NHMS FT86 Autocross - Sep. 8, 2013

Ladies and gents,

After weeks of trying to rent NH Motor Speedway, I have succeeded. On Sept. 8th, we will partner with SCCNH for this event. They will have their own cars and will have ours and we will all participate together. According to what we discussed we them, they will also create a GT86 class for the day so we could all compete against each other.

The plus side is that you would only have to pay normal registration fees for an autocross, which is $40 each, as opposed to splitting the entire cost of the event, which would be much more. All paperwork, insurance, lot rental and ambulance fees would already be taken care of. All you would have to do is arrive, drive and do your single work assignment on the course.

They only request that we preregister and pay online for the event so we can have a fairly accurate head count. Registration closes 2 days before the event, so even last minute additions are no problem. Details on payment will be addressed on days to come.

If you have any questions how this will go, just post them here and I will have one of the directors join the conversation if I cant answer the question. Thank you in advance. Drive safe.

Preregister for the event here

Couple of questions:

Just sign up through motorsportreg, correct?

Any idea what lot will be used?

Thanks

Yes throug their website but not now, we can start signing up in a week from now once they finalize everything. We will mainly use the big s1 lot and other ones I believe for competing against each other

DaveEstey 08-15-2013 09:29 AM

Hey guys, I'm Dave Estey, SCCNH autocross director. I'm excited to have you guys join us as we have a handful for FR-S/BRZ racers already and they've proven to be quite quick.

We will be in the S1 lot. I'm shooting for 8 runs on the day. Registration will be through our Motorsportsreg.com page, which simplifies everything.

As noted, I have created an FT86 class, which will allow you to compete against each other. We will use SCCA pax to equalize modifications. If you have questions on classing let me know, it's seems harder than it is.

Again, if you have any questions about the event or our autocross program, let me know. To give you an idea of some of our courses I'll attach some videos.

Dave, are you guys doing anything with RTR classes?

I'm with CMC over in Maine and I've been running RTR-CS.

We've always had stock street tire classes. This is our usual class breakdown. FT86 will have their own class for the day, using PAX to even the field.

  1. P - Stock Performance, (street tires – UTQG 140+) includes SCCA classes: SS. AS, BS, CS, ES
  2. S - Stock Sedan, (street tires – UTQG 140+) includes SCCA classes: DS, FS, GS, HS
  3. T - Street Touring, includes SCCA classes: STC, STF, STS, STR, STU, STX
  4. M - Street Modified, includes SCCA classes: SM, SSM, SMF
  5. R - Race, includes SCCA classes: Stock on R-Comps: SS, AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS; ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP, XP, BP, CP, DP, EP, FP, GP, AM, BM, CM, DM, EM, FM, FSAE, KM
  6. N - Novice, street car (street tires UTQG 140+) and no racing experience in past 20 years: SS, AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS, STC, STF, STS, STR, STU, STX, SM, SSM, SMF, ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP

DaveEstey 08-15-2013 09:48 AM

@mtimney has raced with us several times now, so he can chime in regarding how our events flow.

DaveEstey 08-15-2013 09:49 AM

Also, if anybody is interested, we're running an Autocross 101 school on August 24th.

Tt3Sheppard 08-15-2013 09:57 AM

This will be fun. Are passengers allowed?

DaveEstey 08-15-2013 10:04 AM

Novices are restricted from having passengers other than an instructor. More experienced drivers will be decided on a case-by-case basis based on morning runs. We don't want this to turn into a joy ride day.

Turbowned 08-15-2013 10:19 AM

I'll try and make it to this one; the Cars and Copters show is the following Sunday, so I don't know if I can swing both Sundays off. Racing is always better than shows, but I always go to this show!

I think I may actually try to go to that this year.

It's epic. I got a lot of attention with my AW11 MR2 last year:

Which is sadly in no state to show or autocross this year

Thanks Dave.

Do you use the Rick Ruth 0.75 pax modifier for street tires in your P & S classes?

And will we be able to compete with the entire field on the basis of PAX (this won't determine if I go or not...)?

Mike

DaveEstey 08-15-2013 12:18 PM

Because we break out the street tire stock classes away from the stock guys on slicks, we don't use the street tire modifier.

You can register in a normal class, but our intention is to have the GT86 guys competing against each other.

james 08-15-2013 02:34 PM

Too my count as of now, we have 17 cars down on these.... The event is a month away so don't miss this. You will get to meet great car fanatics with plenty to share. Either you car is plain straight from the factory like mines or supercharged like our buddy Abdala from the group, you will fit right in. Scot from the group who owns a 86 is an instructor and knows tons of skills to share and teach. We have all seen posts on the forums and groups asking 150 and more for classes. Well for 40$ all of that will be covered on this day.... Hope to see new faces there

Is this $40 as well? This would be my first time and I'm not sure the main event is something I should participate in with zero experience.

DaveEstey 08-15-2013 04:47 PM

School is $50 for non-members.

Rest assured though, we have instructors available at every event to help novices.

48Spoons 08-15-2013 09:58 PM

I see there is an option to reg as a forum for the event. Does that mean its all setup for us to reg or still waiting on other stuff to get setup? picking that option will class us together and we just choose pax as we normally would?

Thanks!

AznBRZer 08-15-2013 10:36 PM

2 more questions:

-I'd like my gf to join in the fun too, but I only have one car. Any idea on how that would work?

-Where would I go get fitted for and buy a helmet in Boston? Super n00b here.:D

It's all set. Just choose the forum as your class and your PAX.

You can dual drive. You'll just switch back and forth driving. We have a number of couples that dual drive.

Helmet in Boston? Any motorcycle shop. Safety Helmet: Must be approved by the Snell Foundation within the past 15 years which have a readable and genuine SA,M, or K Snell sticker attached to the inside of the helmet.

DaveEstey 08-16-2013 10:58 AM

I'll answer this PM here as I think the answers will help everybody:
"1. what types of helmets are allowed?
2. I don't want my car to get scratches from the cones should i masked taped some areas to prevent chiping?
3. how hard is this for a novice, i know there's always a first time but i dont want to make a fool out of me."

1: Any motorcycle helmet made in the past 15 years is legal. See above post for more details. We also have helmets to loan out for the day.

2: Painters tape does a good job of avoiding scuffs.

3: It's not that hard. We have a very good group of regulars and instructors who are more than willing to answer any questions. I'll introduce the instructors at the driver's meeting before we start the event. Everybody was a novice at some point, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

DaveEstey 08-16-2013 11:00 AM

I can't stress pre-registering online enough guys. That's the only way you'll have a guaranteed spot in the race. Showing up at the event and expecting an empty spot doesn't work out very often. Our events fill up to capacity and then some .

Another option, HMS motorsports in Danvers. http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/ You can go in and try helmets on.
