Have a tire pressure gauge you really like?
 

I have 3 tire pressure gauges - two built into pumps and a handheld cheap one. The cheap one is hard to read and I don't trust it because it's just that cheap. I was just reading the tire pressure thread and it reminded me I've been meaning to buy a reliable gauge that's easy to read specific numbers, and preferably has a 90° connector so it's easy to use on bicycles too.

So does anyone have a gauge they realized was a really good buy after having it for a while?

Not cheap, but I bought a Longacre Magnum several years ago, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a better analog gauge - unless it's another Longacre for twice as much money. The large face makes it easy to dial in pressures in less than 1psi increments. Since it is analog, no batteries to worry about, and it has a glow in the dark face. Plus it comes with a nice metal storage case.

Hell yeah. I'll be considering this one as my number one choice until and if someone recommends another one. I suppose it's good quality, huh? I totally don't mind dropping $80 on a badass gauge for my whole life.

Very good quality. I worked as a tire man for a Grand Am team last summer (setting pressures for all their tires - on a three car team), and they were using the same gauges. So if it's good enough for a professional race team, it's good enough for us amateurs. I've been using mine for at least five years now, after getting tired of the $20 ones that would read 3psi different, for the exact same model.

Aw man, I just realized they stop at 60 psi. I need one that goes to at least 110 for my bicycle. Preferably 120 just to have some room. That's not a deal breaker though, my bike's pressure isn't that important. This would be great for my car.

Use a different gauge for your bicycle. The error ranges are maximum at the ends of the pressure ranges. Accuracy for your car will be poor if you try to use a bicycle pressure gauge.

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago, it works great.

I use high pressure pencil type gauges for bikes.

Tested it against a buddy's $100 analog gauge, and it was spot on.

0-60 PSI. Perfect for car tire pressures since you're usually around the middle. The gauge is less accurate at the maximum and minimum ranges.

There's a pressure release valve to relieve air without having to "reset" the gauge. This is really important if you take your car to the track because it will save you time. Almost everyone will run without the valve stem cover to save even more time.

Only thing I wish it had was a dial that could rotate 360 degrees. Not a deal breaker. It's usually reserved for more expensive gauges.

I have a similar Longacre one. If you go on Longacres site you can find a list of refurb/blemish items for a decent discount. They won't sell anything which isn't mechanically sound.

I use this as well. Very easy to use and consistent.

I've had this 3.5" Intercomp and 4" Longacre model for maybe 6-7 years. It doesn't look like Intercomp makes a 3.5" version now but both of these have been great. As mentioned by @neurokinetik , the Longacre comes in a cushioned box which makes it great for throwing in a larger box for track day stuff (without it getting damaged).

If you want something precise, check the specs for accuracy. For sizing, I like the 4" but 3.5" works well too.

I cheated. I work at a chemical plant and I got a nice stainless 3" 0-60 psi gauge, and then had our instrument department calibrate it. I take it back every so often so they can check it and adjust it if necessary....:)

I use a free one from America's Tire.

Mechanical is ultra consistent, and it was free too boot.

I do check it against an "expensive" gauge fairly often to make sure it's still accurate, and it has yet to fail me after a few years.

It can be found in most local auto stores. Very easy to read and the bleed/reset valve is handy.

Definitely check any gauge against a few others. They can be all over the place.

That exact gauge is one of the ones I've had where there can be a 3-5psi variation from gauge to gauge. I supposed it can be ok as long as you ONLY use that one gauge, but if you ever have to borrow one from somebody else, you may find that the readings are quite different. My first one of these died after only a couple of years, too.

We use and sell both Intercomp and Longacre air pressure gauges. Never had issues.

Couple things that I feel helps is...
- Swivel chuck
- big easy to read gauge
- pressure hold
- glow in the dark is a nice feature... It was a nice feature to have when we had to check our trailer tire pressure in a dark parking lot. I can imagine this can assist in a dark garage...etc.

the mechanical ones you get at gas stations and what not are ok, but on certain wheels - it's difficult to secure properly.
