Aftermarket gauge placement

Where do you guys say is a good place in the interior to put aftermarket gauges?

The TRD 86 has them where the radio is. But I don't think some of us will take the radio out just to put gauges in.

86design 03-16-2012 04:30 AM

one of my sponsors is actually going to make a 3 gauge pod....just have to wait till he gets ahold of one so he could start working on it...

7thgear 03-16-2012 08:57 AM

i'd prefer gauges to be as inconspicuous as possible

I like the ones that kind of blend in with the center console vents

CyberFormula 03-16-2012 02:01 PM

^ me too dude

A pillar column pods look weird most of the time.
And this car doesn't have room down by the console (below the air cond. switches) for a clean look.
Steering wheel column pods look cheap.

I think the only way to get the best look is to get rid of the radio and buy an aftermarket headunit. But even then it doesn't look that clean as compared to JUST 3 gauges without the headunit.

Hmm I had this idea, either take out the radio or adapt the screen for use with a smartphone/tablet, and have your phone connect to the OBDII via bluetooth, and it'll be able to display a bunch of these parameters :D

Not sure if OBDII has oil pressure though.

SkullWorks 03-16-2012 03:05 PM

ARK MFD gauge located in the cluster so the top right corner aligns (and covers) the digital speedo it should fit without crowding the temp and gas needles

CyberFormula 03-16-2012 04:19 PM

i'm not sure the MFD has a peak/warning function...

In theory at least, it might be possible to do this with the BeSpoke. It is bluetooth and you can develop apps for it. Basically, turn the BeSpoke into a MFD that shows the readouts as gauges. This is pretty common in glass ****pits in aircraft.

it wouldn't be good for much if it didn't have peak and warning function, a quick search netted this...you don't even need to read the text the pictures will make it pretty clear...

I'd prefer a placement similar to my current setup, which are molded into the gauge cluster bezel, not in mounted pods or on the steering column:

Nice! I'll take one....what will you charge me. :D

koyv90 03-17-2012 03:03 PM

i wouldn't mind a gauge pod as long as it blended in well.
The best solution could be to just get a carputer, i believe some of them can actually show you stats?

Turbowned 03-17-2012 03:19 PM

I wonder if it can be built into the nav screen... that would be the best placement

Yeah like have "app" looking thing where it shows everything a la GT-R R35 to name an example

Godzpeed 03-18-2012 05:30 AM

Just gonna install HKS CAMP II and display it on my LCD screen
I hate after market gauges on the dash... looks too ricey, and unless you have your engine fully tuned, there are no point of having gauges

zAnSh1n 03-18-2012 08:45 PM

boost gauge ?

CyberFormula 03-19-2012 06:20 AM

there is a point in having gauges when you run full throttle on and off at the track for some time.

Not sure if OBDII has oil pressure though.

This can be done with Pioneer head units that that have AppRadion function. The DashCommand app can pull OBDII data and display it through the head unit display. Oil pressure will display as long as the cars OBD port provides it which most do.

I'm really hoping since BeSpoke and and the Subaru Aha Radio head units are said to be made by Pioneer that they will support AppRadio.

I think this is the ticket.

We already know the ECU has significant sensory functions, because of the GT5 upload confirmation, among other features. It's only a matter of time before someone creates some sort of interface/app that allows us to tap into those parameters and display on the headunit.

Unless of course you want information on what the engine is doing. Oil temp and Oil Pressure are invaluable IMO. I've pulled off track after my oil temps have hit over 315 degrees to let the car cool before, something I would not have done without that information presented to me via the gauge.

Dave-ROR 03-19-2012 10:31 AM

I actually don't want it in the HU. I like checking all of my gauges in a single glance, which requires them to all be close to each other..

any aftermarket gauges similar to your ITR gauges for sale yet? i really like the placement. straight dead center and you dont need to move your head while tracking your car. :respekt:

Always been a fan of steering wheel pods! Looks very clean and subtle
