Tow hooks on daily drivers...
 

Every time I see a daily driven car that has the tow hooks installed I think to myself "Man, I guess that person EXPECTS to get towed..."
Or is it only me? :)

A friend of mine, who I love like a brother, don't get me wrong, suggested I put a tow hook on my FR-S. I told him I wasn't really planning on going to a track, at least, not any time soon, but his response was, "So? It'll still look cool." He's a lot bigger into the car scene than I am too, so I was surprised by this suggestion. I figured my logic was pretty sound.

My dad has tow hooks installed on his '07 WRX. but he does a bunch of hpde and track days so....

Tow hook is like blue tooth headsets.

Unless you're actually using it, you look stupid with it on.

Couple of tow truck drivers I've talked to said they won't even use those hooks. They don't want to risk it breaking off and being responable for damage lol

Especially when i see them on hellaflushed civics and the sort. Reminds me of a friend of mine had them on his 2010ish lancer who came bragging on face book that he has a evox swap planned for it. Took everything in me not to say "You don't really know what you're talking about do you?" lol

I go to autox events and a few track events but I don't daily drive mine(for the most part) so I leave it on especially because its my gopro mount too

Yeah, seeing Raceseng's tow hook with the integrated GoPro mount made me consider it for like an hour or two. I'm trying hard to replace factory parts with aftermarket lighter ones, and a tow hook would simply be 100% adding weight, albeit not very much. So that was how I successfully managed to talk myself out of that purchase.

But yeah, other than an extremely nice GoPro mount, I agree with most people that a not-a-racecar tow hook is just silly. Maybe if it's on some old beater that breaks down weekly. But even then, you're probably not breaking down in a ditch.

it's only okay if there is a domokun or coke can hanging off of it.

Ha, the "hellaflush" look "hellabusted" to me and like they NEED to be towed and repaired. So the hooks on those vehicles are warranted in my opinion. :happy0180:

Some people just like JDM bling. There's nothing wrong with that.

I keep both tow hooks on mine, but it's because I'm too lazy to take them off. I do autox probably 10-15x per year and head to mid ohio and putnam at least a few times per year

Theres really a thread to talk about people who put tow hooks on there car and don't track em...Who really cares if people like to Look like a racer without actually racing..hell i wanna look buff without going to the gym :lol:

I have that same thought, "I guess they're planning on crashing sometime soon..."

I don't buy the "I do a lot of HPDE events" thing either. The stock tow hook for the WRX took less than a minute to install, and actually has a warning on it NOT to drive on public roads with it intalled.
