Is it just me or are the twins magnets for road debris? In one year of ownership, I'm on my 3rd windshield and 2nd bumper. Bumper was replaced one month ago and it already has multiple rock chips. I need a force field for my baby

Try to give trucks and other drivers more space in front of you on the highway, that'll reduce a little bit of rash. Either way, the paint is notoriously thin on these cars from what I've heard.

Ive had the car for about 4000 miles and the only damage to my bumper was from when the previous owner had it, it had two chips in the bumper but i just repaired them with the touch up kit. The windshield looks like someone took a sand blaster to it, but it was like that when I got it.

Like the previous poster said, I give a lot of space in front. Have you considered a clearbra?

My front bumper looks like shit too if you get down really close and look. Seriously considering getting it professionally "repaired" and then clear bra installed.

I don't tailgate. I've been behind two tire blowouts and also hit a piece of metal that was in the road as I was changing lanes. It seems every time I drive on the highway something happens.

Sounds like its time to invest in an Xpel clear bra and clearplex windshield protection.

Same here, get a clear bra or foil the car I guess, once you're bored of the car or want to sell it remove the wrap and you have the original paint sitting new.

Per my paint gauge having done correction work on at least 10 BRZ / FRS - these finishes are thin but not scary thin. If you want to get upset about thin paint, buy an EVO. Thinnest factory paint I've ever seen.

Clear bra really is your best bet. So you can peel off and replace once it gets rashed instead of another repaint

It's pedantic, but it's low car, it has nothing to do at all with the location of the CG within the body.

The center of gravity has nothing to do with road rash. I believe you wanted to say low height.

To the OP, here's the basic rule of life that will help you understand why we get parking lot and road rash: people suck.

No one cares about your car the way you do. As a result people will smash your doors, drive through rocks on the highway (even though there is a clearer path just 2 inches away) and leave loose crap in the back of their pickups.

People suck, so give them lots of room. Don't try to fit into their world, try to avoid it.

So with that in mind, you will be a lot happier if you accept this rule and also accept that damage to your vehicle is beyond your control. If you drive on public roads, you have to deal with the public. And they suck.

This. first or second thing I did when I got the car. Worth every penny. I drive on the highway all the time, not one little spot on the front bumper whatsoever; looks brand new. I'l let bugs build up for a few days before washing off and they come off with ease. I'll put it on any car I get from now on.

Always be in front.

A clear bra is a very sound investment. It still supports her while you still see the goods.

I think it's just you lol, I drove 26k kms in 8 month all hwy driven with big trucks every where. My car is in perfect condition. But I did do clear bra whole front end including whole bumper, fender and hood tho.

I have to smile when I read about our thin/cheap paint. I have over 12,000 miles on my FR-S and I have yet to find one chip on the front of my car. I think the terrain a person drives in has a lot to do with it, along with how closely they tail gate.

That and it depends if the owner is doing a lot of 100mph+ runs in it. That will add a ton of rock chips.

at about 2k miles, the car ahead of me drifted into breakdown lane, thought i heard something hit the car, was following at a proper distance.

yup, next morning pock mark on hood and a couple chips down to bare metal.


i don't ride asses, yet still have far more rock chips than i've had on any other vehicle, but whatever

either its get a clear bra, for $$, or respray down the road for $$, whats the difference?

I have several chips and a nick in my windshield... 6 months of ownership.

My lava had more rock chips down to metal at 5000 miles then any of my previous vehicles at 100,000 miles, and I drive it exactly the same. My front bumper isn't pretty, but the hood is a catastrophe. Don't know if it's the aluminum or if the paint really is that thin. I would've invested in a coating had I been cognizant of this. Maybe carbon fiber'll hold up better.

Paint is thin...AND SOFT. I hate the paint on these cars.
