BRZ in April GQ

Didn't find anything GQ related in a search, so here you guys go!

Good write up. Interesting "grandparents".

M-17 03-21-2012 04:16 PM

Nice to see GQ get in the mix for reviews of the BRZ.

Canibuz 03-21-2012 04:19 PM

Que up the "I don't always drive in a suit, but when I do I am drifting a BRZ" dos equis meme

dsgerbc 03-21-2012 04:20 PM

People still read GQ? ;)

Snoopyalien24 03-21-2012 04:21 PM

Nice so a confirmation (sort of) of the 0-60mph - it's not bad

I hear wider performance tires can fix that...

...and a turbo too *trollface*

Thanks for this lol

SUB-FT86 03-21-2012 04:23 PM

Wow! 6.2 seconds is great for this car.

OrbitalEllipses 03-21-2012 05:40 PM

It's GQ, I wouldn't trust their 0-60.

Turbowned 03-21-2012 05:52 PM

It's written by Jamie Kitman, who is a chief writer for Automobile magazine. So yes, you can trust the 0-60 lol. He writes all the dry-humorous articles at the beginning of each issue.

feedbag 03-21-2012 05:54 PM

I've seen 0 - 60 in 6.2 seconds in other places as well.

:word: I highly doubt the top speed is 125 mph either, lol.

i believe it! thats not so high for a type of car like this...I believe the limit probably around 138mph before the ECU starts kicking in....

my Evo10 "says" 180mph but i went up to 155mph on the race course...stock everything not even a tune...

Most cars are electronically limited to 155 in the US. My Speed3 (pre-AccessPort) hit 155 and just bounced like a rev limiter. Post-tune it hits 180 just fine.

EDIT: Miss-spoke, meant to say most cars, not all cars. There's a wide variance in electronic limited, but the majority tends to be around 155.

ZetaVI 03-21-2012 07:33 PM

Pretty unique article to the others. I guess the choice of words.

KevinDuMa 03-21-2012 08:07 PM

I thought I was going to see a picture of a guy in a suit and tie driving the car...

Longhorn248 03-21-2012 08:12 PM

Nice little write up. The suspense is building for sure.

I doubt that the BRZ will do over 145mph. Maybe close to 140mph on a good day with the wind pushing. LOL Also, the car is probably limited from the factory to something in the 110's.

Mazdaspeed3 hitting 180? As in MPH? Please tell me you aren't basing that off of a dyno. Right?

Maybe IL uses metric?

Hell no way. I was born and grew up in IL. ;) No way stock gearing gets up to 180mph and no way a "post-tune" gets you there either.

That is not true for all cars. Some are limited to 130. Some are limited to 155. Others have no limited speed. Companies limit the top speed due to liability, warranty and not having to design cars with brakes and tires that could stand going over the limited speed.

powertrip 03-21-2012 10:12 PM

It's also very easy for your aftermarket tuners to remove said limit with a reflash. It generally comes standard in a basic flash.

I'm not "stock with a tune", and yeah gearing does cut out around 178, but close enough, eh?

Neat article though, I like writers with a sense of humor who can have fun with their reviews instead of just dry, boring facts.

So 178mph on a closed road course? Like the salt flats?

Or are you saying 178mph when you put your car on a dyno?

my frieands 2010 mustang is limitied to 120:bellyroll:

my speedo says 160 but ive only managed 151

im pushing 18x whp to the ground and about 138 lbft and i got 151

145 doesnt seem impossible, i would check the speed ratings on the tire before i went and took it for a top speed run

i purposely put tires with a 120mph speed limit on my car so i stopped speeding so much lol..

Hey, at least Japan dropped the stupid 180kmh (112mph) gentleman's agreement they had for so long. You wanna talk about sucky limiters!

Oh how I wish my S4 weren't limited to 155mph.... speedo goes to 200, gearing tops it at ~180.

Lost 03-22-2012 08:21 PM

I read somewhere that top speed is redline limiter, err, limited at ~136mph.
