Targa top!!
 

Hopefully Toyota sees this.. I was looking through the photochop thread and there was a photochop of the ft-86 with a targa top. It looked great! I understand people think it might add weight, but it would be a great option for people who aren't gonna care about a couple extra pounds. I personally love the way the supra and 300zx look with a targa top and the ft-86 would look great too!

Do you want a targa top, or the option for one on your FT-86??

nope, Ill be satisfied with the just the coupe. I think that kind of R&D would drive up the prices on line up overall too.

I'd be fine with a coupe, but I really wouldn't mind a targa.
It's the only kind of convertible I'd accept.

MR2's didn't have Targa's, they had T-tops. Completely different.

And no, Supra Targa's were just plain awesome.

I voted yes. Its doubtable that this car won't get some type of "top" design trim to make those types of people happy. Why not Targa? It sort of says "here's your non-hardtop sports car....but we won't do ragtops, because those are for grocery getters." (inb4 S2k)

T-tops are similar, but I'm not fond of their styling.

i voted no. my "stupid" MR2 has t-tops to keep me happy. :D

i would probably like a sunroof though.

As long as it doesn't make the car look like crap I'm all for it.

Targa is the only acceptable open top for me too but if it raises the weight I will prefer the coupe version.

No convertible. No sunroof either please. Too much weight in the wrong place and possibility for issues when the car ages.

optional. of course it's not going to be standard on all models. and quite honestly, if it's coupe only, that's fine with me also.

Those leaking issues are absurdly easy (and cheap) to fix compared to other non-hardtop types. Its just weather stripping. $15 10 minute fix.

What happens when your ragtop gets a rip in it? Completely different ballpark.

I personally do not want one, but to see one as an option would be delightful... and I may even opt for it, who knows. But at this moment, Im leaning more towards the Coupe.

I would Like one but only if can brought along in the trunk, or better yet, a hatch like the corvette. and not had to be left behind like the solstice.

No targas, conv, hardtops, t-tops... a moonroof option but thats about it . :thumbsup:

the idea of just cruising down the highway in a targa top on a bright sunny day is my ideal day for a good cruise

exactly why I'd just buy a hardtop coupe...I don't really need the wind flowing through what little hair i have left...

I was just messing. Back in the days, the sunroofs weren't made of glass but of solid metal to give it a discret look. Later on they moved to glass and added a slider visor, calling it to a moonroof since you could slide the visor back and see the night sky w/out freezing your ass off by opening it.

I had a '93 Prelude VTEC (here is an example) which had a sunroof but my '94 GSR came with a moonroof

I do want a targa top, I will be taking it to the track and all, but I'm not going to be hard racing this thing so the little bit of added wait for a targa isn't going to be that noticeable, so it will be worth it to have for when I'm not on the track.

i think the targa would be great. not so sure about that photoshop though. I'd want the back back part of the roof to come forward a bit more. no full on convertible!

Hard top or Drop top. No Targa Top for me.

I'd be ok with a T-Top... but not a Targa please -- chassis rigidity without a support up at the roof is either expensive, or heavy. Neither are good for the FT86.

As a matter of fact, assuming they keep it simple and light, I'd like a T-top. It's the best option for open air and sunshine without much weight at all.

I doubt Toyota would produce a Targa top version, that was a fad that came and went in the 90's. But, I suppose that for all of you that really want a Targa top you could make one yourself with a Sawzall, liberal application of fiberglass, and some weatherstripping from Home Depot.

Toyota NEEDS to make a production car with that roof, but I think the Mechanism might be too bulky for the FT-86.

The FT-HS is not that bulky, I still believe that the price is the main obstacle that this type of sliding roof has to overcome.
As for the targa top, I must say that I love the targa top Supra, the targa top Corvette or the targa top 300SX, I'm not so sure if it would look as good on the FT-86, however we will have to wait and see if Toyota will make a targa top version of the car or a classic convertible .:iono:

I voted no because I don't even use the moonroof on my car now so I wouldn't get one; but, if you guys want a targa top I think it would be a much more acceptable option over a ragtop.

FT-HS, the best looking Toyota ever. PERIOD.

I would use a T top alot on summer days and warm nites.
I was always opening the sun roof on my old SVX except in winter.

Good point about the cost. Also, I meant bulky with repect to weight, not just size. The FT-HS is about half a foot longer than the 86, taller and wider too.

I agree with matador, I would say save this and throw it on a new supra, where the added weight from something like that wouldn't bother it as much as with the 86.

Although I do agree that is an amazing looking car and I think that top would be pure sex.
