I can officially call it a Toyota!

As with most people here we wish our cars were branded Toyota not Scion. Sure I changed my badges but when someone asked what the car was I always said a Scion FR-S since that what it is :/ I was on the phone with my insurance agent last night and when she asked which car I was calling about I said the Scion to which she replied "do you mean the Toyota?". Well after looking at my registration and talking to my insurance agent they both consider this car a TOYOTA FR-S!

So that is it, I am dropping the Scion name :P (Don't take this thread to seriously I just thought it was silly)

SillySaxon 09-06-2013 10:32 AM

Well, to be technically correct it would be a Toyobaru right?

Pele86 09-06-2013 10:34 AM

Lol a cop pulled me over one time and just cited me a warning for my front plate. He also labeled my car as a toyota fr-s.

I just recently got pulled over and on the ticket he labeled the make as Toyota and the model as Scion...so apparently there is a car that Toyota makes called the Scion

SupraRon 09-06-2013 10:49 AM

This is how the FR-S is listed in the MTO system.

phloozy 09-06-2013 11:01 AM

even more evidence!

BANGER 09-06-2013 11:14 AM

Still not a GT86. :slap:
:D

I'll consider it the base model :P

Mandy 09-06-2013 11:19 AM

On the registration it reads:

Make: "Toyota" Model: "Scion FR-S"

I didn't realize this was news though.

I was never sure if Scion was treated the same way as Lexus. Lexus is also made by Toyota but are not labeled Toyotas

Turbowned 09-06-2013 11:27 AM

It's not a true GT86 until you spend the 800 buckos on the steering wheel airbag cover ;)

I may actually be going to japan sometime next year after I get some vacation time. I just now thought that maybe I can pick one up while I'm there and ship it back, it'd probably be a little complicated having it as checked luggage with the airbag that could..well..explode

It has nothing to do with self esteem. The brand is targeted to a demographic i am not a part of so I dont really enjoy representing it. If it really bothered me and I had low self esteem I wouldn't have bought the car.

So? If you bought an SUV does that turn you into a Soccer mom? It bothered you enough to want to belong in the other category enough that you thought it was fulfilling the insurance company called it a Toyota...lol. Sounds like low self-esteem to me, but whatever floats your boat.

More like a Subaru....with a Toyota fuel delivery system (that happens to be the only crappy part of the vehicle.)

Oh snap, I live between San Antonio and Boerne... Where did you get pulled over? I still don't have a front plate. SAPD and Boerne PD haven't seemed to look, but Bexar County deputies have definitely stared at the front of my car a few times...

On topic, the dealership I got my car from called mine a Subaru on the paperwork, and we had to redo it... How does a Toyota dealership call their own car a Subaru? haha

Drive a Scion = Associated with that demographic (your assumption)

Drive an SUV = Associated with soccer mom's or the like.

Assumptions on both parts. SUV assumption sounds as dumb to you as the Scion assumption does to me.

joop1987 09-06-2013 12:55 PM

My registration also says Make: Toyota, Model: Scion

Yes you could call the FR-S a "G" model as a lot of people don't know there's 4 trim levels in Japan.;)

More like a Toyota as Subaru doesn't own this platform.
Toyota owns this car and the rights to it and yes my title states it's a Toyota.

this was SAPD that pulled me over over on the west side. no one seems to care about it, but this guy did. honestly I think he just wanted to look at the car and it was a good reason to stop me because he was really interested in it asking me all these questions about it and what not.

Why are you even on this forum? Everything you ever type up is negative. The OP even said "don't take this seriously". Just calm down and see the humor of this.

One more thing, Toyota made the Scion brand for a specific demographic (young drivers). This shouldn't be news to you...

A Toyota it is then!!

I had not really thought about it before this thread, but my cousin (CHP) also said it is a Toyota FR-S.

All Good Then!

Actually the Scion is very close the GT-86, almost exact on body style with a more spartan interior.
If you do some interior modding it is an 86, I'd say a lot more Toyota than Subaru

When he ran your registration, it popped up as a Toyota. Most states label them as Toyotas when registering them.

Lol I got pulled over a few years ago in my scion tc and the cop had my car listed as Toyota on the ticket... Lol

Not sure if serious:slap:

Toyota designed it.. Subaru engineered it and builds it at the subi plant.. And the one car that has dropped the power rankings of scion down into the gutters.. Because it's a Subaru POS.. My local flat4 page is full of blown up, messed up cars.. Both new and old, both stock and modified.. At least three post a week about how something is broken, wrong, or messed up

That said I love my FRS, but it's still in the process of being badged a GT86

That's a relatively new development for Lexus. When I was in Japan in 99 and 01 every single Lexus model in the US was sold in Japan as a Toyota. They just figured out they could put gold L badges and charge 50% more and Americans would think they were getting a hell of a deal.
