Leather, LEATHER, lol leather
anyone has any recommendations, im thinking on adding leather seats on my car.
Well I would rather get brz limited seats, but those are rare. I want real leather skin covers, and not seat covers. difference? i want to take the cloth out... anyone with experience can recommend me. Katzkin, leather-seats, are some of the manufactures right now. thanks.... |
I don't recommend Katzkin, the quality of their hides is horrible. I've had so many issues with them and people calling less than 2 years later saying their leather looks like shit.
Also, they don't have installation centers, so it's pretty much up to you to find a re-styler with experience, otherwise you end up with those horrible installs that shrink. |
ok cool, installing them is not a problem, ive done them before,
ill keep looking. |
Recaro Pole Position in leather. :D

I'll go with Roadwire, they are actually #1 in the nation, the problem is they are not popular because they don't advertise. Most of their business comes from dealing with dealership and port programs, that's why their quality standard has to be higher (of their leather kits). Roadwire.com Classicsofttrim.com (these guys actually have installation centers) |
This is mine, it's a Designer Series from Roadwire. I haven't ordered yet but I've seen it in person, it looks amazing!.

^ those are beautiful... but $$$$

I second that I rather it not say frs or have the option to stitch Gt-86..
|
that is definitely awesome. Only thing is, would those let they seat airbags deploy. Hmmmm, cant find them on the website.
all they have are the standard pics on the roadwire site |

They don't have it available yet. It's still a "concept". My little secret is that my fiancé designed this one, she is a designer that works for them and other companies. It will be released soon, I was able to see it on a FR-S that will be shown in SEMA I believe, and it looks glorious. The white stripes are actually submerged channels, sort of what you find in the BMW M5 seats. The stitching is red matching the FR-S interior. Check this other one, this one will be available in few weeks as well. This one was also designed by my fiancé and will be sold by Roadwire and Classic Soft Trim. |

All Classic Soft Trim and Roadwire seats have to meet OEM standards of safety. Because they work primarily and directly with OEM brands, and dealerships, then THEY HAVE to meet 100% safety standards specific of every vehicle. That's way they take long to release Designer Series, Sport Series of their patterns, because they test airbags, etc, plus they need to meet the OEM warranty standards that come with every new vehicle, etc. Yeah, their webpage is not very friendly, I believe they just started selling directly to the public. Which is why I also like them, not everyone can have them easily hehe... My BRZ will arrive this month, I can take pictures and show how it looks on it. It will be the same as the concept 5, just will say "BRZ" instead of FR-S. |
actually i love my katzkin seats. they look and feel great. I've had no major problems with mine. Still looks as good as the day they did it. I've had them for over a year so maybe i have to wait another year to see some problems? :P

Go with Roadwires.
Even if you get the chance to go with BRZ Limited seats, don't do it. They are not that great to be honest. Sure, the leather/alacantara combination sounds good on paper, but it's actually worse than cloth, at least in these cars. The alacantara is non-perforated so the material doesn't breathe at all, and that's not good considering MOST of the Limited seats are covered in the material, the leather is minimal. On hot days, even with the air conditioning turned all the way up, your back will get all sweaty and wet because the seat can't breathe. Stick with the standard seats until you can get something that's all leather, or alacantara that will breathe (perforated). |
Some people say roadwire sucks... some say katzkin sucks... hard to know for certain.
|
i honestly haven't seen any other bad reviews about katzkins. There was an frs at a dealer by me that had a katzkins kit installed and it was amazing. it was black with a red insert that went half way up the back of the seat and half way up the bottom cushion. i sat in it and it felt like oem leather. definitely up to the installer though to do it right. i would only let a real upholstery shop do the work. here in NY theres a place called automat that does incredible cosmetic work and repair and they always try to use katzkin when possible

tacoss223,
Do you know pricing on these? The options on the website are $899-$919 I believe, but it doesn't show any decent pics. I know you said these weren't on the site yet, just trying to gauge a price point for them. |

I posted a thread about my experience with the Katzkins with pictures. They were simple enough to install and I had zero experience with interior work. |
Have you considered going to an auto upholsterer? You can usually find a local craftsman to do the work for a descent price.

I wouldn't be able to say their price for the designer series above, I'm expecting to pay around the same though, $900-$1000. I will know whenever my BRZ gets here, I'll be replacing my Seat Heaters with their 3-stage Climate Control Seating at that point as well, so that bill will probably run high lol. |
Well, I'm definitely interested and look forward to seeing them in your car.

My local (best in town) auto upholstery place says they do Katzkins and Roadwire as the 2 kits they put on. This Roadwire concept is very intriguing as I was wanting leather, just the black with the red shoulders. But this concept is NICE, and might be something I'd want...to make my FRS a little different. My compliments to your fiance for the design. Do you know if they are available yet, the website is fairly cryptic since it has no real photos. But they do list another design other than the standard. Maybe that's it? I really like the red shoulders on the stock seats, but I like the red striping and stitching too. Wonder how this would look in the car.... |
I was gonna do leather but here to do full is 2500 bones. Now considering jut getting bride seats as they make some specific to our cars and get benefit of a more comfy purpose made race seat for same cabbage.
|
Another option for you... Works with the airbags an all. Shame they're only front seats.

Well, finally got my car so I'll be getting these seats! My local shop checked with Roadwire and these ARE available, so I'm having them get me the complete set. $1200 installed, front and rear. Cheaper than the dealer, and I can get exactly what I want. Firestorm car, should look nice with these. |
What about Sard Racing Japan covers...
|
Just had leather done in my BRZ, figured some might be interested in the pics. It was done by Classic Soft Trim for $849($899 after tax). highly recommended.

I believe the only parts that are vinyl is the outside portions of the rear seats, and I honestly can't even tell a difference. |
