Mishimoto Oil Cooler - Anyone running one?

You can get them at a significant discount relative to the Perrin kit. Just curious if anyone is running one and if there are any drawbacks?

mrk1 07-22-2013 05:46 PM

all i know is that mishimoto has a great warranty program

We're putting one on our silver race car. :)

We've looked it over and the kit will do just fine for the lapping and events we do with the car. Really like the kit overall.

xjohnx 07-22-2013 05:56 PM

What's the lowest you're seeing them for? So far it seems to be about $100 cheaper than Perrin, not sure if i'm missing some sales elsewhere though.

Superhatch 07-22-2013 05:58 PM

I've run their radiators on my other builds and always liked their quality and reliability.

It doesn't mention being thermostated, can anyone confirm that it is or isn't? It may explain some of the price difference.

it's not thermostated, I ordered the black one, but its on backorder rightnow until 27th, the silver is instock

chadstyle 08-11-2013 06:55 PM

Swift, I know I'm bringing back an old thread but if you're still looking, FA20Club has them for $489. I ordered one in black and it should be in this week. I have no need for a thermostat living in South Florida and I know Perrin has been fixing a leaky batch so this is the best deal going so far.

If you already installed an oil cooler sorry for the late input. Was searching the forums to see if others have installed already looking for some feedback and came across this thread.

b2autodesigns 08-11-2013 07:40 PM

I have a Mishimoto silver oil cooler kit in stock. Low price too. Message me if you are looking for one.

Thanks
Charles

Yeah, I ordered a Perrin one in black. I haven't been happy with FA20club's quality (my front pipe must have been welded by the local school for the gifted). In addition, it takes more than 5 weeks to receive an order. If they were local to me, I would have considered.

Lol well no "gifted" kids will be welding the oil cooler :)

Are the Perrin coolers off backorder now?

They are again shipping. I get mine tomorrow. Hopefully I don't have any issues. I would have rather gone with a Setrab core but oh well.

Good luck! The guys at Perrin are awesome and they stand behind their parts so I'm sure it will be great. I'll have mine in a couple days so cooler temps are ahead for both of us ;)

Who did you order yours from and when did you order it?

I've been waiting for @FT-86 SpeedFactory to get one of the new pressure tested kits in and shipped since I ordered from them June 26th.

I hope it is compatible. i dont see why not, just replace the one that came with the kit with http://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-t...ich-plate.html and call it a day?

can any vendors chime in on this? ive pm'd mishimoto here but i still have to get an answer (been 2 weeks now). it would help get this product out of the shelves because i know people would want the option to have the thermostat especially if you live up north where you get actual 'seasons'.

I got mine from Pure Automotive. My Perrin intake is coming from FT-86 SpeedFactory and I haven't got tracking yet.

Its a 19 row compared to the perrin which I believe is a 13 row.

Hey guys, just wanted to jump in here and help answer any product questions you may have.

To answer the thermostatic question, no our thermostatic sandwich plate will not work with this kit. The reason being, is that there is not enough clearance from the oil filter housing to the intake box. We are working on a solution for this, and should be expected by winter time for those of you who live in cold climates.

If you have an aftermarket intake which gives you more room than the factory intake box, then it is a possibility that our thermostatic plate will fit.

Hope this helps! :)

If have a top mounted turbo will the thermostatic plate fit? Thats really my deciding factor on getting this kit. Would definitely prefer to have a thermostatic sandwich plate.

mtsui 08-16-2013 12:57 AM

Finally just got my oil cooler in after the long wait, however my supplier sent me the wrong color and if i want to exchange it, its another 5 weeks of wait, so I don't wanna bother to exchange it, but overall the product looks good.
there is the picture of the product.

This kit has been extremely successful, and we have been having trouble keeping up with the demand. Everything should be back in stock in about 2 weeks! :)

I purchased a Mishimoto oil cooler from @FA20Club.com and I was initially really impressed with the sandwich plate and other CNC parts. The banjo fittings felt a little cheap but everything else looked really nice.

I installed the kit, mind you that you have no instructions at all other than a horribly made video, and it wasn't anything complicated. Install went smooth and I took it for a ride. Everything was great.

Next day and I take the car out again. It starts smoking at a light really bad from under the hood. I pull over to find that it looks like it's leaking from the two hex bolts on either side of the sandwich plate. I check both and they are tight. I pull apart the whole sandwich plate setup and apply teflon tape to the two hex set screw bolts and put the whole thing back together. Problem solved and back to driving the car. All is good..for now.

I run a few errands and take the wife out for date night. Mind you that every single stop I'm popping the hood and checking for leaks. All is dry with no oil leaking. We finish up dinner and run a couple errands and eventually come home. On the way down our street the hood starts pouring out smoke. I pull in the driveway as I kill the motor and coast it in. Pop the hood to see oil EVERYWHERE!! I mean EVERYWHERE!!!!!!! Both of the cheap anodized banjo fittings have come loose. I spend two hours cleaning everything up and torque the fittings down to spec. Start the car and all looks good...for now.

