Electric Exhaust Cutout = Loud as %$#@

[ame]http://youtu.be/Ch0gKSjQ2gU[/ame]

Quote:

"How it works: DMH Electric Cutouts are designed to better your cars performance and feel. The cutout works by welding into your stock or modified exhaust. They can be placed anywhere after the headers. To open the cutout you press a switch, which opens cutout, releasing your exhaust. This enables you to bypass your muffler, increasing horsepower and giving your car an extremely throaty rumble." - DMH Performance.

"no ones louder than it... don't care if it's a Mustang, Ferrari... I don't care what it is, you're the loudest thing..."

Honestly the dual exit muffler deletes sound louder/better than this in person since the sound actually projects out the back of the car instead of at the ground where this cutout likely directs the exhaust underneath the car.

Don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but let me make it clear. It wasn't me who said that. :)

Anyway here's a couple of pics from underneath the car.

It's actually pretty interesting. I've seen something like this on a WRX but it was by JDM:Password. How much was it?

jakev9041 07-16-2013 07:26 PM

$620 including install, the video isn't all that great at illustrating how loud it truly is, it isn't just mindlessly aimed at the ground either, and yes it is in fact louder than any stock vehicle I have ever encountered, period.

utekineir 07-16-2013 07:28 PM

I heard this car the other day, cold start.

It was pretty loud, basically neighbors putting flaming bags of shit on your door step as payback if you use it early or late loud.

Calum 07-16-2013 07:32 PM

Why put it right under the driver/passenger instead of just before the 90 going into the muffler? That's gonna spew a lot of heat and is gonna be very uncomfortable in the cabin. The transmission and rear diff are going to hate it to I bet.

DJCarbine 07-16-2013 07:53 PM

That almost sounds quieter than my current exhaust setup lol

campy 07-16-2013 10:34 PM

Reminds me of the Varex muffler, which is a bit more refined than this, but the same idea. Butterfly valve in the exhaust remote controlled by an electric motor. I really want one, but they don't have a kit out for the FRS. :(

JimmyMac 07-17-2013 01:53 AM

I hope you don't end up like the guy with the melted bumper...

Yeah, I have been thinking about having something made using a universal Varex... mainly for the early am and late night cold start... that first 30 seconds while the timing is at -10* and the throttle plate is open is just too loud for my taste, and is about to be even louder with a catless header. Once the idle kicks down it's fine.

FRSFirestorm 07-17-2013 09:04 AM

Generally the higher the compression of the engine the louder it is unmuffled. Cam timing (dynamic compression) also plays a factor. Being the car is static compressed at 12.5:1 it will be loud.

I had dual electric cutouts on my last ride. They are pretty cool. Beats the hell out of climbing under the car to uncap an exhaust.

Richard Cranium 07-17-2013 10:01 AM

My buddy has this on his Audi A6 2.7T - APR tuned, intercooled, meth-injection...he's got stock exhaust with the cutout after the cats though. Not nearly as loud as I would've expected, but the fucker screams down the highway.

DJCarbine 07-17-2013 10:04 AM

I dug up an old video of my 60's mustang with electric cutout....
It was filmed with a potato in the early 2000's
It is the same DMH cutout the OP has

Electric cutouts are fun

where did you put the cutout?

Anyway you can re-upload the pics?

If I find the pictures, I will re-post them. I'm not sure what happened to the previous pics I posted before.

Why not just tone down the cold start to -4 across the board and change the maf correction after start table to have rpms at a cool, easy 1400?

keithr 03-19-2015 06:13 PM

All that's old becomes new again...

In the 60's they called these "dumpers."

not sure how this setup is but I made a modified front pipe using a weld in y pipe with a cutout and turn down. All 2.5 in with he cutout just under the driver seat.**I went with cheap eBay components but I only have 200 in the setup.Attachment 104971Attachment 104972

i got mine installed. chopped out the resonator in the mid pipe and welded it in

That looks very clean. Anyway you can post a larger picture of it? I'd like to show my fabricators an example.

Thread revival, how did you wire it into the car?

bee_are_zee 07-03-2015 02:04 AM

Through the shifter boot to under the center console.

Sorry. Didn't see this until today. I should be under the car today I will try and grab some pictures. Basically poked a hole in the corner of the rubber shift boot under the leather one and ran the wire along the side of the transmission tunnel using wire sticky pads to hold it in place.

KungFuWaffle 07-11-2015 11:37 AM

Yea I called around some shops to see if they can do it, apparently it's illegal now

Lots of things are illegal you just have to have enough money for someone to do it. 👍🏻

How's the communist state of California treating you?...

sw20kosh 07-11-2015 12:41 PM

Electric cutout motors fail.

I opted for a cable driven one. Open for track days closed for street.

And yes bumper doesn't melt. Tested on track already.

Andrew025 07-11-2015 12:45 PM

Did you just weld it off the pipe going from muffler to the midpipe?

Dr. BRZ 07-11-2015 01:34 PM

So let me get this right, you paid over $600 just to change your sound?

That's the only benefit for a lot of exhaust on our cars and there is more then a few over $600.

Total cost for parts and labor was 200$

Cat backs make 0 power. Why bother buying one?

catbacks do add power, however SOUND does not. i would rather spend the $200 on items that actually benefit the car in performance, suspension, exterior, interior and etc.

The 1-5HP catback claims fall into regular dyno variance.

No they don't make any power
