Who likes Rush?!

Note: if you opened this thread, you are obligated to vote in the poll.

I saw @Deslock is keeping it real with the Clockwork Angels album art as his avatar, and it got me thinking: are there any other Rush fans on here?

Feel free to share any Rush-related stories and photos you may have.

They've been my favorite band since I was about 9 years old. I've seen them in Toronto, Atlanta, New Orleans, San Antonio, New Orleans (again), and San Antonio (again) in that order. I only have one tattoo, and it's a Rush tattoo. I have all their albums hanging up in chronological order in my living room.

Miniata 07-22-2013 02:28 PM

I'm a Rush fan, but I'm not fanatical about it. Liked most of their music since I started hearing it on the radio 30-35 years ago. I have 6 or 7 of their CDs in my collection, and I have seen them in concert 3 times in the last 5 years. A good friend of mine is fanatical about Rush though. He has seen them in concert more than 50 times in at least a dozen States in the last 30 years.

Anthony 07-22-2013 02:51 PM

Yes, they have some pretty extreme fans.

n2oinferno 07-22-2013 03:17 PM

They're okay.

rice_classic 07-22-2013 03:57 PM

I haven't seen it yet. Is it out in theaters where you are?

:P

Been to about a dozen shows, starting with Power Windows when I was 16 or so.

Shagaliscious 07-22-2013 06:06 PM

So apparently they took the Chester Cheetah video down. Found another one!

Rush stories

Rush played my high school, before they were famous, and before I was enrolled there.

Later on, much of their Subdivisions video was filmed in my high school, while I was enrolled.

It starred the school's drama club, with the student body as all the extras.

Unfortunately for me, I was sick that day, but my locker was in the video. :iono:

I was going to put a link to the video here, but the copyright holder of this video is not making it available to mobile users through a browser. Works on my youtube app though. So...:search:...for the curious.

One of my friends back then used to greet me as 'young Steve warrior, mean, mean pride.' Rush fans will understand.

Finally, for all the crazy Rush collectors, Canada Post just released a Rush stamp as part of a Canadian Recording Artists series:

dem00n 07-23-2013 10:46 PM

Yeah they're pretty good, released a few meh records here and there but not a bad discography.

Haha man, such bad luck. Subdivisions was the song that got me into them.

Vicious LED 07-24-2013 12:09 AM

I used to be a HUGE Rush fan when I was younger. I still listen to their albums every now and then; my uncle got me into them when I was about 11 years old. My favorite album of theirs is probably 2112...it is absolutely incredible to the ears...now that you've brought me down memory lane, I have to go listen to some Rush...

bcj 07-24-2013 12:11 AM

Meh - ish
I think you need dog like hearing powers to decipher some of the lyrics. Too squeeky.
For Canadian bands, I liked The Guess Who a bit more.

Limbaugh can eat a bag of ****'s

Anthony 07-24-2013 12:16 AM

Hahaha I've heard so many people that have said, "well, I would like them if it weren't for Geddy Lee's voice."

He can get pretty shrill, especially live. I actually love the way his voice sounds on the entire Signals album.

Deslock 08-03-2013 05:58 PM

Rush has been my favorite band since I was a kid. Anyone who hasn't yet should watch the Between the Lighted Stage documentary.

A couple dozen songs to check out on Grooveshark (representing most of their albums):
Headlong Flight
The Anarchist
Clockwork Angels
Malignant Narcissism
Far Cry
Earthshine
Driven
Leave That Thing Alone
Bravado
Mystic Rhythms
Middletown Dreams
Marathon
Analog Kid
Subdivisions
Limelight
YYZ
Red Barchetta
Tom Sawyer
Natural Science
Freewill
The Spirit of Radio
La Villa Strangiato
Xanadu
2112

TRD_86 08-03-2013 06:20 PM

My favorite rock band of all time. The greatest unique trio in rock ever :)

Starscream15 08-03-2013 06:40 PM

This reminded me of my favorite Rush cover ever. 2:50+ is epic.

I agree with this whole list as a good representation of their sound over time. The only thing I might would suggest differently to someone would be Manhattan Project instead of Middletown Dreams.

+1 for Leave That Thing Alone. I'm always showing that song to people when the topic of instrumentals comes up.

Rush Fan Stories - A book about Rush fans

@FR-STEVE @Deslock and anyone else...

If you have a good Rush story, a book is being put together compiling great fan stories from all around the world. There's a survey on the site to give a brief description of yourself and your experiences as a screening process for you to be a potential contributor to the book. The project is just taking off, so here's the opportunity to be among the first to submit, and also spread the word!

Yeah I read about this project a while ago... I have a few stories, but nothing notable enough to be published.

Yeah, I don't really think I do either. But I figured I'd fill out the survey anyway. So I did, then the author (who shall remain anonymous) emailed me and I realized I know them. I hadn't talked them in a few years, so it was quite the pleasant surprise. So I'll be promoting it extra hard now.

If you know anyone that may have something to contribute, let them know. Now that I've realized who is putting this project together, I can assure it's going to turn out awesome. The author is a very good and driven person.

Reviving the thread to add my love for Rush!

I once bought tickets for my wife's birthday as a surprise and got the dates mixed up. I was in the convenience store one morning, and the female clerk mentioned how long her day was going to be, and when I inquired why, she pulled her top off. :confused0068:
To reveal her Rush concert shirt she was going to wear to the show that night.
We did make it to the show, but I almost shat my pants thinking we had missed it.

Gunman, Charlotte? I saw them in Greenville and that time period seems about right. Can't remember.

Last time I saw them was in San Antonio, and I was sitting in almost this exact spot relative to the stage.

Rush used to be my all-time favorite band. Their older albums are awesome. It's amazing that 3 people can make so much sound.

Their instrumentals YYZ and La Villa Strangiato are epic!

Saw them in concert a bunch of times.

One band, with arguably the best bass player, the best drummer, and one of the best guitarists.

About 10-12 years ago, I developed tinitus (ringing of the ears) from racing cars and too much loud music, so I stopped listening to as much music, but at the same time, I also never got into Rush's more recent albums.

USMC 03-26-2014 12:27 PM

I call play Rush all day long. It drives my wife crazy. However, she did get us tickets to the last concert tour in South Florida. Naturally with took the 86. Heads were turning that night in the parking lot. :-) !!!!!!!
