lists are more reluctant to offer this group buy because they seem to be more confident that they can sell their cars at mrsp or above.

Put me down... have a pre-order in at Woodbridge Toyota... have you approached them?

OK that is interesting because the Shaw Scion brand manager told me on the phone that they had 3 deposits already and only had an allocation of 5 coming in. Someone is playing fast and loose with the truth there - I would be cautious dealing with them. And I doubt you would really need 10 buyers or no sale - probably 6 or 7 would make it worth their while.

That said I would be interested in a group buy subject to a test drive. Also I'll need to know insurance costs before committing.

Oh wow... if thats the case then looks like theres some snake business going on. I have an email from the dude saying that I would be the first to put a deposit down on a car (a day ago). Looks like we need to stay away from there...

I'm with you on this, if its a refundable deposit subject to test drive and the dealer can actually place an order with Toyota, then I'm in.

Insurance I'm not sure about, I guess we'll have to use comparables for now to estimate (v6 mustang, gen coupe, veloster).

Did the dealer give any sort of deadline to confirm buyers by?

No deadline given because we dont even have a group discount set in stone. Right now its a numbers game. Once we get more numbers we use that as leverage... then from there we'll set all the conditions in stone.

ahquit 04-02-2012 01:20 PM

Was there any mention of preferable financing rates? The default rates on the website seems to be 5.15% @ 72 months, 2.9% @ 48 months, etc.

rawbz 04-02-2012 01:43 PM

I'd be interested as well subject to test drive! 4 to 5% discount would be pretty good actually if canada does that whole pure pricing thing as well?

Not everyone will need financing - the group buy price has to be set on a level playing field so those not requiring financing aren't subsidizing those that do.

Group Buy

Hey guys,

I already put a deposit down in Brimell Toyota but I'm willing to do the group buy. So I am interested. Thanks.

Veovius 04-02-2012 03:41 PM

Tempting, but I'm more interested in the BRZ....

Until you see the price, their low production numbers (and WRX pricing) suggest the markup here will be truly nasty.

If that's the case then they shouldn't offer discounts on accessories since not everyone needs those either. I guess what I'm saying is that financing is another product available for purchase, so it can't at least hurt to ask the question. If it comes down to having to choose one or the other, then in the immortal words of Spock, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" :)

veewonwon 04-02-2012 06:53 PM

I'm definitely interested in this, do need a test drive to confirm, otherwise all good.

Model: FR-S 6MT
Finance: lease/finance depends on rates or cash
Insurance: no issue
Colour: red or white
Options interested: HID, fog lights if available, and price.

fungkaic 04-03-2012 02:14 AM

Hi All,

I really like this idea of group buy. However, I am concerning about the logistic of buying this car. Assuming we get say 10 people and ONE dealer agreed to make this deal, each one of us has different preference on the car. Let assume the dealer give us 5% discount on the car, we still need to take other service from the dealer. For example, I want a corrosion coding on my car. This option is commonly offered in Dow Valley North Toyota and can be free if you negotiated for it. Some of you may think its unnecessary. With this group buy, would we pay for other services that eventually make this offer less valuable?

May I propose that we get ONE dealer, who is willing to do this deal. The dealer gives us the code to take this advantage, ie to show that we are buying as a group. Also we don't have to show up all together. In the meantime, we can still take advantage of the deal.

Standard options and their pricing are not my concern, as $1300 off is a really good discount.

I do agree that Don Valley would be a tough dealer to offer discount, as they are big and gets traffic. However, they do offer pretty good customers service both in sales and replacement service for defects in cars (Camry). We can, I suggest we go with this dealer.

I am up for this group buy, condition on test drive and insurance, which can be a bitch.

Thank you for initiating this effect.

If dealers are willing to give a total discount of say 5% then if they discount the financing to for example 1/2 the buyers in our group they will only be able to offer say a 4% discount to those of us who want to pay cash in order to make up the difference - that is the problem. Everyone needs to get the same monetary value on the discount, regardless of options/financing chosen.

