Hunger Games, any good?
 

Movie at 12:01 am today. I haven't gotten into this craze, but everyone keeps telling me I need to read the books since they are so good. Quick easy reads.

Anyone into those books on the forum? I am assuming I should read the books prior to watching the movie?

Seems like they will have a huge opening weekend.

Books are great...just be prepared that once you get past the first chapter, you will not put it down until done.

I haven't seen the movie yet.

To avoid Disappointment, i always watch the Movies first

Don't. My daughter just got back for the movie...she said movie not near as good as the book.

Read it..I bet you will be hooked...three books in all.

Books were phenomenal.

The books are freaking. Awesome.

Yeah, I need to read the books. Only judging by the trailer, the leading actress looks like she can act and everything else is meh.

Those books were incredible. Like Zgrinch said, be prepared... cause from the moment I got past the first chapter putting the book down no longer became an option.

The book is good. Not quite as spectacular as everyone seems to think it is. Seriously people, read some science fiction. The Hunger Games isn't unique in how good it is.

The movie was meh. I think you'd miss a lot if you hadn't already read the books because so much of the story is about what is going on in the main character's head. They also spent money making the control room (something not featured at all in the books) which I think just breaks the tension and mood of the scenes during the game. They should have put that money into make-up. Cuts were depicted as lipstick lines on characters' faces. I've seen better make-up on weekly detective shows.

One review my wife was telling me about said they wished a director had been chosen who "took risks." This is one book to movie where that sort of statement means a lot. The book is violent and gritty. The movie focused a little too much on the glitz of the capital and all the costumes instead of the characters and their struggles.

But I hate reading...

Few of my friends watched it & they said it was good movie

Well some dude at the salon was talking about it this morning. He was telling us its another teen twilight movie, so the only reason he went to see it was to get something in return from his wife. He thought it was okay but he didn't recommend it to any of us.

Hunger Games is just a re-hash of Battle Royale...

Anyways here is a provoking thought & question: Why are the books so popular? Let me preface this by saying I thought the books were a wonderful read and recommended. But my thoughts are that the protagonist is a teenager & female emphasis on female. The reason I say this is that I've read numerous books similar to this with the only difference is the lead; in addition, my friends who recommended me to read these books were mostly female similar to Twilight Series.

This quote confirms my thoughts; That women are the driving force for this book's popularity. Just like the reason Justin Bibs is popular it's because of teenage girls and girls in general. And we all know we can't say "No" to the women (Wives,daughters, GFs, FriendZone GF:bellyroll:) in our lives. Well, maybe not all of us. :iono:

The notoriety this book gets is well-earned and given it's target demographic and publisher it's actually pretty deep concerning characters, story, etc. What I'm trying to say is that its becoming more prevalent that teenagers, male & female alike, are what is driving popular culture to the point where other books don't get similar if not better notoriety. Like I written earlier I've read books that go deeper and have stronger plot lines then Hunger Games. Maybe cause I think older then I really am and enjoy reading; sometimes I wish other books would get the same acknowledgement.

I will though go see the movie soon.

Man...I just saw this movie...idk how dumb twilight is since I never saw it, but the hunger games probably couldn't be any better then twilight. I thought it sucked. this is like a kids movie

I just saw it tonight. I havnt read the book but I really liked the movie!

I have the Hunger Games on kindle.

I liked the books alot. They were some you just want to keep reading. The movie was also well done. Like most adaptions, some things were cut and others were added, but they kept the main themes and whatnot all there. I that it was fantastic and would even be tempted to see it again.
