I will tell you one aspect of BRZ ownership I am NOT looking forward to

Here is what I think is going to be a pain about BRZ ownership. Dealing with all the pricks driving like compete asses around me when I am just trying to enjoy my drive. I can almost see some highway hero damn near rear-ending me because he has to prove... Something. Going off the comments on autoblog, it's like I can almost see the trolls I will have to share the road with. They'll see me and think now is the perfect time to drive like a bastard.

The above scenario also leads to my concern that one of those four-wheeled squids will be dropping revs at me within ear/eyeshot of a cop. The end result being that I would find myself having to explain to Officer Smiley that I have nothing to do with the 23 - 16 year old moron who figured now would be a good time for roadway justice.

As a 31 year old man, I don't care for the possible negative attention. In fact, I had a 1995 GS-R Integra at one point, and while I loved that car, dealing with other people was always an issue.

Anyways, have any of you future BRZ owners thought(s) about this at all?

Always worked for me in my GSX. Or you can slow up and get out of their way if you have to. Make it clear you don't want to act retarded with them.

Very true, and very obvious answer. I just don't want to have to make a post about how my car was hit by some psycho and it starts out with, "So there I was, minding my own business..."

FIREISFUN135 03-29-2012 10:40 PM

Try driving a STi....every high school kid in eg hatch/mustang wants to race you...

Get one of those 'baby on board' signs . . . problem solved. :D

Draco-REX 03-29-2012 10:42 PM

I just shake my head and wave then go about my business. They get bored quickly and zip off to bother someone else.

Don't mean to burst your bubble or anything, but the BRZ isn't that "special" of a car. Frankly, the majority of the people who you'll be sharing the road with won't be able to discern it from the nearest Camry, never mind trying to mess with you just because you drive a hot car. It's nothing personal, you jusy happen to be a victim of a random retard attack. If you check around ANY car forum you'll run into at least one topic of "so there I was minding my own business when..." People with poor driving habits come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and walks of life. There's just no escaping them. You could be in your dad's '99 Solara beater and it wouldn't matter. Some jerk in a (insert vehicle here) will feel the need to assert himself/herself with a 3300+ lb weapon. Best advice would be to try and avoid them at all costs and be the responsible person. If anything, the sooner you let them pass, the sooner you'll be able to go on your merry way at your own merry pace in your merry car.

Capt Canuck 03-29-2012 11:04 PM

Unless you are going to put flames on it or a massive eff-off wing, the BRZ/FRS is going to melt into the mass of rolling metal on the roads.
I like the looks of it, but it is hardly screaming 'race me!'

S2kphile 03-29-2012 11:07 PM

I ignore people like that, when that happens they get bored. The main aspect I'm not looking forward possibly is this becoming the next civic, s2000, integra, etc. The reason being is the thought of it getting stolen as soon as I park it in a public place especially if I have a few modding goodies on it.

That will never happen, it's not a Honda.

Phaedrus29 03-29-2012 11:17 PM

Easy. If straightaway, ignore. If windy road, engage and destroy. Oh wait, you're an old man and want to be "responsible".

I guess there's something wrong with me being 33 and wanting to get in a little trouble. ;)

Enemies 03-29-2012 11:44 PM

Some dude today pulled up to me in a muscle car and kept racing off the line to the next red light. I was like... /headinhand.

AshWilliams 03-29-2012 11:59 PM

We have a blue pearl WRX. No one tries to race it. That kind of behavior has to be provoked.

The thing is I feel exactly as you do - to the letter in fact. The BRZ should be nothing special in that way, but reading some of the almost vindictive comments on the usual car blogs was the reason for my original post. The BRZ isn't for everyone, I get it, but WTF(?!)... some people talked like damned car rolled into their homes and forcibly made them their new step kids.

I figured I'd pose the though to the good folks here, and see what y'all thought.

Being from nova I feel your pain. I swear we have some of the worst drivers on some of the most hectic highways. I just hope this car doesn't attract all the cops my way either.

Hell, I'm not so far gone, brother! I just understand getting into trouble is way better when you don't get caught.

The best impromptu showdowns happen on big sweeping exit ramps. The best thing is murdering the guy next to you, and settling into a nice, easy cruise on the highway. After thirty, or fortyfive seconds the guy flies by, but slows down enough to see who just ate his lunch on the ramp. That's fun :)

whaap 03-30-2012 12:21 AM

Since I never had a problem in my Mustang, Corvette, Miata or 911 I don't expect one of the Toyobaru twins. Many people will probably think it's an unsanforized Genesis.

Somewhere between the first part and the second part, I got confused. :iono:

I really don't see it being a problem with this car. No ridiculous wing, very conservative styling, no hood scoops or really any clues on the exterior about being a super high performance car. Just another sleek, low, handsome coupe on the road.

Despite all the negative comments online, in real life most people don't know anything about cars. They will just see a big wing or a hood scoop or something and make assumptions. The BRZ/FRS have none of those details.

As long as you don't roll up at a set of lights next to someone like this guy I quoted, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Lytheum 03-30-2012 12:56 AM

i love when people try tailgating on those big looping freeway exits. the look of panic when they realize their car or driving skills suck is great.

Okay, so I understood it correctly. We have had quite the turn of events since page one!

This competitive thing during shared road use -- it baffles me. After driving in dense traffic, I am just glad just to get to my destination in one piece!

MisturrHo 03-30-2012 01:19 AM

I'm one of those 23 year old bastards that do like to race. LOOOOL. :bonk:Mentally! hahahhaha, I understand this car doesn't pick up speed that quick, nor that this is an all out "race car". I do however, enjoy overtaking people on the highway. Not cut them off, no, that's just rude, but to overtake them. I at least give them 3-4 car space. I don't do it to piss them off, I do it because I like to get to my destination a bit quicker. I don't do that traffic light drag racing shit. Most retarded IMHO.:mad0260: I don't provoke people to race either, usually they provoke me, so I see where you're coming from. However, that being said, with these ridiculous gas prices rising for this Premium needed car, you can go jet around all you want. I aint burning my hard earned money off like that. I'd save up for other things like a turbo-ed up BRZ just because I'd imagine it feel much more fun. However, that is yet to be determined until I actually drive the car. I'd like to put mods to make it look nice and perhaps people (esp the HS kids) associates that it can race, but I for sure aint burning my gas and risking a new bumper, or worse, my new baby, over some pride and ego against some dude that is ready to go jet around in a car with their daddy's money. If I ever do have those urges, my bike can do that for me. :party0030: Just Sayin. So the solution? Ignoring is probably the easiest. If it was me, I'd look at them and smile and shake my head to show them they're idiots. Who knows, maybe even rev up a little just so they'd peel off if I know there's a potential police spot coming up. :happy0180:

I typically let people pass me and follow them ..
since its better for them to cut the wind for me .. so I can hyper mile.

A tailgating car has a similar effect, if they're really close the tailgating car is actually the one experiencing the most drag hehehe. Funny, because when they start to tailgate I can feel the drag going down and I speed up a little without pressing further on the gas.

I think sometimes it is just the driver's psychological effect.
When people are driving in cars they believe are flashy, unique, or cool, their perception of the actions of other drivers are affected because they like to think that they are in the spotlight and is the center of attention on the road. So they feel like everybody else are acting hostile or purposely provoking them because of what they are driving.
While in fact, everybody else were going to be tailgating them, cutting them off, or downshifting and accelerating beside them regardless of the type of car they were driving at that moment.

imo
