Broadway Rearview Mirrors
I know many of you have Broadway mirrors, and I just wanted to see what people think about them and which they would recommend. I am thinking about purchasing a 300mm one (not convex) to try and eliminate those damn blind spots. I havent pulled the trigger yet because after doing a search, I noticed many people have the 300mm convex...im just worried about how distorted everything will look.
Also whats your opinion on blue tinted broadway mirrors? Will 300mm hit your sun visors? |
400mm convex in both of my cars. Never drive with out one, and for your purpose of eliminating blind spots the convex ones are better

won't this pretty much make your heated mirrors effective cancelled out?

Not sure the size of the OEM one, but the Prova unit installs right over the stock mirror. I have a much greater field of view and the blue tint helps with glare at night. I have the T1R side convex mirrors with blue tint as well.
I like the wide angle of view, and don't stare at my mirrors while I drive. I use the mirrors to basically tell me, Shit you got something there, do not attempt to occupy the same volume of space and time. http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Prov...2-2011-WRX-STI |

i had both the smaller one (straight/blue tint) and the 300mm concave. I think the visibility of the flat one made everything "bigger" and the concave makes things a bit further away. But I like the concave as preference

Go convex, you get more vision compared to the straight one. It doesn't take much to get used to it. I love my convex one, wish it was 300mm though.

my mirror just lets me see more of my own interior....

With a light window tint or no tint, I love the blue tint on the mirrors. Right now, I have the blue-tinted side view mirrors + tinted windows and I find it a bit hard to see at night. I drive fine and everything, but I think if I could choose, I would go for the non-blue tint (due to my windows already being tinted.). |
I'm looking to buy the braodway 300mm convex from PWDJDM .. anyone know if its the same broadway or something different? i'm new to this stuff. and its on salde for like 19 bucks!

On my old Maxima, I had a 300mm straight Broadway mirror. It was pretty good and I liked it a lot - you could adjust it so that both C-pillars were visible in it, giving you the entire view of the rear of the car, not just the area between the headrests like most stock mirrors do.
When I replaced it with a LGT, I got a ~425mm (tbh I can't remember if it was actually a Broadway or not, or if that's even the correct size) convex mirror which was very impressive. That puppy let me see both B-pillars, so I had a great view out the back. The convex doesn't really distort things too much (it's not like a funhouse mirror or anything like that), but it does make cars appear smaller (and thus further away), which can take a bit of getting used to, and can be a little goofy when a car moves from your rearview mirror to your side mirror, as they will appear much larger in the flat side mirrors. But you get used to it pretty quickly. When I got the BRZ, I decided not to continue using the 425mm convex mirror. Instead, I changed my side mirrors to angle outwards in the proper SAE recommended manner. I feel that I have nearly as good coverage with the factory mirrors as I did with the humongous convex mirror. My 425mm mirror interfered with the operation of both sun visors, and it did not have any dimming capability. It didn't bother me at a time because I didn't know that I could actually pull the tab on the manual-dim mirror to dim it at night. The BRZ came with the fancy pants auto-dim compass mirror, and after a drive or two at night where the auto-dim made the drive more pleasant, I decided that I wanted to keep using the stock mirror. I can deal with the reduced FOV now that I've got the side mirrors aimed correctly so they're actually useful (I had my side mirrors aimed the 'usual' way on my LGT, and they were completely enveloped in the big rearview's FOV - I could see further to the sides with the rear view than I could with the side mirrors, making them completely useless). |
I think im going to try out the 300mm convex. I do not think i will be going with the blue tint tho as many people say it is somehwat hard to see at night with it if you have tinted windows.
