So I was in Japan...(PIC HEAVY)
 

So I was in Japan and decided to go check out the Toyota 86. And boy does it look amazing in person. The 86 badging on the sides look a LOT better in person. The interior is "alright"..it's very basic, but it would do. Overall, liking the look of it. (The white one was automatic/ red one was manual). The red looked so nice. Oh yeah, and those seats in the back have zero leg room. You can probably only use it for storage or if you have a kid in a baby car seat :thumbdown: BUT this car is meant to be a driver's car so that's fine! :thumbsup: Sorry about the quality, took it with my droid x. :D

Thanks for the pics!! If you think that interior is "alright," I wonder what you'd say about the Scions lol. I wish that interior was in the Scion's! Were you able to test drive it?

The interior was nothing to be astounded by..unfortunately. Now that you mention the Scion, I'm looking at pictures of the Scion and it does look inferior to the 86 :( And no I was not able to test drive it, the two models weren't meant to be test driven.

How was the orange peel on the paint? Seeing quite a bit on the red, little on the white, but that could just be the camera....

Lol. Sorry but I don't know what you're referring to.. I did see some girl stuffed in a trunk in someones signature.
The orange peel is noticeable up close. But most Japanese cars have orange peel. Can't really complain about it. ;)

That JDM stock exhaust is really making me sad about the crummy North American version that we get... :\

I actually didn't realize that the FR-S gets a worse exhaust until you mentioned it just now. :sigh:

So it's really SWP, right? Not flat white like Corolla/Camry flat boring glossy white, right?

how come the 86 have red stitching on the e-brake, frs does not.

Well, the frs is essentially the "G" model of the Toyota 86, which is the second lowest model. This model does not come with those HID headlights and from the brochure I got from them it looks like the e-brake doesn't have red stitching as well. I may decide to scan the brochure I got from them eventually. The "G" model also has worse rims. It comes with 16" rims instead of the 17" that are coming on the FR-S. Actually the "G" model has more than just those differences. My mistake. The exhaust, pedals and stitching are all different from the FR-S to name a few. There are some more subtle differences.

Pretty sure that's the fuse box because it's running an electrical cable from the alternator.

Man, that thing is huge for a fuse box (at least in comparison to mine). Of course there are minimal electronics in a 98 Tib.

Sugoi! I noticed the vanity mirrors are much nicer with lights built in compared to the super cheap and flimsy ones we're going to get with the Scion.

The more I come back to my thread, the more disappointed I get. :sigh: First was how the FRS gets worse exhaust, then it was worse interior. :mad0259:

Um, haven't we known for a while the interior of the BRZ is going to be quite a bit better? :P

I've been looking at the Exhaust TIPS ... the JDM one looks really GOOD..
for some reason the USDM exhaust tip looks smaller and does not fill out
the rear valance ...

anyone else notice ? or am I too OCD about these little things...

I might end up ordering the JDM exhaust tips ...

^ Completely agree. But we may not be able to blame the car companies for this, someone here has said it's due to some US regulation that requires shorter/thinner tips.

That worse exhaust is on ALL NA Tobarus (see above post).

I was a Porsche salesman for a few years. Those cars ALWAYS came in with extremely obvious orange peel. Pretty typical for any mass produced car that is painted by a robot.

Yes, I've known the BRZ gets a lot better interior, but I didn't know how much of a downgrade the FRS is to the 86. The non JDM exhaust tips, the cheaper vanity mirrors, the non stitched e-brake to name a few. Oh well.
Yes the JDM exhaust tips look tons better than the north american exhaust tips that we get. They make the look of the rear a lot better. :thumbsup:
