FRS 10 Series vs. BRZ Limited
I apologize if this has been extensively discussed already but I need to choose between one soon and needed some advice on which way to go.
I am being offered the 10 series FRS for the MSRP 28,150 - 750 cause I am a recent grad. The BRZ Limited I am getting for 28,298 which I reckon is a good price. If you were in my shoes, which would you pick? They are almost identical. :bonk: |
If you can deal with the color silver and the ugly emblems on the 10 series, then i'd advise you to get that.
|
BRZ all the way! (shame on me as I have the scion...)
|
I like the leather seats/ alcantara brz for me :) , although I wouldn't mind for the scion 10.
I would swap out all emblems to Toyota though |
I wanted the BRZ and didn't even want to look at a FR-S. I looked at a few BRZ's and for one reason or another it did not work out. I ended up getting impatient and ended up with a FR-S. When I'm driving the car I don't care because the car is so fun but when I see the interior of a BRZ I get sad. There are other things that I didn't notice the FR-S is missing, there aren't any lights on the visors, less sound denting etc. The FR-S is noisy on the highway I'm not sure about the BRZ. I feel you get more for your money with the BRZ Limited. The 10 is ok if you ask me, but i haven't see one in person.

Where are you located? That price seems high on a BRZ Limited. Many people are getting them for $27K or less depending on location.

I had the same choice and I went with the Scion. Both are very similar and it's going to come down to a few minor differences really. I made another recent post that mentioned some of them, I'll repost it here:

As nice as the BRZ Limited is, I just can't look at one and not see Ned Flanders. I will forever be unable to unsee it. :( http://i.imgur.com/SItDDJl.png |
All but one dealer new me wasn't willing to sell me a limited for 27k. I just couldn't make my mind up at the time.
Trunk lid liner is another silly one I didn't noticed at the time, silly FR-S is only less $ because its a striper but a sexy one. :-) |
Get the BRZ, even though the FRS-10 has great JDM headlights, the BRZ's are better. The interior in the BRZ is better too. A lot of FRS owners endlessly compare their FRS to the BRZ, it's evident that they wish they had a BRZ.

Come to think of it, you could probably dig up a bunch of GT86 vs BRZ Limited reviews from overseas that might expose a few more things. I could be wrong but I believe the 10 series is basically the same as the GT86 now except for the custom Scion bling. Here's one for example:

Also let's not forget Jeremy Clarkson's clear definitive preference for the GT86 based upon this comprehensive comparison: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZrck3Wr8Tw"]Jeremy Clarkson shows how to choose between a Toyota GT86 and a Subaru BRZ - YouTube[/ame] (teehee) |
Lol.
Well, I see it more as a "wicked smile" than anything else and consider it more aggressive than an angry face (which is getting old in cars). Quote:

FYI some of the colors for the BRZ have lower production numbers than the 2500 for the 10 series. 2500 is actually quite a lot for a special edition car!
Doesnt the 10 series get a TRD exhaust as well? |

Which production colors have lower numbers than 2500?
No the TRD exhaust is not a standard equip for the 10 series. You can obviously get one with it. Quote:

At least Stateside, I would imagine that statement actually applies to not just "some" but rather ALL colors actually. Obviously one cannot get "Proof". But only about 7000 BRZ's are sold in the US per year. It's highly unlikely that any of the seven individual colors made up more than a 1/3rd of that by itself. So one can be pretty sure that all of the colors exist in quantities less than, and some colors significantly less than, the 2500 Silver Series-10s. Red, which is significantly rarer than any other color on the BRZ, probably only accounts for 500 or less of the total BRZs sold in the US. With absolute certainty it's nowhere near 1000. And if you limited your trim level down to the comparable "Limited", you're probably looking at something in the range of 200-300 Limited Lightning Reds or so. A mere 1/10th of the Series-10 production. Even by FRS standards, 1 of 2500 isn't very "Limited". It's like 15% of total FRS production in the States; a very sizeable number that, at least from the outside, doesn't make the car any more unique than any other available color. Your odds of coming across a Series-10 FRS will be about the same as coming across any other particular color, and even a lot more than coming across some of the rarer ones like Ultramarine. |
Subaru's hold their value well and they also have a GTP.

but just for the sake of arguing...the US isn't the only place people drive cars... however, Silver ignition will only be sold in the US market so there will only be 2500 Silver ignition FT86's in existance in the whole world... where as all the other colors are as common as vanilla ice cream. And to your trim level argument, I can counter argue that only 750 FR-S are manual, making it even more rear. |

Out of curiosity and not to be argumentative, how many BRZ Limited trims have been sold worldwide? Where would one get that type of info, it's entirely possible that for now they are still pretty rare. |
Well if you want serious exclusivity and want the car that will hold its value far far far into the future when the car is a classic, get the 10 series because it is truly a limited car with only 2500 made.

And yes, I'm an FRS owner who wishes he had a BRZ Limited. In hindsight I should've waited a bit more. |

I am located in the SF Bay Area region in California. I wish we had a dealer like that near by!

I am located n the SF Bay Area. Initially I received quote for upto a $6000 markup on MSRP for the BRZ Limited.

I'd say Scion if you are going to track the car - their warranty rocks the Subaru's hoooord

Also if you want to do some harder mods, transmission, suspension, or driveshaft stuff, go with scion, Subaru has been known to have a harder warranty clause.
|
How did you get in touch with them? If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for yours? (You can pm me if you like). Also, which color did you pick?

What kind of mods will void the Scion warranty? I was thinking even getting aftermarket wheels would void it...
Quote:

Can you provide me with more details about how it compares? I did want to make modifications to it once I got accustomed to the vehicle. What kind of mods are allowed with Scion and which ones are not?
Thanks. Quote:

The difference is that, on average, Scion dealers seem to be a bit more open to looking beyond modifications and repairing an issue if it is a legitimate one. Whereas, generally, Subaru dealers tend to be a bit more strict and more than a bit overzealous on trying to (usually incorrectly) blame mods for issues. There's no guarantee that any one will be any "better" than the other regarding modifications. Your local Subaru dealer may be a very good one, whereas your Scion dealer may fight you on every mod you have. That Scion is 'better' about modifications is simply a generalization. One that, at least anecdotally, does seem to be based in reality, but a generalization nonetheless. |

Get the BRZ limited if you can get at MSRP. The Scion 10 logo lights are childish. This is from a FRS owner.
