PTUNING Tuner

Hello Mid-Atlantic members,

The sales guys asked me to chime in here to introduce myself. My name is Toan and I'm the tuner and lead turbo system developer here at PTUNING.

I've helped prototype, dyno test/tune, and put into production every turbo system we've released to date. These include several versions of our Time Attack proven Scion tC systems, Scion xA, Genesis 2.0, S2000, and now the only production low-mid-mounted FR-S/BRZ turbo system.

We do in-house testing and tuning on every turbo system we develop and install and tune those that we don't make too.

Having worked extensively with the FR-S/BRZ EcuTek software, I can tell you that you definitely want to stick with a real, live, in-person dyno tune, where YOUR tuner is at the wheel, dyno controls, and tuning laptop. A remotely tweaked e-Tune using datalogs will "work", but is definitely not the same. There are a gazillion and one parameters that can and often need to be changed with the EcuTek software to get an FR-S/BRZ to run properly and make power safely. This includes startup, tip-in, cruise, full throttle acceleration, STFT/LTFT fuel trims, no DTC codes, etc. Tuning this platform perfectly is no walk in the park and in my opinion nearly impossible through e-Tuning alone. Just my 2 cents. :happy0180:

We've likely surpassed 1000+ dyno pulls tuning/testing everything from NA to 400whp water/methanol injected turbo FR-S/BRZ's. We are also one of the few tuners that have implemented the RaceROM MAF/speed density blending as well. Boost cut, MAP switching, Launch control, FFS, Rev Match, etc. can also be implemented based on the customer's needs. We have no problems installing and/or tuning any and all NA bolt-on's, SC's, or turbocharged FR-S/BRZ's. Please feel free to contact us with any installation or tuning related questions or pricing inquiries.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to meeting you guys at various meets, events, or at our shop.

Best Regards,
Toan

After I get my header I will be coming to you guys to get my car tuned. Talked with Mr. C about it in depth and he convinced me. Just curious do you guys have any experience with the flex-fuel set ups that people have been doing for our car with ECUtek? I will be getting a regular 93 tune initially but would like to go full flex fuel down the road.

Met you at the auto-x back in April, glad to see you on the forums.

Yes, I remember, the FT86 NASA autocross day. Yeah, we'll eventually look into a flex fuel option, but will likely build and test a custom E85 fuel system and components first.

Toan tuned my tC...twice

Happy customer with a permagrin each time.

Is that the dude who is usually there by the dyno, I think very short dark hair/glasses maybe a trimmed beard?

I was considering you guys but am working with a tuner in PA. I agree with the immense benefits of dyno tuning. It's typically just a little bit more than an e-tune anyways. It's well worth it.

STV3 07-18-2013 10:28 AM

I've taken two trips from NY with my friends to get their Turbo'd TC's tuned at his shop. Very nice shop and Toan is a great guy to deal with

ecko04 07-18-2013 10:56 AM

I drove from Alabama to have my tC tuned by Toan

^^ Thanks for the kind words guys. :w00t:

You're probably thinking about Justin, our lead tech. I'm actually the tall Asian dude that ran the dyno at the last Dyno Day. :D

Hi Toan!

I can account for Toan's tuning skills

Some say

When he puts on His Knock Headphones, he hears Knocks from the FujiHeavy Industries Factory

All we know is, His Name is Toan

Toan is best at what he does, excellent tuner! As a friend Ive known him for 10 years now, great guy professionally and extremely friendly! My buddy Jonni tC (05 w/ Ptuning Turbo Kit) always goes to him for tuning, nobody else has touched it except Toan!

PS Hi Toan LoL

Would love to get a quote for an innovate SC, install and tune (93 oct). I assume with adequate scheduling notice it could be a one day affair?

Please contact us on Monday and we can definitely get you a quote on installation and tuning. I'd suggest leaving the car with us for two days. This will give me time to get your tune perfected.

Bump for the only EcuTek Dyno Tuner in Town!

ptuning 08-30-2013 03:11 PM

We just finished tuning an FR-S with an AVO Turbo Kit. The AFR's on the base map were WAY too lean (possibly due to his exhaust mods). They were not even in the same zip code of where they needed to be, but that's fixed now. The ignition timing, cam timing, and injection control have been optimized as well. We've also integrated a boost cut to protect the engine from overboosting.

We'll be tuning an FA20Club Turbo Kit here in the next week or so. We also have Innovate and Vortech customers lined up for tuning as well. Don't settle for e-tunes that require you to switch between multiple fuel and timing maps to close in on a functional tune. Your tuner should be the one figuring all this out on a dyno, not you on the street. Get your car tuned live and on a dyno and you'll only need one tuned map for a given set of mods. :burnrubber:

Best Regards,
Toan

^^ Great Information

My car gets done in a few weeks. Boost controller, injectors and map sensor and letting him do his thing on the dyno. Can't wait. Funny how yours is way lean. Factory wideband can only read down to 12.17:1 and under load in boost I'm pegged at that value. Never goes leaner than that

nataku 08-30-2013 10:46 PM

Don't know what the deal was with running lean, I'm sure we'll hear something from AVO soon. It might be that they've never sold a kit to someone with a muffler delete, I have no idea...

Thought I'd share the graph you guys gave me. If you plan to post a digital copy then I can just pull the link here. The curves are looking a whole heck of a lot smoother and the car feels that way. Torque now peaks where it used to dip a bit. Things are running great.

kanundrum 08-30-2013 11:40 PM

^^ Thats a really nice Line right there, very linear! Glad the tuning worked out good! Ive been dealing with Toan for about 7 years now and Toan knows his stuff!

spitfire481 08-31-2013 12:32 AM

That's good power at 5 psi, and dyno dynamics usually read a little lower than the common dyno jet

spitfire481 09-07-2013 04:56 PM

Picked my car up from ptuning this morning. What a difference. Toan did an amazing job. car feels like a bigger engine rather then a boosted 2.0 with the avo kit. Its hard to even tell when boost comes on its so smooth. Part throttle is amazing, zero flat spots or issues. Definitely recommend these guys for dyno tuning.

Avo kit
Tanabe catless front pipe
Perrin resonated cat back
Dw 700 injectors
Omni 3 bar map
Turbosmart manual boost controller

With the 5psi avo actuator boost dropped by about 2psi from 5500 to red line. Will be doing their upgraded actuator next spring. Max boost of 10.5 psi

I can certainly look into it if there are enough interested parties.

Feels great....a bit more pick up from the butt dyno and a few nice features... but most importantly I know I'm running a safe tune.

Asphalt_FRS 01-11-2014 06:41 PM

Hi PTuning. I was also wondering if you are willing to tune with the OpenFlash Tablet?

I will be receiving mine on Monday, and would like to compare Stock vs their 'Off The Shelf' Stage 1 map. I also plan to convert to E85, but don't think I will even go FI, so I don't know if I would need a full tune, but would be nice to have an experienced eye review the data.

v1ru5 01-14-2014 02:10 PM

Vortech Supercharger - Stock Pulley
Custom cold air intake
550lb injectors
Agency power UL header
High flow single cat
Perrin 3" Catback
Visconti Flex Fuel package (With "fixed" hoses)
Green = Old Visconti 93 Octane e-tune (was terrible to drive with beyond the low number)
Red = Toan PTUNING 93 Octane
Blue = Toan PTUNING e-64 on the flex fuel meter. The tune even cold starts great :D
