Your first time?

Going sideways?

What car was it in?

Where was it?

You have to be the driver and it can be by accident or on purpose.

And why did the topic title sound like i'm asking you about your first time having sex?

Have a nice day.

VenaSera 08-01-2013 05:03 PM

What? Turbo 1st gen Miata. Where? Everywhere.

sklimo 08-01-2013 05:04 PM

HAHA I was wondering where you were going with this!!!!!!!!

1978 280Z
Oakwood GA.

OrbitalEllipses 08-01-2013 05:05 PM

Intentionally, unintentionally, as a driver, as a passenger?

Clarify your request.

Leonardo 08-01-2013 05:23 PM

1977 Doge farm truck.

Age 12. 21 years ago.

Field with a fence post. Ouch!

I smashed the bed right behind the cab almost to the frame. It was a big fence post. Then had to go tell my dad. Its funny now, but was not at the time.

I didn't know anything about sex at the time... But would have still got the innuendo made by your title.

It can have intent or be out of random, just has to be the first time you went sideways period.

As a driver, passenger is easy. Just take the drift cab in NYC....

enwave 08-01-2013 05:29 PM

Not a cool story, but a 2000 528i, intentional. Was just playing around. That's what got me more confident in RWD cars, it was a pretty easy car to drive.

f0rge 08-01-2013 05:38 PM

What: 1989 F150 with a 5.0L inline 6 that made approx 54hp.

When: Circa 1998 when my brother and I had just gotten our licenses and my dad thought it would be a good idea to make his beautiful children nearly kill themselves driving a rusted out POS on bald tires all winter instead of his much nicer and much safer Explorer. THANKS DAD!

RurumariGhost 08-01-2013 05:39 PM

What car was it in?
'96 jeep grand cherokee laredo
Where was it?
The parking lot at my college was a dirt lot, and every lot/road when it snowed...who uses 4wd in the snow when its rwd by default?

bkblitzed 08-01-2013 05:45 PM

i was like 16 or 17 in highschool. Learned to scandinavian flick in my 91 m5

I had fun driving a city police car for seven years in the suburbs of Detroit.

High School with my 2002 Grand Prix at the schools parking lot. Winter blizzard and a bunch of my buddies went out to have fun.

Miniata 08-01-2013 06:16 PM

1976 AMC Pacer. More fun to drive than to look at with a straight six and a 4-speed manual trans. Lost control coming in too hot into the gravel driveway at my high school. Ended up hitting a tree (dead center front bumper) to avoid the oncoming school bus.

mechaghost 08-01-2013 06:22 PM

Dirtfish Rally Car (I think it was a 2008 sti sedan)
Snoqualmie Wa, (where DirtFish teaches)

It was frakking sweet going sideways and flicking a car you dont have to worry about destroying :)

My WRX when I was 17. Little too much throttle in the rain. Oversteered into oncoming traffic and overcorrected off the right side of the road. Needed a new bumper, radiator, and another couple odds and ends.

Shagaliscious 08-01-2013 06:56 PM

91 Prelude
Williamsport, PA

Snow and the parking brake helped to get the car sideways.

Kelbyat07 08-01-2013 06:59 PM

Scion FRS on an empty curvy road. Hell yeahhh.

kALMIGHTY 08-01-2013 07:07 PM

Scion FR-S during the test drive of my actual car.
I was learning how to drive a manual and while taking an exit off the highway, accidentally downshifted a gear without rev matching and the revs jumped enough for the back end to kick out.
First time I've been scared by a car, but it was awesome!

Conn 08-01-2013 07:11 PM

In the backseat of my GF's truck....:happyanim:

Oh wait, sorry:bonk:

G37 in the rain during a hard turn at an intersection:thumbsup:

2003 Mitsu Evo VIII

Met up with a group of guys on a side street in an industrial area. I didn't want to be there because that kinda stuff is why we have a bad name and the police paint targets on us but I was.

Large group taking turns racing down the street. 15 minutes or so and then cops start coming from every direction... I ran to my car, dropped my keys on the way and had to turn around which only made me more panicked, and tore out of the parking lot so fast I pulled a long and scary four wheeled drift...

I made it away and have successfully avoided that scene for several years since.

Dimman 08-01-2013 07:57 PM

Civic hatch, learning to drive. Turned in too fast from asphalt to gravel. Ass end swung out. Over corrected and snapped the other way. Ended up sideways in the road (empty logging road). Buddy teaching me practically shit his pants but I was pretty thrilled.

Yes, a FWD Honda Civic hatchback.

Yes, a FWD Honda Civic hatchback.

What: 2001 Civic EX sedan with RSX-S rear sway bar as the only mod
Where: Public road, tried going round a corner at about 15 mph over the posted limit, ass end swung out. I recovered, luckily.

I was 16 and dumb. Lucky, but dumb.

Celica00 08-01-2013 08:46 PM

1st time. accident. 98 civic. sideways down the freeway after losing control during a rain storm. (only going 45 miles at time of incident) never driving fast in rain EVER

Dimman 08-01-2013 09:15 PM

FWD drifting FTW...

gatorbushmen 08-01-2013 09:17 PM

2003 Dodge Dakota V6.
Intentional.
Was leaving the school parking lot after cross country practice.... Just got done raining.

