Finally a chance to check the BRZ; my review and some pic

Finally get a chance to see the BRZ in person today

Here is some of my impression

The car looks way better in person especially the blue.

The car doesn't look small (like S2000) given the fact that it only weight 2500 lbs

Trunk is small, the seat is really low remind me of NSX but everything is just right.

Backseat is VERY TIGHT, in order for me 5'9 to sit comfortable in the back seat, front passenger has to give up a lot of leg room. This guy whom is 6'2 literally had his leg against the dashboard.

Dashboard/control seems very cheap like a corolla compare to my acura, but again this is a 25k car. In fact the seat belt holder on the front seat came off (rip off) because someone tried to unbutton it. The leather seems very cheap.

Steering, shifting and everything else is in the right place and i like the feel of it.

Wow, if it feels like an NSX when I'm sitting in it, I'll be super happy. I loved the way it felt to sit in those. I felt like I was sitting on the ground.

MannyO 03-24-2012 11:04 PM

Funny you mention the seat belt holder being ripped off. The BRZ I sat in had the same thing on the drivers seat.

Anyhow, glad you liked it!

random 03-24-2012 11:25 PM

Was this a look-but-no-drive kind of dealership?

ZmZMWagon 03-24-2012 11:34 PM

Will this car be there tomorrow? Looks like I know what I'm doing on Sunday...:D

Buggy51 03-24-2012 11:41 PM

Did you get a picture of said seatbelt problem?

ironsurfer129 03-24-2012 11:53 PM

Yup no test drive and I believe this car will head to another dealer for show later.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pic of the seatbelt problem. Basically it's 2 button integrated into the seat like those on your jean and these buttons will rip off from the seat instead of unbuttoning.

The sunvisor looks very cheap too. It's just a piece of plastic.

Ac vent seems fragile, and I can already see someone "accidentally" break it by turning too fast/adjusting

Buggy51 03-25-2012 12:12 AM

Do you think its due to the accelerated wear and tear due to the car going to so many dealerships and having so many people just messing with everything? I don't recall Subaru's interior to be that cheap and delicate.

neutron256 03-25-2012 12:13 AM

Keep in mind the BRZs making the rounds at dealerships are preproduction models. Hopefully these problems won't exist in the production cars.

+1. I'm sure this car had the bad fitting interior door handles as well.

deesu 03-25-2012 12:47 AM

How long is the car staying at the dealership?

tranzformer 03-25-2012 12:49 AM

OP thanks for the pics. Btw BRZ does not weigh 2500lbs.

merlin2111 03-25-2012 12:55 AM

I dont like the idea of things randomly breaking on the car when it is almost brand new. Hopefully this was a preproduction car or we are going to see a lot of under warranty repairs on these rides.

ashtray 03-25-2012 01:29 AM

I don't like that seatbelt holder design. Looks like if nothing else it would wear out from use and either break or look terrible after a few years. As for it unbuttoning/ripping - this is part of the seatbelt system! If you're in a panic stop, seatbelt locks, then the holder rips from the seat and the seatbelt goes slack or rides up around your throat - not good!!!

I get the feeling we won't be seeing the same leather strap on the 2014 models - and potential for 2013 retrofit recalls too. Otherwise they look nice.

SUB-FT86 03-25-2012 07:02 AM

Yeah the leather reminds me of my RSX's leather, not that good at all. But the alcantara was great.

86design 03-25-2012 07:06 AM

did they say how long that dealer is keeping that car for??

I checked out that car on Thursday night when it arrived. It's a pre production car so there are minor things that are different. For example it's a limited, but no climate control. It was most likely a press car, therefore some of the wear and tear may be abuse. Trust me i work for a company that loans our modified cars to magazines for test drives, and we are constantly replacing parts.

sorry about dark pics. Still using a 3GS

Interior in the Subaru does seem better quality than the Scion. The two cars share many parts like the seats, the steering wheel, but climate control, radio, and the dash trim and gauge designs are different. The pics below are from a scion. The alcantara interior is decent for a car under $30k. The FRS interior seemed too boy racer for me with brightly colored bolsters in red.

From my understanding the FRS and BRZ Premium use different material for the seats with many saying the BRZ Premium has better material.

I haven't had a chance to sit in the BRZ with cloth, just leather, but it makes sense. The cloth in the FRS seemed real basic, like typical scion XB material.

Ran my ass to the dealership when I saw this post and got to have the car all to myself the entire time I was there (probably about 30-45 minutes).

Thank the shitty weather today for that.

GrimmSpeed 03-26-2012 01:01 PM

Thanks for the pics! We got out mitts on one over the weekend for a while. Fun to finally be seeing these pop up in person!

I presume you mean these straps? I think they're suppose to detach so you can have someone climb into the back (ahahhahaha....?)

Allch Chcar 03-28-2012 02:29 AM

Pretty disappointing to hear of stuff being broken on the display models. Even if it's little stuff it's either cheap or getting abused as a display.

Thanks for sharing. I keep hearing how tight it is in the back but nothing really new.

I thought (hoped) they were just a prototype thing - they look cheap and cheesy. But I see now they are on the official website photos too, so they are here to stay.

I don't know why they are even needed, my seat belt comes from exactly the same point on the B pillar and I don't have any shoulder guide on my seat. Maybe they can be removed.

Yes sir, this is exactly what I mean the seat belt guide/strap. The whole button would RIP off from the seat leaving a hole on the seat.

The guide is there so the seat beat can be reach easily instead of having to reach all the way to the B-pillar, but this is just a bad design overall.

My acura has a plastic guider that serves to fold the chair too and I think that is nice.

zoomzoomers 03-29-2012 08:33 PM

Do you think it would be better to just detach the button entirely?

How do you get to the root directory of the FRS images on Scion.com? I keep seeing people link them but the directories seem to be forbidden.

Sorry, I just realized these pics are on the site now. But a while back people were posting official Scion pics that I couldn't find anywhere.

I would like to add that I'm pretty satisfied with what looks to be the final spec FR-S interior. The only thing I don't like is the plain looking e-brake as opposed to the nice red stiched BRZ e-brake. But that should be an easy swap I would think. I just hope there's an option to get the Alcantara/leather seats and LED/HID headlamps in there.
