BRZ Illumination Kit

BRZ Illumination Kit
:iono:

Does anyone know for sure what exactly is included with the Illumination Kit accessory on the 2013 BRZ? My dealer is not sure but he thinks for the price it's likely to include cup holders as well as foot well lighting.

Thanks,

Joe

Uh... from what I can recall from the Japanese booklet (its somewhere, just search the forums, I can't quite find it at the moment), it looks like some leds that light up the foot area

MRZ415 03-25-2012 12:06 AM

I have footwell lighting in my car... red leds everywhere
with the brz tho i rather only focusing on the tach.

Given that the cup holders in the BRZ are just a removable tray I would agree with your dealer.

Who needs/wants light up cup holders anyway?

Yeah, since the cupholders are removable, I don't think they will be illuminated. Looks like just cheap lights in the footwells, nothing more unfortunately. I was hoping for some ambient lighting.

The upholders are just a removable insert, and there is a power outlet right there. If you really want lighted upholders it should be easy enough to do a mod to add them.

My biggest concern is where my iPhone dock will go.

anyone installed this ?

Kuri 01-20-2014 09:18 PM

Yes. I have the illumination kit from Subaru. Its just footwell lighting. No cup holder.

Much more complicated then 2008+ WRX Footwells.

sousuke86 01-22-2014 03:18 PM

Comes in blue or red. I had mine installed at the port. I will take pictures of them when I get home. It's literally 1 led on each foot well.

tobin 01-22-2014 03:25 PM

Does anyone know how to disable this kit?

Is it plug and play from a harness behind the factory nav ?

How was the level of difficulty of the install ?

thanks

I thought I saw a thread in the electronics section with a member who did illuminated cupholders. I think the same member did the illuminated plaque (seat warmer part of console) and changed the backlight on the other dash buttons to another color.

Anyone know that thread/build?

If you don't have heated seats we have illuminated acrylic available

Does anyone who has installed this kit have any tips for disconnecting the factory harness from the hazard switch panel? Step #7 in the official instructions.
I have been trying to get it disconnected for about 30 minutes now with no luck getting the release tab to actually release it :iono:

but i thought led lights were rice :bonk:

Do they stay on all the time?

Local parts department just said they're only on when you open the doors. Kinda hoping they would only be on at night or something since they're hooked up to the head unit. Dunno with something silly like this.

The USDM illumination kit is PnP and different from the JDM kit. It lights up when the headlamps are on.

That's awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm assuming you mean when the headlamps are on AND the doors are open, correct? I hope they don't come on with the doors closed.

* Sorry to revive this, but the only 2015 I can find with the other options I want also has an illumination kit and I wanted to double check this before driving 200 miles.

The blue (or red) lights are on whenever the headlights are on. It has nothing to do with the doors. Luckily they can be easily unplugged if you don't like them. I found them both tacky and distracting.

Kuri 10-29-2014 11:48 AM

They are attached to parking light and headlight. They can also be dimmed by the dash control. I chose red because I had blue on my WRX last time. Not too bright to be distracting

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I searched and couldn't find anything. I have the usdm factory footwell lights in red. Bought the car used with them already installed. They seem to be a really small LED bulb, is it possible to swap this for a blue one? Can anyone tell me what size the bulb is or a link to where I can buy blue? Thanks.

You're in luck - someone just posted about it today:

The OEM Subaru footwell lights connects to the stock power harness right before the headunit. Is it safe to say the BRZ and FR-S share the same headunit power harness and this harness hasn't changed since 2013?

Scratch that, I just read the instructions, it's connected to the hazard switch's harness not the stock headunit.

Looks pretty straight forward. Any tips or tricks?