This morning I decided to take the car to @FA20Club.com shop for him and the crew to inspect. I live about 5 minutes away so it's a short drive. In the 5 miles on the way there I lost a ton of oil again. I'm beyond pissed at this point and hope that the guys at the shop find something stupid and say "hey idiot, look what you missed here" but that wasn't the case. The guys at the shop were very patient and methodical and put the car on the lift and started the install again from scratch. They thoroughly cleaned the belly pan of my car and all of the parts that were coated in oil. Such a mess and even more of a safety hazard. They put everything together and tell me to take it around the block. On my way down the street in 3rd gear a huge cloud of smoke came out of the front of the car..I knew right away it happened again.

The guys at the shop all complimented my install and how clean it was. I went out of my way to make it extra nice just as I do with any part I install on any car. That's just me and what I do. Toni decided he wanted a crack at it and he started messing around under the hood. I arrived at the shop at 9 AM and we are now at 3 PM. He gets it a little better but not perfect..still dripping oil under load. The problem is that we can't tell if it's the banjo fitting or the sandwich plate as it only leaks under load. We replaced the washers on the banjo fittings with copper washers so they would crush and seal a little better but that didn't seem to help.

I told Toni that I purchased the oil cooler for better reliability, not to make the car Unreliable! He agreed 100% (he has been awesome since day one, not a single complaint about @FA20Club.com or his crew!) and he called up the distributor for the part. They emailed support and CC'd him on the email..the email said "we have another leaking oil cooler, this makes two. Please advise" and that was it. They are out of stock so I had him call Mishimoto direct..this is where the story takes a turn for the worse..as if it wasn't bad enough already.

Some jerk named Pat answered the call at Mishimoto. He was rude from the beginning of the call to the minute Toni hung up. He basically blamed all the problems on the install without even hearing what Toni had to say. We requested a new set of banjo fittings and a sandwich plate so we can hopefully fix the problem. Pat said that they don't have any inventory either. No inventory at the distributor and none at Mishimoto either. He asked Toni to go run my car again until it spewed hot oil all over the hot engine and then take a picture. REALLY? I wasn't ready for Car-B-Que round 2 so we refused. He then tells us that they are in the process of moving and couldn't give us an ETA of parts or when they will even be shipping again!! I already waited for 2 and 1/2 weeks for the cooler and now that it's defective they can't even fix it. Not only can't they fix it, they can't even tell us when they will have more so they can!! The guy was a total prick and I have never heard a company treat a shop selling it's parts so poorly, especially in front of the customer!

So @Mishimoto..is this how you deal with all of your vendors? How bout customers, do you treat them like shit too? At least when Borla had issues with their header they admitted fault and took care of those of us that had an issue. They made the best of a bad situation and have made me a customer for life because of the way they handled the situation. @Mishimoto has done the complete opposite..they added insult to injury.

I would suggest that anyone looking at oil coolers for their car absolutely get one and install it asap. The results are amazing. Just don't buy the Mishimoto one..buy Perrin or another reputable brand that actually cares about their customers and stand behind their products.

Thank you for your reply and I look forward to resolving the problem. I hope to hear back from you today with tracking info for the replacement parts.

Thanks again.

chadstyle 09-04-2013 09:41 AM

It's only fair that I update this thread as well. Tyler has been fantastic and the total opposite from our experience with Pat. He has emailed me with tracking info for new parts and overnighted the parts so my car isn't down any longer. The parts will be here today and I am extremely hopeful that they solve my issues. The only thing he didn't have in stock were replacement hoses. He wants to cover all bases and prevent any potential leaks so I truly appreciate his attention to detail. The new sandwich plate and spacer plates are redesigned with a new o ring seal and he has indicated that all new kits will be receiving the updated parts from here on out.

As I stated in my original post...I was REALLY impressed by the quality of the parts in the kit. The only thing that felt a little cheap were the banjos. I was so bummed when we called (after days of trying to solve the issue without involving @Mishimoto) and we were treated so poorly. This is my first experience with Mishimoto and even though I received a defective part, I still would've been 100% happy if we received this support originally. I'm confident that Tyler is going to get this resolved however.

Hello,

We responded in the other thread you posted in regarding this! Also copied this below.

Sorry for the issues you are having! Is this leak coming from below the lower CNC spacer? It may be wise to remove the assembly, check the o-ring for damage, clean everything off, and reinstall. Please be sure to lubricate all o-rings before installation (with fresh oil) and follow the appropriate torque specs for the center bolt.

If you do find damage to the o-ring, send us a PM or contact our warranty department and we will have a new one sent out.

Let us know!
