Plasti Dip Problems

Back in June when the Man of Steel movie came out I dipped my car superman themed.
http://i.imgur.com/mWTguO8.jpg
I laid down 4 coats of the blue then I laid the carbon fiber pattern down and did two heavy coats of blaze blue. After that all dried I taped off the shield and put down 3 coats of blaze yellow and then used a darker yellow over that to complete the carbon fiber look again in yellow. Then finished taping the S and sprayed 3 heavy coats of red on top of everything.

A week after I had dipped my car I was involved in a flooding and I seized my engine. Insurance covered all expenses but it took about 2 months to get back to me. All that time the car sat in the sun not moving. Anyway I peeled the car today. . .

It looks like the red bled thought staining my paint. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on what I can do to remove it. Scrubbing with soap and water does nothing, neither does a pressure wash

mikeTee 08-13-2013 11:45 PM

I'm guessing the red paint you used wasn't plastidip?

SuperJimmyK 08-13-2013 11:48 PM

All plasti dip. Light blue gallons, blaze blue on top of that, the blaze yellow and plasti dip red for the shield.

Try "Dip Dissolver". If you're pressed on time, Goo Gone may work as well.

I have no idea how to get that off, and I would probably cry if it were my car. Unfortunately right now I can't help but laugh when I look at those pictures.

Good Luck.

Maybe the only way is to sand it or new Hood?

Oh wow that sucks.. maybe try buffing it with some cutting compound or polish? Good luck

DAEMANO 08-14-2013 12:08 AM

Like the above posters said, just use polish or other paint restoration compounds. It should come out. Alternatively you can just re-dip your hood white for a funky look.

husker741 08-14-2013 12:21 AM

Just showed this thread to a buddy of mine who works for a local company that Plasti Dips cars. He said...

A good buffing or some rubbing compound. I would even just try a good cleaner wax by hand first
Hope that helps.

SuperJimmyK 08-14-2013 12:25 AM

I an not upset about it, and have dipped many other vehicles before without a problem. This is something new though and just wanted to get some input on what everyone thought. I have every intention of dipping it again but might not be doing any decals or extras until I figure out if this was a one time thing or something the clear coat of this car does when dipped. I almost like the ghosted look of the symbol.
I will try the polishing compound and what not tomorrow and see if that helps, thanks for the quick responses.

Freeze2196 08-14-2013 02:53 AM

Does the surface feel raised at all ? try some WD40

cdo221 08-14-2013 03:44 AM

Just wanted to say that the super man dip was pretty sick looking! Anyway, I would get in contact with someone at https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php

They might have some suggestions for you if using some rubbing compound doesn't work. I would also try a bit of rubbing alcohol (70% isopropanol) to see if it would come out - I've had good success with rubbing alcohol at getting gunk off the car. Also nail polish remover (acetone) - just don't leave it on your car's paint too long and remember to wash off the acetone afterwards.

Also, you can take it to a reputable, professional detailer/restorer. It's really unlikely the dip went through the clear coat, at most it was partially absorbed by the clear coat I think. A professional should be able to take care if it.

If all else fails... new carbon fiber hood or vinyl wrap it black! :party0030: It would look great on white

IgnitionGundam 08-14-2013 03:48 AM

Hakuna Montana?

dori. 08-14-2013 03:54 AM

rub some kryptonite on it

Maverick22 08-14-2013 03:55 AM

oh man. I saw the title and entered, I am now leaving with a smile on my face and had a good laugh tonight.

but honestly. Grab a can of cleaner wax. Circular motion with a microfiber aplicator pad. don't let the wax dry all the way.

aakash 08-14-2013 10:44 AM

take of a few thin layers of your clear coat where it is stuck with some rubbing compound and then polish back to a shine. if that wont work, remove hood, sand, repaint.

polishing compound after you rubbing compound it.

thanks for the short lived LOLs

ciotime 08-14-2013 10:54 AM

Same thing happened to mine when I dipped my front emblem...tried WD40,rubbing compound, wax and still nothing...decided just to have it retouched at the bodyshop.

No the surface is smooth and you can see the pearl color through the red.

I have heard that this has effected others but I couldn't find anything when I searched. Did you ever talk to the people at dipyourcar.com?

kidgogeta 08-14-2013 09:40 PM

i would try maybe a clay bar and good buff, that is funny tho

l0aded 08-15-2013 04:55 PM

Goo Gone

dnieves 08-17-2013 11:47 AM

How about those cleaner waxes they sell at car shows like IBIZ and Liquid Lustre? The have petroleum distillates that should be strong enough to fix that.

SuperJimmyK 08-23-2013 07:20 PM

Just a quick update. I cleaned and clay bared my can it it didn't effect the red S at all, but after a week of parking my car in the sun the bled through symbol has almost faded away.

I will post pictures when i get back to my computer.

psk 08-24-2013 04:53 AM

it's in clark kent mode.

jokes aside, hopefully that buffs out.

dennis.s.s 09-11-2013 07:29 AM

I know I'm bumping this thread, but just saw this posted elsewhere.

I had the same issue when I dipped my badges red. Same as the OP, it eventually went away. I tried: Wax and grease remover, unleaded petrol (quickly washed off with water), goof off, Vodka, dish washing detergent and a few others and it didn't come out.

Apparently there is an issue with the red plastidip staining surfaces that it's put on.

MaXimus 09-22-2013 09:00 AM

Any update O.P??

Turbo95eg6 11-25-2013 02:43 PM

Very sad and idiotic things BRZ owners do to their car… Afraid to know what OP has in mind when the new Lord of the Rings comes out.

TOTO_86 11-25-2013 03:09 PM

Looks awesome! lol

bkblitzed 11-25-2013 04:16 PM

sevi21 11-26-2013 09:33 PM

The sun faded it away? dafuq

adprokid 11-27-2013 12:33 PM

repaint

ZionsWrath 11-27-2013 12:45 PM

Dat feel when there is no resolution, like fapping and hear the front door open...

vividracing 11-27-2013 12:49 PM

I think its bad ass. let me know if nothing works out for you because I can get you a good deal on a CF hood.

Jacky

I think it's Karma striking for you driving around in a gay superman car.

OP owns a movie theater. Dipped his car for the opening of the man of steel.

I would look into a porter cable from autogeek's website. There's lots of training vids by mike Philips. Buy some cutting pads and polishing pads and start with a light abrasive compound and work your way up until completely removed. Then polish and wax. I would recommend using ultimate compound and polish from meguiars :) and finish it off with a synthetic wax... Or you could always buy an after market hood. Hope this helps
