Rota Wheel Quality Questions

600-700$ for what looks to be a semi decent cast 1 piece wheels which if staying in the 17x8 range is a bit lighter than stock and should allow for slightly wider tires. 18x8's also look to be a great option with little price increases. I don't care for real wheels that cost an arm and a leg. I do not show off my car at shows etc... I want best bang for my buck because I drive my car. For people who have Rota Wheels on the FR-S/BRZ what was your thoughts on quality, looks, and driving impressions.

I have to say I love the look of the 17x8 Rota G-Force Hyper black! With some nice long blue color lugs would make an Argento car pop! Then get some 225/45 sized rubber(probably Michelins SSP's for traction, tread wear and a great tire.

A lot of people have Rota wheels. As discussed before, track cars run these wheels too. Unless you don't do crazy stuff, these should be fine.

ZionsWrath 08-26-2013 11:00 AM

Pretty sure the are drift and track cars sponsored by and running rota. So Unless you are competing for 0.01 it is probably fine.

I think Rota best quality is you can buy a used set for CHEAP lol

Personally I'll most likely stick with Enkei, may buy some Titans though I like them a lot

Rota wheels are a great value. They conform to the same quality standards as OEM manufacturers. Little do people know, but Rota actually is the manufacturer for many OEM wheels.

Everyone says they break, this and that. I've seen te37's break. Doesn't matter how they are made, you nail a curb straight on you'll do damage to any rim.

My only complaint is, they have gotten more expensive in the past few years. I'm looking at the MXR's...but they're $1000 for the set. I paid that for my old axis wheels new mounted with tires. Also not much cheaper than my 5zigen f10rc were a piece either. In fact, actually saw a sale on those for less than the rotas :(

I have Rota Grids on my car (fitted approx 6 months ago) and am completely satisfied with them. Unfortunately, there are a lot of broscience experts on the internet who love to boost their egos by bad mouthing various products. Very often, this is based purely on speculation, and no real knowledge. A lot of OEM alloy rims are cast.

For my daily driver/autocross BRZ the Rota Titans offered the best combination of value, weight and appearance. Here is a good article on Rota wheels I came across while researching them.

What wheel specs, looks perfect

JesseE 09-07-2013 11:02 AM

I don't mind rotas, I've had a few sets on various cars, never had a problem besides the center cap sticker falling off :-P I've tracked/drifted/DD'd on rotas, never had a failure, nor have I ever seen a failure in person.

Currently I have Rotas 18x9 on my frs, put 10k miles on them already, love em.

ugh I want that spec so bad but they won't fit stock with any amount of camber

Wish they made a 17x8.5 5x100

Unfortunately you are correct. I have around 4mm of strut clearance running 245/40R17 Direzza ZII's. Not much room for camber adjustment with crash bolts so I'm running HVT plates which allow me to run -2.0 degrees of camber.

I've been thinking the titans were a good thing for a while now. Have you posted more pics anywhere?

Yes I believe so. My grids have acorn style lugs.

Any rubbing on the tie rod at full lock? I ask because I've read that others are rubbing on the tie rods with 17x9 +45 rpf1. Dont know if that 3mm difference in the offset is helping that much...

Yes, they do slightly rub at full lock. However, I rarely turn the wheels that far even in parking lots so it's really a non-issue.

AyJay 01-30-2014 07:46 PM

I currently run a set of Rota Grid's on my frequently tracked S2000. I purchased my wheels off Andrie Hartanto's US Touring Car Championship (USTCC) S2000. Many of the fastest S2k's here in NorCal run Grids because they are one of the few reasonably priced wheels that clear our BBKs.

Elitest kids may "hate my fake wheels" but, frankly, I hate their prissy hardparking show cars too.

Where did you see TE37's break? I'm not saying they can't, but I've personally never seen it. They bend like a mother, but they shouldn't break.

OP, for 95% of us, Rotas are more than enough for street and track duty. They look great and are easy on the wallet. I would love to get me some TC105N's, but I will probably run a replica for awhile as it's not in the budget for a long time.

OICU812 01-30-2014 08:14 PM

Never had an issue with my Rotas I owned they looked and worked just fine as a wheel should really. For what their cost is they are a decent value, IMO of course. :)

diss7 01-30-2014 10:40 PM

For me, I can find 2nd hand forgies for the same price as new Rota's. So thats what I buy.

If I was in the states, and new fakes were half the price of 2nd hand genuine, and a 3rd the price of new genuine, then I might have a set of rotas on my car.

But I'm quite happy that this isnt the case.

IAmNotTheDriftKing 01-31-2014 12:14 AM

You are going to have wheel snobs telling you to buy original or it might break. And they will think you are cheap for not spending 4k for a set of real Volks

What they don't realize is that some people don't feel like spending 1500+ dollars on something that is just going to get dirty, chipped, and scratched. Rotas make a good wheel for the price. Hell they aren't even that heavy(titans are 17.8lbs for 17x9). I have many friends that use them for their track cars and they haven't had a problem yet.

Basically, Rotas rule and wheels snobs can suck my nuts.

/rant

EDIT: Here enjoy, nice to know race cars use Rotas. I am sure your show cars look great with those ultra JDMasfuck Work or Volks, but I am going to go and hoon the shit out of my Rotas. . . whenever I decide to order them.

OICU812 01-31-2014 12:25 AM

Lol nut suckin
