TRD exhaust resonator delete?

Is this the most dumb question ever? My buddy has an STI with cosworth exhaust and now that the resonator has been removed, the sound is just awesome. Anyone done this with the TRD exhaust?

Thanks

roswell huh? im here in ABQ. but im not sure. I have the trd exhaust also, but the way I see it, is they placed it there for a reason. if somebody gets rid of it, it can either screw up the performance aspect and or sound quality.

pcporo 07-23-2013 01:20 AM

yea i don't know how it would change the performance, but i'm thinking i may like the sound change

FriedRicr 07-23-2013 01:33 AM

I have the TRD exhaust too! ... i'm stick around and see if anyone has done it! curious to know!

pcporo 07-23-2013 02:17 AM

yea i'll wait for a bit to see in anyone has done it, otherwise I may just go ahead and be the first

kALMIGHTY 07-23-2013 02:32 AM

Someone please be the first and post results. I don't want to do that to my brand new FR-S just yet lol.

where is the resonator on the trd exhaust? is it in the back near tips or ar the beginning of the pipe that kind of looks like a small cat?

not near the tips. here circled

Keep in mind your buddies STI has a turbo which will act like a muffler/resonator on it's own. Without a resonator you might find the TRD exhaust gets raspy.

IMO, leave the resonator, removing it won't make your exhaust sound like a turbo engine with a UEL manifold at all.

What i'm hoping for is to gain a crackle like sound when downshifting or letting of the gas and some added volume. Been searching around everywhere I can think of and don't know if removing the resonator will do either because of the cats.

Considered this idea also, but worried it may become to raspy. Ended up going to with a catted Perrin front pipe. Got what I wanted, louder and a new found growl.

Just replace the front pipe. :)

pcporo 07-24-2013 09:55 PM

@lazyluka catted or not catted front pipe?

Would you be kind enough to post a video of it?

pcporo 08-13-2013 10:34 PM

ok so to update, I did not delete my resonator. I did just install the Invidia catless front pipe and it fit perfectly to both the stock over pipe and TRD exhaust. Very pleased with the sound it makes as well. Kept the same type of sound if that makes any sense lol. But starting with cold start it is MUCH louder. However when all warmed up it settles down to very close the low volume as before the front pipe. Just a bit of a deeper tone tho. Cruising around it is a bit louder and deeper but when stepping on the gas it sounds much much louder and rumbly. Very happy with it. I don't have a go pro or anything to make a video, but i'll see if I can't find a way.

What the diameter of the TRD mid pipe?
I read it wasn't 2.5” so I was thinking of getting it custom made with a glass pack or something

trd exhaust reso delete

This coming monday im going to take the resonator off my TRD exhaust (already got a secondary cat delete). Ill post a video if you would like. Also my friend has a manual frs with stock exhaust but he got a resonator delete and a muffler delete. His car pops loudly when down shifting or letting off the gas.

Replacing a resonator with a "glass pack" (do you mean a cherry bomb?) is counter productive unless you want to possibly quiet it down.

If you're wanting to increase volume, and possibly raise the pitch of the exhaust note you just want to replace the resonated pipe with straight tubing.

Or add larger piping in the mid-pipe with a big high flow resonator....
