So the difference between this system and the original is the elimination of the dash mid-range speakers, replacement of the door speakers, and an updated DSP for all speakers?

shiro 08-23-2013 10:05 AM

That's awesome!! I've been checking their facebook page but I haven't seen any updates from them. Good find! Can't wait to get my order in once I get the coupon :)

xjohnx 08-23-2013 10:53 AM

What's up with the pricing? When we originally ordered we were told that we could upgrade simply at the difference in pricing, however it looks like the upgrade is the difference in price +$100.

They also said that reprogramming of the DSP would not be necessary for the upgrade when I inquired about it at the time of purchase, apparently that has changed as well.

Yruyur 08-23-2013 11:07 AM

They said there is a 100 discount for existing owners.

Does the price listed already include that or is there a coupon?

Edit: Didn't get the code when I registered yesterday. Emailed them and got it and just ordered.

Yruyur 08-23-2013 01:09 PM

According to what I posted up above that they sent me if you registered they sent a coupon.

They did clarify with me too that the dsp will need to be reprogrammed. That was my understanding since the beginning as well.

Which makes sense since they eliminated the midrange woofers. My guess is the more they tweaked the system the more they had a hard time getting the midrage to sound right. Thus needing to reprogram the DSP. I had the same issue with my aftermarket speakers and found everything to sound cleaner by eliminating the 3.5 midrange.

So here's the thing. It's still NOT just the price difference with the discount guys. They're charging you tax based on the $400 price and then giving you the $100 discount rather than just charging the base $300 + tax.

I had missed the portion about the $100 discount coupon for current customer. Talked with Dan today and he got the coupon to me. He also confirmed that things had changed since we last spoke and that unfortunately reprogramming of the amp will be necessary. That's a bit of a pain, but not too bad. I'll probably hop on it next week.

lbroskee 08-23-2013 05:16 PM

so does this jus add CF front door speakers and a recalibration basically?

l0aded 08-23-2013 05:28 PM

I wonder how much differen the sound will be. The only thing I thought was missing on the original was it needed a little more bass so this might be perfect.

I cannot speak for the reference 6.5's, but swapping the stock 6.5's for Hybrid Audio 6.5's resulted in much better bass. Deeper and more accurate. Very noticeable. So I would assume this would make a pretty big difference too.

Gary in NJ 08-23-2013 05:38 PM

I'll be interested in an *honest* review to see if the $300 is well spent. I'm not happy about having to eliminate the 3" mid-range that is at ear level. My ears aren't near my calf...and I find that having a passenger really destroys the sound stage.

I might just go with the original system.

rikdrt1 08-24-2013 12:32 AM

where are you guys getting them? im interested. I also got an email stating 399 price.. so I want the coupon and then.. Im IN.

toyotapartoutlet.com or does this come right from them for the deal ?

The deal is for those that own the previous OEM Audio Plus kit. They will send you a coupon in your email box if you go to their site and sign up for the preorder through email.

I just preordered mine. I'm wondering what it will sound like without flashing the DSP. I'm guessing they didn't replace the rear speakers??

Agreed, sound stage needs to stay up top, I wonder if there going to release details on how they came about this setup

l0aded 08-27-2013 02:27 PM

Status is still in preorder, anyone know when it will ship? I want to wait for it to actually be ready to ship before I drop 300$ for the upgrade.. Will the 100$ off coupon expire when it actually enters sale mode?

xjohnx 08-27-2013 04:29 PM

Give them a call, i'm sure they'll be able to answer your questions on timeframe.

While I agree with this, I can barely hear my door speakers at all while driving. I'll touch the door panel and I can feel them vibrating it but can't hear anything. In my altima, even when driving, I could hear my door speakers and the dash speakers blended well while keep the soundstage up high. This car sounds like only the dash speakers are working.

Hopefully the reference system will sound better for my tastes. I love a good soundstage but without hearing the door speakers the sound is quite thin. Maybe I need to turn the bass up? My music isn't "hard hitting" or anything but even in the altima the sound was fuller.

Yruyur 08-27-2013 08:09 PM

I have my bass turned up to 2 and highs turned up by one. Make sure you are on tC mode as well.

Yes. I compared the stock 6.5's vs the Hybrid 6.5's off the same Alpine amp. Bass was much better.

tonystewart 09-01-2013 11:30 AM

I ordered the complete system, not sure when it arrives.

buddy32 09-01-2013 01:27 PM

Same here. Should be shipping in a couple of weeks.

dabocx 09-01-2013 01:37 PM

Kinda was hoping that they would change out the rear seat ones too and the dash midrange. Still considering how good the original system sounded this should be a nice improvement

Iddoit2er 09-03-2013 11:22 PM

I paid for the upgrade last week since I have the System 400 already - no instructions or correspondence as of yet, even after sending an inquiry. Im supposed to send my processor back to be adjusted (shipping on their dime), but have no info on how to do so. I am assuming they will email a prepaid mailing label, or perhaps send the new speakers along with/in packaging meant to ship them the processor.

Dunno yet. #whypreorder?

That's the point! You're not supposed to be able to tell that the sound is coming from the speaker. What matters is that you get all the frequencies playing at the right part/focus of the sound stage.

Guys don't even bother with looking at 'reference' setups if you don't understand the basics.

Iddoit2er 09-07-2013 11:10 AM

My reference speakers/wiring shipped yesterday and will arrive on the 12th, but still no communication on sending back the processor, which leads me to believe some sort of label will be included in the package, which means the time from upgrade purchase to actually being able to complete the install will be something like 3-4 weeks.

If they are shipping components maybe the complete system will ship as well, hoping
I order Friday August 30th, my CC was charged on September 4th

JDKane527 09-10-2013 01:28 AM

Just received the package for the upgrade and it includes a prepaid package to ship the amplifier for recalibration and front 3.5" woofer back to get the connector installed to the bypass umbilical cable.

l0aded 09-10-2013 01:39 AM

PSA: I received the "upgrade" for the reference series and it came with no instructions, two 6.5" speakers, and two empty boxes. I spoke with Sandy at OEM audio+ who asked me pack my (2) front 3.5" speakers and DSP amplifier in the empty box with a divider, and pack it into the prepaid USPS box and ship it to them for reprogramming.

"Once we receive your parts, we will re-flash the amplifier and transfer the speaker connectors from your stock speakers to the new umbilical cable. Both the amplifiers and the speakers will be shipped back to you with the new umbilical cable. "

Hope this clears up any confusion for people receiving their packages.

edit: I packaged the DSP amp with the sub amp since it was a botch to separate and seemed to fit snuggly with the speakers (which i wrapped in paper towels and put in a plastic bag)

Gary in NJ 09-10-2013 08:15 AM

So the dash mid-bass is retained in the reference system?

Talking to Daniel, the mid speakers do need to be sent with the amp. Video will be fixed shortly.
