Will ultramarine be discontinued?

So I was reading that the Subaru version of our ultramarine (galaxy blue) will be discontinued for 2014. Will the frs keep the ultramarine color for 2014?

Asphalt 08-10-2013 02:41 PM

where did you get that info?

and if that is true, then yes the FRS will lose the color as well. Subaru's plant makes all cars and provides all paint (besides hot lava)

Subaru will discontinue it, but that doesn't mean Scion will. I hope they replace it with another color (yellow)

kALMIGHTY 08-10-2013 02:57 PM

Honestly, I hope does. That'll make my car really rare here in Canada. I got one of the last Ultramarine's with the upgraded audio, and the TRD intake, both of which are no longer available in Canada. So if the color is gone too, that'll make mine even more special considering Ultramarine is already a rare color here. (I've only seen one other Ultramarine on the road since they came out last year).

But at the same time, it doesn't have to be true. Just because the BRZ no longer has that color doesn't mean the FR-S won't.
In Canada, we never had the option of GBS for BRZ's but we still had Ultramarine for the FR-S even though they're the same color. Maybe they're just doing that in the States now as well. Subaru gets to keep their WRB, and Scion gets to keep the Ultramarine so each has an exclusive blue.

Also could mean bad news for ultramarines owners. If Toyota releases TRD kit in the future, it wont be prepainted ultramarine if its discontinued.

Oh noooooooooo! :bellyroll:

Subaru has the WRB though, which is a really popular color. I think Scion will keep the Ultramarine or they would have no blue...

I pick my Ultramarine blue FR-S up from Milton Toyota on Monday :)

Is it a completely bone stock Ultramarine or does it have upgrades like TRD intake and Premium Pioneer audio?

I took a sip of water as I was scrolling this thread, and this made me spit h20 all over my monitor.

:thanks:

I have only seen one ultramarine FR-S where I live, however, literally every single BRZ I have encountered has been galaxy blue or wrb. Maybe the other BRZ colors aren't selling and they are taking drastic measures! :D

Bone stock, I don't really care much about stereo systems so the stock head unit is fine, I can plug in an iPod so that's good enough.

As for the TRD intake isn't that a dealer install option anyway?

Yes it is, or order it yourself online

Wolfking 08-11-2013 09:15 PM

It's just as well. I wanted a blue FRS, but felt it was a few shades too dark. An FRS in a nice Civic SI blue might have done it for me.

dem00n 08-11-2013 10:29 PM

Well i might as well give my 3 cents on this topic.

If you ask me, this car looks best in Ultramarine, its the perfect shade of dark blue.

But of course no one asked me so i'll just go back to my ball bearings now.

Oh and if they discontinue this color then i'm going to go on the forum and yell/type MY CAR IS SO FUCKING RARE YOU CAN'T BUY IT ANYMORE, BETTER THAN BRZ!

phloozy 08-11-2013 11:11 PM

my car might become rare? love it!

dabocx 08-11-2013 11:26 PM

I hope so! Im a little bias though since I own one

Wise 08-11-2013 11:32 PM

They should replace Ultramarine with a lighter blue and DGM with a more gunmetal grey color.

Also add yellow.

On the Canadian website, it isn't available as a dealer option anymore either. They had it up for a few weeks a couple of months back, but they took it down. Originally we thought it was because they were out of stock, but that's not the case because my dealer just happened to have one left in stock that they installed on my car prior to delivery.

agreed. the blue posted in the early catalog images looked brighter and bolder, which actually had me debating between white and blue. but when i saw the cars in person, the blue was a bit of a let down. so i went with white. no regrets!

Wise 08-12-2013 12:45 AM

Ultramarine looks great under direct sunlight but bland at night and on non sunny days.

If I lived in a sunnier state I'd probably get it.

TCHawk 08-12-2013 01:48 PM

Huh, that's a pity if it does get discontinued. I really dig my Ultramarine. Waited a few months just to get the color. Happy I got it before the color went away at least :)

MyRx 08-12-2013 01:56 PM

Been contemplating on getting mine wrapped. Maybe a confirmation from Toyota/Scion will do the trick. After all, 10 new FRS landed at the nearest dealership, 2 10-Series and not a single ultramarine.

Agreed. Direct light is pretty great as it shows off the depth of the color, all the metallic flake. But at dusk, where most cars look pretty brilliant, I wasn't a huge fan. It was a bit dull.

I'll third that, and add that it looks great under bright lights at night (like when fuelling up at the local gas bar).

Turbowned 08-12-2013 08:13 PM

Galaxy Blue/Ultramarine is the best color. I might be slightly biased here ;)

I actually love how clouds look in GBS/Ultramarine. Yes, I did slightly play with the contrast and saturation on this.

I can't express my utter disappointment in regards to that enough. /s

mswhong 08-30-2013 04:03 AM

They definitely either changed it or discontinued it in Australia... I haven't seen another galaxy blue ft86 for at least 6 month.

CyberCT 08-30-2013 05:53 PM

I really like this car in blue. I was actually wanting to bite the bullet and buy one in that color. Too bad!

forzajuve 08-30-2013 06:19 PM

I love my ultramarine. It is the perfect combination of classy meets sexy meets manly. If it is discontinued it will make Ultramarine 86 even more desirable and rare. Whatever works :D

Chef 08-30-2013 06:44 PM

I wouldn't mind if they discontinued making it in Ultramarine. It'd be a very rare color in the near future.

WhiteRose 02-14-2014 03:27 PM

Its been rumored. I went to the rosemead frs meet and a toyota corporate member even said they might discontinue the color not saying who though

Ultramarine is a fantastic color, and one of my favorites. That would be a shame if they discontinued it.

I assumed that they discontinued it for the BRZ because they had two blue options, and it seems like (in general) when a car company offers two different shades of the same color one of them tends to only be around for a limited time.

Being that WRB was so popular, it would make sense that they chose to discontinue the GBS, but yeah - they didn't end up releasing a new color to replace it, so their choice to discontinue it for the BRZ is still unclear to me.

GET OUT!!!! :bonk: :) I'm kidding. I see someone mentioned his. Sorry.

stock 02-14-2014 03:43 PM

Actually Id dig it if they discontinued Ultramarine. That would make ours special. Seriously. Harder to find. Worth a few bux more. Not seeing yourself go down the street so much.