Useful advice from Dimman in the Vancouver buy thread:
Quote:

Plus make sure everyone is financially sorted and serious. If it goes from 7 to 3 people right at the beginning because of credit issues, or people not being as interested as they say the sales reps won't be as flexible.

And don't let them **** around with fees and such. Or 'policy'. EVERYTHING is negotiable, and they also make some 'hidden' money on sales as well (in terms of overall performance, etc...).

7 sales to a single rep in one day is HUGE. Always remind the rep that you know how big of a deal this is to them.

If anyone has info on how their commissions work that would be handy ahead of time too.

Dimman 04-03-2012 04:30 PM

^ Also think about what I said about friends/family/random strangers interested in other Scion (or Subaru depending) models that can all be grouped in at one dealer.

Sport-Tech 04-06-2012 01:33 PM

It looks like this group is DOA...

Saibot 04-06-2012 02:09 PM

time to inject some life into this :)

People whos actually serious about this, PM me your first and last name and phone #. Ill be adding your initials beside the list so that we know whos a flaker or not.

Sport-Tech 04-06-2012 03:48 PM

I am just waiting to hear on BRZ pricing before making a commitment - if the premium over the FR-S is as little as it is in the US I may go Subie, despite the missing colours and the silver-painted dash.

kinda ironic with a username like that, no?

Just need a solid commitment from a dealership. I'm waiting on a few to get back to us still, but i wouldnt mind exploring other options.

So far the dealerships ive contacted:

Simon (salesperson) - don valley north scion
  • Enthusiastic, but their dealership has a few pre-orders already. May not be able to provide much of a deal.
Tom Vu (salesperson) - ken shaw lexus/scion
  • Has promised he could work something out. Waiting to hear back.
General Manager at - Weitzes Scion
  • Forgot his name...
  • Said a group buy from his dealership was unlikely to provide any kind of benefit to us.
Jason Zhang (sales manager) - Toyota on Front
  • Told me he'd take care of everything we needed in terms of how many cars we want, accessories (even if we clear out his entire inventory).
  • Very willing to work something out.
If you want and/or are able to call other dealerships to see what they can work out, that would be great :party0038:.

Aznek 04-06-2012 09:25 PM

PM Sent.

That Jason Zhang guy seems like our best bet, I wonder what kind of numbers he's expecting us to bring.

I plan on purchasing a manual and I've only driven manual vehicles for something like 30 minutes in total. It's gonna be scary getting it home from Toronto 0_0. Might have to get a good friend to drive it home for me :)

Yeah, I thought someone might call me on that. Who knows, may have to choose a new username at some point.

But I spent an absurd amount of time today looking through BRZ photos to make a colour choice and I am just not liking any of the limited BRZ options we're getting here so I am still very unlikely to go that route. Especially if we get a good group buy discount.

I preordered mine in Markham mid march

wheeladdict 04-07-2012 12:43 PM

FYI, I have contacted principal who owns two dealerships and he has expressed interest in the deal.

best,
WA

Aznek 04-07-2012 02:05 PM

Hey guys,

For those that are serious about the purchase, could we also include in the list the package/colour/transmission everyone would be interested in?

Mine is Basic / Dark Gray Metallica / Manual.

ahquit 04-07-2012 02:20 PM

I'm looking for a whiteout/manual. Depending on which TRD accessory options scion brings in, I'd also like the TRD duckbill spoiler at least.

Aznek 04-07-2012 04:56 PM

I spoke with Nick Heffner.

He says with 5 confirmed he can offer $500 off each individual vehicle. Let's hope we can get some more confirmations or one of the other dealers offers something better because $500 is no 5% haha. Not sure how getting 10 pre-orders would scale it up to 5%, who told you 4-5% OP? (PM me the answer if you don't want to say in here)

He also has the following to say about the head unit upgrades "The head unit upgrade is $515. The upgraded head unit is more powerful (200 watts instead of 160), touchscreen, more customizable in terms of bass and trebel levels and includes integrated blutooth.". Too much for something without navigation if you ask me, I'm inclined to get an aftermarket double-din unit with navigation for a little more.
