Can I get my complimentary oil change sooner?

I'm at 5,000 miles, first dealer oil change won't be until 7,500. But I took my car for a drift practice event once, and pushed really hard on the engine. Can I get the dealership to change my oil early or do I have to wait for 7,500?

If I'm able to get it, that means the next one after this at 15,000 miles should be done at 12,500 instead, right?

I've also wore down my tires to around 50% at the event and probably have slightly messed up the alignment. It says they do tire rotation together with the first oil change. Does that include balancing and alignment?

My dealership is letting me do my oil changes at 5k/10k/15k.I just did the 5k oil change and they had no problem letting me do this. I prefer doing it every 5k. About the tires, they rotated mine and set air pressure. No balancing or alignment was ever done. I think that would be coming out of your pocket.

I did mine at 4000km. Mine sees lots of Autox and track use so I change it every 4000

bear89103 07-20-2013 06:41 PM

Yes. I did mine after my break in period at 1k miles

Wo6M 07-20-2013 06:48 PM

I was denied when they saw I didn't hit 7500...

suaveflooder 07-20-2013 06:58 PM

Most are pretty cool about letting you get it done early, but they will still only give you three.
@Wo6M, might be worth trying another dealer. Most that I've talked to don't care about miles, just how many they will give you for free.

finch1750 07-20-2013 07:00 PM

I know mine told me I had to be within 1000 miles, but try another like others have said.

Wo6M 07-20-2013 07:45 PM

I will try another as soon as I get some time off work. Hopefully next weekend.
Thanks.

I did mine at 1.5k. At first I wanted to do it at 1K but dealership refused. I called in again and said I am allowed to do my FREE oil change anytime I want according to Scion Canada and they booked me right away

campy 07-20-2013 08:13 PM

My dealer offers oil changes at every 5k miles. I got my first one done at 3k, so my next one is scheduled for 8k, then 13k, and so on.

Yup same here. I was 2000 miles shy..

pinoy_dorifto 07-21-2013 01:20 AM

Depends on the dealer, some will say yes most won't and will make you wait till you hit 7,500. Free alignment and balancing? Don't push your luck! Tire rotation is literally "tire rotation" front wheels will go to the rear, and rear wheels to the front, no free balancing or aligntment.

whataboutbob 07-21-2013 01:40 AM

I got mine early too. But as others have said, I think you only get 3 for free.

kev1360 07-25-2013 11:33 PM

I did mine at 5000 miles

whtchocla7e 07-26-2013 12:57 AM

If you have a Scion, the dealer should not only provide you with a free oil change but the full service, whatever that entails, at 7.5/15/22.5k

WolfsFang 07-26-2013 01:37 AM

I did mine at 1k miles.

kALMIGHTY 07-26-2013 02:39 AM

What is this complimentary oil change stuff about? Is this only in the USA? And you guys get 3?
That's weird. I got my car last week and both of the dealerships I went to before eventually deciding on one offered free lifetime oil and filter changes. Anyone else got that?
I wonder if I can get the oil changed after my break in...

OICU812 07-26-2013 04:57 AM

USA, Canada no matter it's more dealer dependant. Best to contact your dealer, mine did mine at 6k.

Anthony 07-26-2013 09:22 AM

I'm buying a used one with ~10k miles on it. It was serviced at 7,500 miles. I didn't know new buyers got 3 oil changes. Does anyone know if I'll get the 2 more, or is it per first-time buyer and not per car?

supramkivtt2jz 07-26-2013 10:38 AM

My dealer did mine at 3500. I told them it states in the manual if the car has been driven in cold climates it is necessary to use a 3500 mile interval instead of 7500. They argued with me and told me i only get three free changes and it would be a waste to use it then. They ended up changing it for me but i did not get my tires rotated or anything else that comes with a usual service

I agree with your dealer, and so does Idemitsu, the manufacturer of the Subaru oil. :)
This is an email response to a question asking about the high levels of molybdenum in the factory fill oil.

You ask some very good questions which I will answer in “generalities”. First, just so you know where the information is coming from, Idemitsu supplies most of the OEM’s for both Factory fill and service fill. In the case of Toyota, we do not supply their service fill oil so I cannot comment on that particular formulation.

OEM's specify Moly in their factory fill formulations to increase fuel economy during the initial period. In general a factory fill formula will be more robust in the additive treatments etc. This is done for a variety of reasons which I will not go into here.

Some of the service fill formulations also contained molybdenum however, with the transition to the ILSAC GF-5 specification, most 0W-20 service fill 0W-20 formulations now do not have Moly*. That being said, you are always safest following the OEMs recommendations. All service fill OE formulas that we supply have been submitted to a full battery of tests at that respective OEM’s R&D facilities in Japan and have been approved.

*This has changed with Idemitsu's new GF-5 High Moly Mazda oil.

Not sure why anyone would want to dump the factory fill so early (especially at under 3,750 miles) and refill with a less robust oil.

If my car had only been used for putting around town, sure. but it had 4 autox events on the factory fluid. it served its purpose and i did not want it in the engine any longer

Fett4Real 07-26-2013 11:53 AM

Firestone has a lifetime alignment I would look into that...anytime you change the rideheight you can take it in and get it re aligned

ronboogieon 08-15-2013 01:10 PM

My dealer recommended me to come back at 3000 miles to change the Break in oil so ill do it when i reach that. Just bought the car and have only put 90 miles. Long way to go.

Fett4Real 08-15-2013 03:03 PM

I asked if I could change it early and was told no....

DarkSunrise 08-15-2013 04:12 PM

Change it yourself early, then get the first official service done at the 7500 mile mark. Problem solved? :iono:

Terrapin77 08-18-2013 09:07 PM

Does Toyota/Scion dealers use the Subaru black oil filters when they do an oil change? Because if they don't, the dealer didn't change mine at my last service.
