2.89 Kentucky Kroger. And your 91 is more expensive than my 93

Those Meddling Kids 07-28-2013 01:48 AM

2.49/gallon

Anthony 07-28-2013 02:18 AM

What?! E85 is cheaper?! This is crazy. I mean, I understand why corn juice would be cheaper than refined dinosaurs, but from a going-fast perspective, I just figured E85 would be more expensive. I'd never seen an E85 pump in detail until now. Mississippi's behind, as always.

JiB 07-28-2013 07:36 AM

E85 $1.40 AUD per Litre ($1.40x3.78541) = $5.30 AUD per Galon = $4.91US p.G

Grab the octane app. It's not complete, but it has a lot of fuel stations. I saw 85 here for 2.57 yesterday. 93 was 4.39

chutrain 07-28-2013 07:17 PM

I got two about 15 minutes away. One is about 3.55 and the other is 3.649. Price is in NY.

FR-S Matt 07-28-2013 11:20 PM

3.01 at HEB in Austin, TX. Regular 87 octane was 3.36 today and 93 octane was 3.66.

mad_sb 07-29-2013 12:02 PM

3.49 /gallon at the chevron in duluth ga.

Your tax money helps subsidize the cost. The fossil stuff has a lot of taxes added on. It's actually cheaper to drill and refine oil/gasoline, we just tax the heck out of it.

Anthony 07-29-2013 01:42 PM

Yei guvment!

feldy 07-29-2013 03:05 PM

$2.99 a gallon, but the pigswill can be found for $3.31 a gallon. $3.52 for Premium.

Actually, Corn Ethanol is cheaper to grow and distill than Gasoline. From actually looking into current costs and the market. Due to a difference in BTU content and market prices, it varies which is cheaper to use on a cost per mile basis. E85 is taxed too and some states even tax E85 by gallon instead of by BTU content. Making the effective tax higher than Gasoline.

Saying E85 is heavily subsidized while Gasoline is heavily taxed is ridiculous, IMHO. They're both fairly heavily taxed at the pump and they both receive subsidies. Which is more is heavily debated but saying one is subsidized when the other is heavily taxed? That is clear personal bias.

Or e85prices.com where there is a community with an active forum that keeps up on new/removed stations. They have some regulars to check prices but they need more in certain areas.

Factory stock the car is tuned for E10. An aftermarket tune is essential if you want to run E85.

Local E85 on the goldcoast Australia is currently $1.42L AUD (Premium Pump is at around $1.80/L) But our fuel prices vary wildly over a week, sometimes upto 20c/L

So near on $6 US a Gallon here in Aussie Land.

As for Fuel Consumption. I do a near bang on 50/50 mix of highway and very very hard driving.

On premium pump i was at around 7-8L/100km
On E85 i am now at around 10-11L/100km.

So overall the price per km/mile is around the same give or take. I just visit the station more often to fill up. No biggie considering the benefits :)

spitfire481 04-01-2014 11:38 AM

$3.59 in annapolis

fooddude 04-01-2014 12:50 PM

What happens if your car is tuned for e85, then all of a sudden due to some unforeseen circumstances (like during a far roadtrip, or middle of the late night, or driving to a far away track day, or driving out of state, etc., etc.) you find yourself needing to fuel up in an unfamiliar or remote area but can only find reg gas...will your e85 tuned car still run on reg gas in case of emergencies? If not, then an e85 tuned/running car seems like a big hassle and handicap.

Also, anyone know where to get e85 in south orange county ca?? I see there's 1 in fullerton in one of the previous links; but a bit far.