Took the corner, gunned it, went sideways :D

Faceless 08-01-2013 11:05 PM

93' MX-3, that ebrake was trash when I got rid of the car. 16yo and not caring what happened to the car made for many a fun fwd drifts. Hell I even got the damn thing to do donuts from time to time. So much carbon back up after donuts that it'd be blowing smoke for a week afterwards.

wrxgoose 08-01-2013 11:47 PM

'98 4Runner, icy road, hit another car and ended up backwards in my lane. still the first time going sideways.

SP86 08-06-2013 01:15 PM

Going sideways?

About a month after I got into my car on the first rainy day with me owning it...nearly 4 years ago now.

What car was it in?

My FI 2.6L Mitsubishi Starion

Where was it?

One of the largest intersections in my part of town. Was pretty awesome making that left completely sideways.

1988 Nissan Laurel C32 Genereation
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...l_C32_rear.jpg

The car had a V6 Jet Turbo, RWD, lol so much fun

The VG20ET was based on the VG20E, but with a turbocharger. The VG20ET produces 170 hp (130 kW). This SOHC motor debuted at the same time as the VG20E. Also coming with the Y30, this motor was known as the "Jet Turbo", and came with the Nissan Leopard models XS, and XS-II Grand Selection. Contrary to the VG30ET that came out in the US, the VG20ET came with an intercooler in certain models to push the horsepower output to 155 hp (116 kW), a great jump from the normally aspirated VG20E. The turbo included with the VG20ET had two different settings. At low speeds, the turbo's wastegate would stay closed improving the response at low rpm. At high speeds, the flap would stay open, decreasing resistance and increasing exhaust flow. At its maximum flow, the flap would open at an angle of 27 degrees, while the A/R ranged from 0.21–0.77. Being that the VG20ET had a short stroke (78x69.7 mm), it was thought to have insufficient low end torque. Nevertheless, the VG20ET was a great improvement over the VG20E.

16 Years old, car full of 5 noobs, on snow, went sideways into a snowbank otw to lunch lol...

My grandfathers 79 F150 when I was 7, we were on a fishing trip near a friend of his farm and the lights were left on draining the battery. We walked to his friends shop to get a work truck to jump it with. Since the walk was about a mile and a half he decided I should drive his truck back to the shop. He gave me a quick tutorial and turned me loose.

1978 in my fathers Volvo 244 GT, two weeks after I got my driving license.
Highway covered with ice, no winter tires, hard on the pedal, went sideways for a long way before hitting the fence and then losing control altogether. Father not happy at all...

sprintertrueno86 08-06-2013 04:04 PM

91 Corolla (RIP)

9-10yrs ago, down the street from my house. Went sideways on icy road but quickly straightened out, got home and did my HW.

M-17 08-07-2013 12:23 AM

I was young and stupid.

The first time I did this was in a Pontiac Gran Prix.

I'd tell you guys my story but I'm not sure I should repeat it.

dagame 08-07-2013 12:33 AM

'06 volvo s60 wet road, turned in too quickly on a street and the rear end swung out making me slide through the corner before hitting the sidewalk

AlanLGuy 08-12-2013 11:31 AM

2000 Kia Sedona minivan a week before my 18th birthday. I was driving through my neighborhood when I unexpectedly hit a patch of ice. Freaked out a bit and pressed the brake a little too hard, the front of the car stopped, but the rear kept going. The rear swung out and clipped a Pontiac Gran Am parked on the side of the road.

The pontiac had been in a wreck a month earlier and totaled by the insurance company. The poor owner had finished repairs and was just walking out if the house to take it to get the title reinstated. I broke his rear taillight, put a dent in the drivers side quarter and broke his bumper cover. My mothers minivan got a nasty dent in the passenger quarter.

The second time I got sideways was when I killed my 2000 Celica GT-S in 2009. Driving in back roads in rain, dropped down into a valley and the rain started to freeze, hit a patch of ice (damn Ohio weather) and did several impressive front wheel drive drifts before being stopped by the thinnest telephone pole ever. Pushed the frame of the car in about a 6 inches, shattered the passenger side window and flattened a tire.

Drove the car home 70 miles the next day and parked it in my parents driveway until summer when I swapped about 70% of the car into the worst condition 7th gen Celica I've ever seen. 4 years later and my rust-bucket Frankenstein is still kicking as my daily driver.

'99 Ford Escort( ), accidental, no damage.

A Saturday after a hard frost Friday night, I was going to breakfast in the AM when I made the turn (not overly speeding) and was suddenly going sideways due to what probably was black ice. Instinct took over and I drifted perfectly through the turn and was going straight by the time I was on the road I was turning onto. I didn't need coffee a breakfast that morning ;)

Propaganda 08-12-2013 12:05 PM

First time going sideways, I was in middle school and was in an old corolla in the snow for some fun (I wasn't driving).

First time I spun wheels was in my 1974 911 (needs a lot of work, now :( )

First time I went sideways was in my '08 tc (lol) at an autocross (I had a thick rear sway and was transitioning to a sharp turn from a slalom)

I've generally tried to be good about it in the frs, with most sideways action just being in the snow around where I lived, if no one else was on the road. Other than that, it's just been slight rotation in autocross. No hooning for me.
